I feel guilt. Definitely contributed to the hysteria, but at least didn’t buy/horde/flip like some of them.
The same people that horded TP during Covid.
This. A new WBF post about a tube makes that tube price jump a few hundred.
Bastards! So this is why I can’t find back up options without dishing out $660+ for good tested matched pair
Lampi owners with spare C3G, hit me up when the new tube roll is suggested please
This is the third time I’ve purchased this amp. When I had my HE-500, IMO it needed more stage and better imaging/separation, so I sold my iHA-6 for a Kinki THR-1.
I’m now saving for an MJ3 and as my HEkse doesn’t need any help with staging or imagining, I bought this amp once more just to hold me over, and I’m bloody enjoying it! The increased macrodynamics are quite welcome (over the Kinki and Burson I had recently).
I’ve bought the iHA-6 twice myself. I now have an MJ3, but the iHA-6 isn’t going anywhere. I use it when I don’t want to wait for my MJ3 or SW51+ to warm up. I also use it for long burn-in sessions. It’s a great amp that is perfectly capable for 99% of headphones out there.
Nice! Yes, although I have said to the missus that I’m simplifying/reducing my gear, I don’t think it’d be sensible to sell the Cayin AGAIN…
How do the dynamics and staging of the MJ3 compare to the iHA-6?
When going back and forth between them, the most noticeable difference is the extra resolution of the MJ3. They are both very dynamic and stage well. The MJ3 probably stages a bit better, but I’m splitting hairs. I’ll also say the MJ3 is a bit smoother sounding. I feel like I unintentionally listen at a louder volume with the MJ3 as a result. It’s a bit of a magic trick that it is so smooth while also resolving low-level detail so well.
Omg it looks so much like your og auteur, and the sound should be fantastic
Grats
Omg lets see some potential improvements on the yamamoto
Negative, @MacDLaw I just wanted some spare 717A’s on hand. I purchased the same exact Western Electric’s I already have. They are old tubes, I simply did not want to get stuck years down the road without spares. (time flies by and old tubes get harder to find as the years pass us by…) The amplifier is a keeper and I try to plan for the long term when possible.
Thanks for clarifying, reasonable and also a good idea. Also tube prices going up.
Shanqiu Mini UPS Battery Backup Uninterruptible Power Supply for Router, Modem, Security Camera, Input DC or USB Output USB 5V DC 5V 9V 12V 3A (74Wh)
Wanted to pass this on in case anyone is interested. I’ve been using one of these to power and have some safeguard for my networking gear in my DEMARC closet. I’m powering the Verizon fiber endpoint (as a back up power supply) my MoCA Ethernet adaptor and my Netgear Mesh Router all from this little unit.
It takes AC 12v wall wart input but outputs at a variety of voltages/amperage ratings for the various components in my closet. Since they don’t draw a lot of power (less than 3 amps or so total) this has turned out to be a good way to regulate protect the networking gear and give me a few minutes of battery backup in case of a power outage. Inexpensive, well built and should last a while as the
I have something similar made by Eaton (which has only been sent in once for RMA so far…).
You don’t happen to know of something like this that outputs 48V?
A box from Zynsonix has arrived, gonna give it some time to acclimate from being in the cold before opening. My dog is excited to see what’s inside too lol.
Starting the year off right by finally grabbing a fresh set of KSC75’s and a KPH40 for the headband. First time hearing the latter as well. They sound fine but not better than the others.
That’s too funny, I thought my dog was the only one who sniffed packages hoping there were treats or toys for him
Head-Fi your one stop source for headphone chit chat & used Eames furniture. lol
While waiting to open it my dog gave it a few more sniffs for good luck lol.
The wait was hard but after about 8 hours I ripped everything open…
A nice blue canvas headphone bag was included too, thanks Bryan!
Moving on to the pictures of the unit itself…
That last picture really puts into perspective just how massive this thing is when compared to my old one lol. I’m currently using a monolith component stand as a temporary solution until I get a better av stand for the front of my room.
Speaking of nice chairs @orrman, I also got a new chair (the converter was sitting on it while I moved things around lol), it’s an electric recliner with cup holders and arm rest storage. It has been a great upgrade from the poang I’ve been using, and I’ve been able to 3D print a few adapters for the cup holders. I am a bit tall for it so I may upgrade to a Valencia Tuscany at some point, but for now the chair is great. Nice to be able to put my feet up while I’m listening to music (or working lol).
Haven’t taken the time to A/B between the two converters yet, but so far the giant one sounds good. And hey, now I can use all 350 Watts the Tyrs can output while still having an additional 350 Watts of headroom that the converter can support lmao. Maybe it’s time I find some super inefficient speakers/headphones to put the converter and the Tyrs to the test haha.
