Yeah, but I was kinda crazy back then when I sold it. I think I almost sold my entire audio equipment to upgrade to the Allnic HPA-10000. I started missing the sound of 45s, so I hooked up the Supratek back to my audio system and fell in love with it again. Closed up shop, but unfortunately already sold my ATH-L3000 since that headphone sold within the first hour. I think I was around $3000 left to actually buy the unit since I got a good deal and a good price for trade in for the HPA-5000XL, so I only needed to sell the Supratek. But I made a rookie mistake of listening to the equipment I was going to sell, can’t get high on your own supply… I say I made the right choice because UX-245 sounds so amazing to me. It’s a legendary tube in its own right as the ATH-L3000 is a legendary closed-back in its own right. With all the stuff I did sell along with the ATH-L3000, it lead me to the purchase of my favorite audio equipment of all time, the Mon Acoustic Platimon and I got leftover cash for the bass frame on the Mysphere 3.2 and I used the rest of the funding on VIP Tickets and trip funds for the Ado Concert at Chicago which I will never forget. Everything worked out, so it’s a fair trade.
If you do get the Atrium Closed, just get the Caldera Suede pad. It opens up the sound of the headphone and you still get bass when the music calls for bass. I think both the Caldera Suede (Top Perf Only) and Caldera lambskin thin pads adds too much db to the bass for my taste to the point where I think it hurts the overall sound to me.
Thanks @PaisleyUnderground for telling me about the Caldera Suede, it really tuned the Atrium Closed to my liking!
Yep, I will post my impression in the Supratek thread to see if it gets along with the current set of tubes. I’m hoping the advertising on the box isn’t just marketing and its the real deal…
I’m also an Atrium Closed owner, and I definitely prefer the Caldera Suede pads. I too found the bass a little overwhelming with the stock Caldera Lambskin Thins. I’ve heard some good things from folks that have tried the Caldera Closed pads on their AC’s. One guy said the Hybrid Caldera pads (with top perforation only) that come stock on the CC are a good match with his AC. He said the bass quantity wasn’t much higher than the Caldera Suedes, but the bass impact was increased. Sounds like a winner to me.
Ended up going for a bit of a mid-to setup for my comeback! Down the line I’ll jump back into the crazy high end stuff again lol, but felt it would be nice to test out these things for now
The questyle interested me since it’s their new flagship portable amp/dac. Having tried @j.fopps amazing dingle dac from questyle this interested me! Plus I’ll b able to hook it up to my tablet and use UAPP which is absolutely my favorite music player layout so I need android in my life.
The Grado on the other hand inteested me since it seems like it will pair well with warm sources and I just expect good things from it lol. I have a feeling it will be absolutely nice! I almost got the Hemp again, but decided I’d try out something new instead.
Ill have to try them both, but I think the lambskin thin pads will be better for me, because I like frontal, upper mids boost and a bit of bass.
Maybe the suedes treble could detour me from using thin lambskin
The bass was overwhelming in a loss some treble in the way for more bass?
Im a grado collectionist, I love grado and they go sl good with portable sources, I myself just got a questyle cma15i every grado line has something to offer
yoooooooooooooo u will see how im doing once the new shit arrives. it’s gonna be exciting. cancelled that order and in my new setup, im actually gonna have a new audio player lol so ill let u know how it is!
and thanks bro ive been doing good, i joined the academy for corrections at the end of last year and finally saved up enough money for an audio system. besides that ive been doing that adulting life (except adultery) and have been paying the house (our family house) and my car every month in addition to still spending on books etc lol. nowadays i spend alot on protein supplements etc since ive been hitting the gym pretty hard lol. life is good, i def cant complain.
its my day off today, so im probs gonna spend all day going through these threads to see whats up with ur audio gear nowadays! quite curious
Pairs well with my HEkse; smoothes out the odd bit of hot treble when I’ve got Rage Against the Machine cranked Haven’t AB’d my old copper cable to discern the differences, but the treble was immediately noticeable.
I think they were released January or something this year, but point is apparently they are seemingly siblings of the Andromedas. I don’t remember where I read it but supposedly they have better mids and a bassier sound signature, hence why I got interested in em lol
I’m quite interested in trying them out, but Astell&Kern is cheap af, they sent the CA1000 without even a little bit of charge so I’m charging it rn lol. Gonna give it and hour then try to use it a bit haha
I was listening to that piece on the radio while driving yesterday and thought to myself that I should look into various recordings as I hadn’t heard it in some time, is that a particularly well regarded one?
