On all the Phonitor One and Phonitor Control units the crossfeed only appliesx to the headphone out. As I understand it it uses the horizontal element of SPL’s crossfeed matrix with a fixed 30 degree “speaker” angle. I hope that’s still what you need! If it’s just the headphone aspect you are after and have no need of preamp then the Phonitor One is a bit of a bargain in the EU. You can find them easily on Thomann’s webshop.
I just wanted the crossfeed actually. I’ve been looking for a preamp that has crossfeed for movie watching with headphones. I did consider buying the amps, but I don’t really need another amp. So far I’ve been using a program to do the crossfeed, but it’s not doing a great job, just sufficient. So, I thought the Control One would be perfect.
Another amp which has excellent crossfeed are the Meier amps so I’d also give those a look, something like a corda jazz ff in that 500 ish range
Meier currently have a sale on for New Year. Corda Jazz ff is: outside EU: €300,-
inside EU: €350 so also cheaper than the SPL amps.
Have you heard other Meier amps? Being in the market for a ss amp currently, Meier may be something I should consider. Especially if one of their amps has good synergy with the BF2.
Out of curiosity, what DAC are you feeding the SPL? Interesting piece of gear for sure. I’ve seen some feedback from others saying that the Phonitor amps can sound analytical and lean at times, which is why I haven’t looked into them. They definitely make very nice looking stuff from an aesthetic standpoint.
At this point the only steps above the jazz are the concerto which is no longer produced and not that big of a jump up, and the soul which I’ve still only briefly demoed and I’m not sure you’d be all that interested in the features it has unless you used it as an all in one
Gotcha. There is a Concerto on the used market for $499…not sure if that price is good or not?
I’ve been looking at Questyle amps the past few days. I’m still very fond of the CMA400i and wish it didn’t die on me when I owned it back in the day.
At the moment from several sources but settling on:
From PC via Soncoz LA-QXD1
Music from a Geshelli JNOG v1
I’ve also tried it with the dac feed from an Audio-GD R2R 11 but it definitely sounds better to me with the dryer opamp sound of the Geshelli AKM chip. The bass is faster, more pleasing. With the Audio-GD you really notice the sloppy, muddy bass that while fun on that unit as a stand alone is annoying via the Control One.
It doesn’t sound lean when I listen with the Focal Elegia. In fact I am testing this as I write and this is the first time I’ve tried this pairing. It’s really nice. Bass goes deep but is not exaggerated. Mids are detailled, treble is strong but not sibilant.
Sennheiser 660s is airier with nice bass extension. Less bass than useual but certainly not lacking at all. It makes them feel a touch more balanced even. The crossfeed is fantastic on these, it gives them much more soundstage and a sense of space.
With the ATH MSR7b it’s much leaner and less interesting. Crossfeed is barely noticeable. Hifiman HE400i is muddy and dull sounding. Crossfeed makes it even more so. Fostex T50RP with Mayflower mod is lean and quiet. Crossfeed seems to do little.
For speakers it is going to an Emotiva Bas-X A-100 with Dali speakers. It sounds full and with good extension. Lots of body to the sound.
So I’d say that it is very headphone dependant. Some seem to really pair well and others not at all. As a quick impression I feel like those with better detail and general sound quality fair much much better.
Interestingly one of the things I discovered reading through the manual on my Weiss 502 DAC is that is has a feature that is, well, the opposite of crossfeed. You can in the insanely immense DSP functionality of the DAC, program the left and right channel when listening to speakers to have your right ear only hear the right speaker and your left ear only hear your left speaker. Effectively creating a headphone like experience when listening to speakers.
I will try that out eventually.
Ok, so that is a good thing for sure. Maybe you have a very nice synergy going with the dac and amp, which is awesome. Happy you’re enjoying it.
The crossfeed is definitely an interesting feature for an amp in that price range.
Thank you! I think you are right.
Don’t get me wriong, it definitely still sounds analytical, but I mean that as a positive thing. I sometimes find the RNHP less satisfying for orchestral music. It sounds good, (great even!) but so complex and musical, so very detailed. Too much going on for me to really relax with. An analytical sound, that lack of extra spark and swing gives me the chance to let the music wash over me without overwhelming me. I find with orchestral music that I hear something closer to my live experiences of such music.
Getting very tangental to new audio gear here though so I shall stop!
LOOOOOOVE my CMA800R. Haven’t looked at another amp for a second since I got it in.
Hello,
Buy this Csf Thomson 6080 Tube for the Euforia comes today from England.
Great value and nice Tube with Linlai pairing on it after the Vcaps TFTF mod on the 6SN7 socket.
Just got my Blue Jeans RCA cables to connect to my DAC in anticipation of my Forte IVs (coming next Monday). Thought I’d see if it sounded better than the whatever cables I had before (Monoproce I think).
… I can hear it man. I can hear the difference. It’s cleaner. The blacks are inkier, the instrumental separation is greater. It took less than one song to hear it… I guess I’m a believer now
Welcome

Just purchased a Luxman P-1u Headphone Amp for a very good price. I am super excited to hear this amp.
Looks gorgeous.
It does appear to be on excellent condition. I always liked the simplistic design of Luxman gear.
I didn’t realize Lucian made a headphone amp. I associate them with quality 2.0 gear. I bet it’ll be great!!
