Amazon do this sometimes as well. They might put something small into a large box, the reason for this is to make it fit better with everyone else’s boxes in a shipment. Kind of like Tetris. It’s cheaper for them to use a bigger box and have the package fit tightly with others instead of having to have the customer return a defective item that was broken during transit.
That’s that company, I’m not too sure if that’s what happened here or if your company just had only large boxes
I need to put my big boy pants on one of these days soon and pull out the best audiophile terms I am most knowledgeable of and write down some of my musings and experiences w/ my Decware equipment as the subject matter.
My 341.5 Rachael is back home. She has been fully serviced and upgraded w/ the best parts Decware has to offer. (I’ve owned and enjoyed this amp for 2 years now and am well familiar w/ it’s capabilities.)
I took a relatively inexpensive used amplifier and dropped some hard cash on it, bumping it up a notch in the audio realm price categories and I will flat out state I think this manufacturers products are worthwhile.
What I really appreciate about Mr. Steve Deckert is that he voices his amplifiers specifically w/ the tubes he mates them to. He is of course very active and encouraging to folks who enjoy tube rolling, he does plenty himself, BUT he works hard at voicing his amps to play w/ available tubes he ships them out with. Dollar for dollar this along w/ the fact that he ONLY sells direct, removing any further mark-up from dealers, allows his products to punch way higher in the value scale than anything else I own personally. This is my honest feedback and opinion of Decware products. I am a fanboy.
Feel free to spend much more to achieve your own personal sound goals, but I have found my personal happy value to performance niche.
This amp now has a headphone tap which I very much look forward to experiencing. Fresh new power transformer, upgraded innards, fresh mated and matched tubes, along with the addition of a second silver pair of RCA inputs for my turntable.
Decware Rachael 341.5, 6wpc SET amplifier. Happy listening to all, this is one of my personal favorites.
Yes to everything you stated. @Hazi59 I have a whole lot of old quality tubes for this and his other amp I own, but I will repeat that I like the fact that he voices them (to perform the way he wants his products to sound) with available tubes. Or at least tubes that were available up to a month or so ago…
I understand…that is a sign of a competent amp builder using quality parts when basic new production tubes can sound that good. The Quicksilver sort of is similar as it comes with JJ and Mullard New Production tubes and still sounds great even with the stock tubes.
Ive finally bought a HD600 to try. Its the new style which im not thrilled about, but still excited to finally try them and compare to the hd6xx. Been a long time coming.
So I ordered this back in 2021, but the XLR cable for my Beyerdynamic T1.2 finally arrived today, lol. I haven’t listened to the T1.2 in months, but this’ll be as good of an excuse as any to try it again and see if my opinion on it has changed at all.
No photo this time since the cable doesn’t look especially fancy and it came in a pretty non-descript white cardboard box.
I finally admitted to myself that my gear isn’t a little Topping stack that can sit under the monitor…so I bought a studio rack.
@Polygonhell recommended a rack system to me a long time ago. Against all better judgement I ignored his good advice until now. Better late than never!!
The bottom is the biggest change on the mani. (I assume the dimples are there to use the top screws for the bottom part of the case, saving some money)
The power plug also changed to an in-house branding with more power than the original wall wart supplied by xun-wine.
I read the manual, which basically says don’t touch the switches unless it sounds bad. So I’ve done that, and don’t plan to change them in the future. I’m no reviewer, mostly because I have no patience (it’s really bad these days ) but the three big takeaways people get for upgrading to the v2 version are:
More power! Bigger wall wart = more power. With the V1 I had to bump up one of the gain settings to get to a good volume. This one is louder than that out of the box. I just use a Shure cartirdge, nothing exotic.
I think it’s quieter? Could by my imagination but it sounds like less crackles are happening and if there’s a noise floor, it’s hiding under my amp’s noisefloor. Which, of course, I cannot hear from the sitting position.
It opens up more. Just felt a little larger, maybe a bit more clear. Nothing major but it’s enough to make me smile.
This is an amazing intro phono that improved itself without question. Maybe points 2 and 3 are all in my head, but point 1 is still enough to be called an improvement. We also can’t forget the additional switches which will definitely benefit others with worse or more niche cartridges. If you’re getting into vinyl for the first time, this is an absolutely safe bet. If you have the first one and feel like blowing some money cuz you’re bored, this will also do the trick:)
