It is official, no longer “Auditioning”

Not much I can say that other’s have not. It is an amazing headphone, so the decision came rather easily.

So my KZ X Crinacle CRN IEMs came in today. I bought them when they first announced because they were so cheap.

This is just an initial impression, I’ve spent barely any time with them but I just wanted to get it off my chest to see if anyone feels the same.

I’m disappointed. I know it’s a IEM less that $40 but weirdly enough I’ve heard better in this price bracket. I commend crinnacle for the tuning, I’m not blaming him for the performance. But the highs just fall apart. They’re harsh and it’s more noticeable when you turn the volume up. I feel inclined to tune them but it doesn’t seem like a frequency response problem. It seems like a driver quality problem which means you probably can’t fix it with software. And, as opposed to the Mangird Teas which were faulty, this just seems like a inherent quality issue.

Instinctually, I want to say “these are cheap and this is pretty good for cheap. You could get these as a present or use them as beater IEMs that you wouldn’t mind losing or having them stolen.” But the BLON BLO5 exists. They don’t break up, they aren’t harsh. To me the BLONs are what the CRN wanted to be as a value king.

I’ll listen more to see if it’s a mental or physical break-in thing but I’m not optimistic. Sorry guys.

Edit: I’m gonna smoke a Delta-8 joint. Goddamn, 0 for 2 on the IEM front. Christ.

@Towa planted the seed on my head during a phone call we had. I slowly became a big fan of hiby since I thoroughly enjoyed the R5 when I had it and learned to appreciate what it did for the price. Then the opportunity came up to snag the R6 2020 from my boi a @Souldriver and that was a huge game changer. I legit felt, this must be what owning a P6P is like  Then I lent it to my boi @elementze and ended up selling it to him because I had a surprise bill at the time. And here I am around a month later and I bought THE HIBY RS6 WHICH TO MY KNOWLEDGE IS A VERSION OF THE SAME DAP BUT WITH A R2R BASED DAC. And SHIIIIIIIIT I am crazy excited about it, considering that they priced it at almost double the price of the R6 2020 I reeeally expect alot from it and also that’s like double the money they basically just used on the dac too (which imo is the weaker point of the r6 2020. So far I only got a bit of time with it and also according to @M0N r2r dacs take a loooong time to go thru burn in and also have a fair bit of warm up time so I’ll leave it on and playing music all night.

For my extremely brief impressions (4-5 songs) YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. Now then I can’t say for sure that it’s because of the dac (altho I suspect it is) BUT IT’S CRAZY NATURAL SOUNDING :eyes: maybe I just falling into R2R hype tho haha. Either way I know the Verite Closed sounds a fair bit more natural on the Hiby than it did on the Liquid Plat + Bifrost (altho I guess it should since apparently now the liquid Plat is a $165 amp . Midrange in particular really stood out but I guess I should expect that from the Verite so I’ll test out his textured the bass is in it and the focal alphas later

Melz tube hole plate NOS metal base/1954 arrived for use in the MZ3. Someone on some forum raved about it and I paid way too much to get my hands on an unused pair. It still amazes me every time how these poor little boxes designed for a single use and to be thrown away have managed to survive for so long.
I love getting stuff from the Baltic countries, their use of stamps, the tape, the Cyrillic words, (it’s like Greek but not), everything about them.

Lolz! That hiby R6 rocked my world man!

Yesssir! I’m also very interested to see how this will turn out! I’ve spent approximately 2 entire hours now of pure listening with no distraction and wow! Gonna be fun to write about my experience with this dude! Already learning alot about it. And about the p6p case lol. But I remember they have like a straight up wooden p6p, now THAT is fancy

I’m surprised that those Russian Stamps don’t have a picture of Putin riding a bear with a shotgun on them.

Seriously, tho…Hiby and Cayin cases are pretty sweet. I assume they must be related somehow since Cayin uses Hiby OS and their cases appear to be a shared OEM.

Recently bought some replacement tubes for my amber 3 for future use. Also got a pair of MA4 RCA Pure Harmony interconnects with their 55% off sale. Pics when those arrive. Oh, also got some replacement tubes for my SW51+ to try out (ngl, I have been listening to my SW51+ more than my BHC as of late).

SPL Control One. Two channel in/out plus line out monitor controller. It can merge both channels or play them separately. The preamp outs can be selected separately (but not simultaneously) or muted. For mixing it has stereo/mono/reverse modes and the headphone out uses their light version of the crossfeed module that the Control and Phonitor One ranges share.

RNHP for scale…

Aesthetics are subjective but to me it seems very smart and subtle. The casing is a nice micro textured aluminium. It feels well built in the hands. Switches are satisfying.

Inputs/outputs are all TS or TRS 6.3mm jacks with channel A in and 1 out being balanced. If you feed A in with unbalanced there is a noticeable loss of gain on that channel. The jacks are very tight and will definitely not pull out accidentally! Power switch on the back.

Sound is very clear and very neutral. It has a clean, precise amount of detail both for pre and headphone outs. In terms of detail/clarity it approaches the RNHP but very definitely lacks the musicality and expressiveness of that amp. It would make for an excellent low cost studio monitor/mixing amp.

The crossfeed does add a nice spatial quality to the headphones. It is subtle and I’d think only useful up to about twelve o’clock on the dial. I think it will be excellent for listening to old mono vinyl on headphones. The headphone out is not the most powerful but for general listening purposes is quite acceptable. As I will be using this to feed my speaker amp and to listen to my PC rather than for music enjoyment this is perfect for me. As it shares components with the Phonitor One line it makes me think that the Phonitor One D would be a very nice starting point for someone looking for an analytical dac amp.

Finally, I found the exact thing that I need. One question tho, does the crossfeed only applies to the headphones out or the line out as well?
