What have you purchased recently?

Got myself some acoustic foams to improve acoustics for the new speakers, being a headphones guy i must say the whole speakers thing is starting to really grow on me!

It’s also way easier to masturbate while watching pron when you’re not wearing headphones.

That’s awesome! When I sold mine, it sat for a month without any offers. Maybe selling mine made people realize they don’t come up often, and it’s an immediate must-buy! After I sold it, multiple users reached out, saying they would have paid more.

LOL, what?!

Aegis time!
This is a DIY version with a custom higher end chassis pre built and sold on head-fi a few weeks ago. Made a quick stop with a friend and is now mine for the time being

thanks, it was actually my friend that bought it but decided he’s not keeping it (he daily drives 465 with Susvara Unveiled) so I got it to see what’s all the noise about.

I know you’ve heard much higher end amps, but I have been incredibly satisfied with my Aegis. I got the ZMF version, and between tube rolling and the different output impedances, this thing has been wonderful with all my headphones.

I just rolled in a 1955 metal-base GZ34 last night and am trying to see if this thing was worth the hype/expense. It seems to be a very competent rectifier and will likely last a lifetime. On the other hand, I have a nice stash of WWII-era RCA JAN 5R4GY’s with the dark brown bases and double-D getters, and they sound just as good, though slightly more tubey with longer decay.

I look forward to seeing what you think of the Aegis!

Sounds like you’ve tested that assertion for yourself!

Danacable Nirvana with adapters for everything, I believed in cables, but this much of a transformation I didn’t expect. Wow.

OOOOO. Did you have a Dana before?

No first time, I only tried moon silver dragon and norn skollvar v2 (his copper silver cable).

Also i have affinity adapters (ebay) and dhc adapters and i like the affinities more (they are more compact)

The dana in the utopia was the biggest change i heard in a cable. Absolutely lovely.

A very kind SA member sold me his Utopia. I haven’t had a chance to plug it in yet, busy day, but I’m looking forward to getting some head time tomorrow. I kind of need to listen soon as my WA22 is sold and will be leaving me - I’ll be temporarily ampless! Seems particularly cruel. What have I done :joy:

What amp are you getting to replace the WA22?

Hope you enjoy the Utopia!

Well, I started a deal with someone on Head-Fi for a Cavalli Liquid Carbon v1 a few weeks ago, before I knew I was getting a Utopia. I didn’t figure it to be my primary amp, just a little back-up. It’s taken a while but I think the fella is going to post it soon.

However, for my true replacement, I had a few in mind, but two in particular are more so in the cross-hairs. I have a friend that is lending me his HifiMan Prelude in a few weeks. I believe that pairs well with Utopia. I also know of a Bliss for sale. Bliss has been on my RADAR for a while. Depending on how the audition of the Prelude goes, and what state my bank account is in a few weeks, I’ll probably go for one of those two.

I was also considering a 433, 281 and Pass HPA-1, but these are all quite uncommon in the U.K…

So not exactly audio but hobby related? I think? I mentioned as my summing up of my M3 amp project that what really hampered me in building the chassis was the limits of my tool quality. So I decided to do something about that. I’ve been increasingly interested in working with wood - both making useful things and sculpture - and as a first step to making everything practical easier I spent the summer building myself this from scratch:

… which was an enormously fun, challenging and rich learning experience. I only seriously injured myself once and learnt many, many lessons.

As well as a decent, sturdy workspace I was also lacking some tools. The main thing I lacked was a way of making accurate, repeating dill holes in metal. Hugely hard to do by hand even with the manual drill jigs you can find. This week I happened across this half price:

Which given the usual price of four hundred euros made it not only affordable for me but an absolute steal!

Apart from being a step up in quality to mid range - with all the advantages in build and vibration dampening that brings - it also has a variable speed control rather than manual belt swapping.

Now my RCA sockets can actually be in line and not stare at me from behind my DIY builds.

OMG…

can making your own loudspeaker be far behind? I vote for a full range single driver Voigt speaker design!

Congratulations!
