I just purchased a Matrix X-SPDIF 2. I am going to attempt to use it with my Shanling EM5 USB slot (not designed as a USB out, yet it does just that). If for some reason it doesn’t want to work, I can always bring it upstairs to my PC Rig chain (2541 > V281). Hopefully Moon Audio doesn’t take forever to ship it out (they have a bad track record of this).

how did you happen to choose this one? I’ve been cycling through the Matrix, SU6, SU2-kte, and Gustard U18 for maybe 2 months now. I’ve found very few reviews or threads where people compare the performance of these units. The Gustard appears to be the latest and greatest, the Matrix the value play, the SU2 is the oldest but perhaps highest quality, and SU6 has more flexibility.

I’ve been thinking about getting the U18 the next time it’s on sale for $450. Gustard seems to be able to do power isolation pretty well in what I’ve tried from them and that seems pretty important for a DDC. From what I’ve been able to find online, the U18 seems to be one of the best all around DDCs under $1000 for pure accuracy and it’s got a decent enough feature set like adjustable I2S settings. As much as I’d like to dump some serious money into a nicer DDC, at $450, the U18 is pretty tempting and even though I hate measurements, in a DDC I feel like there’s some value in them and the U18 is pretty impressive from that side.

Got a Lotoo PAW S1 for a good deal used because I missed that super black background of the PAW 6000. Thing is dead silent with pre-2020 Andros. Also thought it was pretty cool they added a line out mode with the latest firmware.

Matrix X-SPDIF 2 arrived. It works with my EM5 aux USB port, which is great. Also, the Pontus II sounds best through I2s. AES is a close 2nd. Already very happy with my purchase.
