That one is really something, amazing! Nice work Casey! I need to go look at what you have these days, even though I shouldn’t.

What variety of burl is that? I can’t quite tell if it’s maple, boxelder, or ???

Thanks guys! That one is maple burl. I’ve been doing a lot with maple burl lately since dyed stands seem to be the hit thing now. I still have a large stash of walnut burl as well but it’s back burned for now. I’d really like to find more boxelder burl to work with as well. It’s great to use.

I will do that. What’s the best place to post pics of them? I have been making a lot lately and I don’t want you guys to feel like I’m spamming the site with stand photos.

Fwiw, the finished product is awesome. Id like a little more height udealy cause i have dumb long adaptors (litteraly dont own a stand tall enough for them), but i will give it a 100% customer gaurentee to make your next listening session epic :ok_hand:

Funnily enough, I had the same problem with my Utopia 2022 and long adapters, so I asked @oberon if he could make me an extra tall stand.

There’s something about the color and shapes that makes me think of the ocean depths.

Thanks @Thibf for selling me your Olive Wood Atrium Closed Back! I appreciate it!

After going months without my ATH-L3000, I realized I actually really liked having a closed back for isolation and minimal noise leak.

I regret selling the ATH-L3000 as that is one of my favorite headphones ever. I tried the Atrium Closed both at Canjam Chicago and at the last NC Schiit meet on the Schiit Folkvangr and didn’t like the Stock Atrium Closed when comparing it to my ATH-L3000. I saw some people said that the LTD Atrium Closed have a faster bass response, more clarity in the mids, and a “closer” presentation. That description reminds me of the ATH-L3000, so I thought I would give the Atrium closed another shot, but with the LTD version.

Spent some time on some tracks from CloZee on the Microworlds album and some vocal tracks. It’s not like the ATH-L3000 as I hoped for, but this headphone is still enjoyable nevertheless. It’s also on the Schiit Midgard, so there is that.

The main reason I really bought this is to play that new Elden Ring DLC (which comes out this Friday)! If you want to talk about gaming headphone, this headphone is pretty badass for gaming! I’m not much of a gamer and this is overkill for gaming, but I like it.

I’m looking forward in trying this headphone on my 45 tube pre to Allnic HPA-5000xl amp to see what this headphone can really do!

I had both the LTD Olive and the stock Cherry Atrium Closed on loan when it first launched and while I would never call the AC a fast headphone, the lower reverb of the olive does make it appear to be faster (less slow?) than a softer wood like cherry. And switching from leather to suede pads makes it a bit more linear, but still with a bass emphasis, so olive & suede pads were my favorite combo. So much so that I ended up buying a stabilized AC, which Zach told me would sound very similar to the Olive.

The Atrium Closed was a bit of a chameleon for me, as it sounded different on different amps. On my LTA UL+, it had too much bass for my taste with the leather pads, but on a ZMF Decware OTL, the bass was just right with the same pads. When I tried it on my Ampsandsound Nautilus, it sounded different on different taps. It took some effort, but I was always able to get it to sound the way I wanted.

Which suede pads were your favorite? I think I want to try some. I got some ZMF pads stash. I think I still have the Caldera Thin pads, ZMF universal pads, Auteurs leather pads, and I have a Verite pads if I remember where I stored it at.

The one I use was just called Caldera Suede - I’m guessing it’s the “top and side perf”.

I have to try the new “top perf only”, which must be the Goldilocks pads that Zach was working on, to try to find a middle ground between the Caldera Thin Lambskin and Caldera Suede.

Happy Big Audio Thursday! It looks like everyone got a little something today

For me, my Cryotone 5U4G tube and ZMF Caldera/Bokeh Suede pads came in today!

Cryotone 5U4G-WC:

That’s going to be a fun weekend to test out ^^^

For now… I want to test out the Caldera Suede pads and Bokeh Suede pads for my Atrium Closed!

I’m not feeling it with the Caldera thin pads tbh on the Atrium Closed. I tried the BE2 suede pads and mids were more to my liking. So I FedEx overnight both the Caldera Suede pads and the Bokeh Suede pads (aka the Caldera Suede Top Perf only pads). I email the ZMF Team to see if they have the Caldera Suede Top Perf only pad and the ZMF team told me this,

Apologies for any confusion on this. We are in the process of transitioning our “Bokeh” earpads to the name “Caldera” since these are just another iteration of the Caldera pad.

The Caldera Suede (Top Perf Only) earpad that you can find in the Atrium Closed drop down menu was originally called the Bokeh pad. You can find them on the Bokeh section of our website under the name Bokeh (Suede Top Perf) here: BOKEH Pads – ZMF Headphones

We will have the updated earpad names up on the website shortly!

I wanted the Suede pads because when I shared the Atrium closed, to make sure it wasn’t just my ears, I got other people feedback and it was mix feelings for this headphone. When I got home that same night and decided to try the BE2 suede pads and I felt the magic. I wanted to get proper suede pads for the Atrium Closed and go back for a round 2 on people opinions. First I got to get my opinion, so I’m going to drown the night away listening to which pads I want my peers to test out for a round 2. They are mostly Jazz and Pink Floyd listeners, so I got to make sure the headphone will be perfect for those tracks.

^Its label Protein, but it’s actually suede.
