I just revisited the old post since I wanted to make sure. It was silver, but they used really dim lighting + focused on the lit tubes which made it look like a dark-graphite, almost black. That was my misunderstanding :man_facepalming: . Also, TIL how to find old sales posts.

This beauty arrived yesterday. It’s actually Satin Gray - lighting from my room is making it look more purple in this pic.

Poor picture quality on this one, but it does fit in nicely with the rest of the desktop family:

(I seriously need to dust my desk)

That really is a nice looking object. Does look good there on your desk! What is your opinion of it so far?

A few first impressions:

  1. Build wise it’s as nice as any amp I’ve ever used. In terms of feel and “heft” it actually reminds me a lot of the Ferrum Oor. I like that it’s not a perfectly smooth finish. Toggle switches are fantastic (put’s the schiit switches to absolute shame). Pot is buttery smooth. Just very nice to hold and use.
  2. For size, it’s not tall (maybe 2 inches?), but wide and deep. Fit’s nice on the desk, but you do need some depth to your desk or it’ll be sticking out awkwardly.
  3. It’s hot, but not as hot as I expected.
  4. The main sonic standout for me is speed and control - everything is clearly defined, none of the instruments are blending together in fast passages. I never feel like the amp is fighting to keep up with the music. This really is obvious in higher frequencies (symbols, some strings), nothing gets blurred. In some ways this makes it feel treble emphasized, but i don’t think it really is. It’s just reproducing it so well that it’s clear and easy to pickout of the mix.

… more listening and comments to come … (I’ll put them over in the gs-x mini thread)

Well put. These are two of the 3 real stand outs of the mini yo me (thrid being the real sense of efortlesness that the low level info has). They are becomming damn fine options now that they have clme down in price from when i owned one tbh

One more GS-X mini observation this morning - I put the FiR VxV w/ iematch on it, and the speed / character of the amplifier comes through nicely. Not what I would consider a real “IEM Amp”, but with the iematch it does a solid job.

When you do more in depth I’d be really grateful if you could compare to the RNHP. For me and I reckon a fair amount of others here, that is a well known common denominator. I often feel youtube reviewers could do with more comparative reviews, everything is always in isolation to avoid upsetting sponsors/supplier. Yet it is one of the best ways to understand! This was a device I was interested in at one point too.

Oh man, that would of been a sick purple.

How are you switching between amps? Any switcher or old fashion unplug replug?

lol, yeah, I felt the same way about Towa’s not-purple Thummim

For now the setup is:
BF2 → GS-X via XLR
BF2 → RNHP via RCA
Revolution → GS-X via RCA

BF2 is sourced via RPi network streamer for playing music
Revolution is sourced via laptop USB for playing PC audio

I have mixed feelings about switches - the bother me that something is being degraded. Mostly in my head, I’m sure. But I do have RCA and XLR switch boxes in the closet that I pull out from time to time.

Telefunken really did put out some good stuff.

Let us know how you like all the varieties.

If you ever manage to run through one of those send the dull tube my way. If not for anything than those black tubes would look AMAZING in my piano black BHC.

Have you compared the G73R against a regular telefunken ecc82?

I have not. I do have sole ecc88 telefunkena but im not sure how comparable those would be given they are used in a different amp and all
