My Canadian tube guy managed to find me some spares for the Yamamoto amp i swear i did not think these were going to be such a big deal to get hands on
You have a sickness!!
Not as cool as Nick’s pick up but I wanted a bit more cushion for the top of my head at times with the 800S.
I told you, and i was serious, you MUST buy tubes today because tomorrow they will not be availble. What good is a tube amp w/ no spare tubes? Like a gun w/ no bullets…
I’m gonna start to play w/ Class A amps again next, I’m tired of tube searches and the cost. I need to figure out if my Sugden is ever coming back…i miss that amp. Class A goodness
Ohhhh what is that, who makes it, link please…
It was just on sale the other day when I picked it up.

That leather looks good like it was an OEM headband.
Have you seen the ZMF Crescent Snap? It would be perfect for that. They even show an HD800 on the product page.
I’m a whore for leather products especially on/for equipment i almost never use…
NickMimi, keeping new things newer than new…
I use it on my HD800s and love it, I can wear it all day now
How was the Sugden, Nick? I have heard good things about Sugden with O/96 and considered getting one, especially as it comes with a remote and no tubes lol, plus it’s not so expensive like the damn Shindos
I have been seriously considering certain solid state amplifiers again.
Nelson Pass pieces are at the top of my list because i enjoy an amplifier with character and he has various pieces i can see myself really enjoying, especially when used as Mono-blocks. Think about that
I happen to like my Sugden very much, its the FPA-4, a previous model from their current line up. My particular amplifier was picky as to which pre-amplifier it would synergize with. If i did not pair it just right it had a tendency to sound a bit thinner and sometimes too revealing BUT when i got the combo correct the fucker was awesome, which is why I miss it. I captured some favorite combos somewhere in this forum.
Also that model worked out well for use with my 16 ohm speakers due to its design.
Sugden are not for everyone, i would audition on YOUR set-up before committing, if the synergy is there, you will agree you struck gold, if not you’re gonna curse me
Consider the Nelson Pass units too, I’m just now really starting to look into some class A seriously, hunting for and buying tubes will make me broke i also want to move up a bit in power maybe 10-25 wpc and monoblocks, i like me some mono-blocks. No idea where i’m gonna put them but me like
Don’t feed the beast!
I have a plan to workaround this issue, which has already been implemented and in phase 2: buy more tube amps, less usage across the board
I’ve been keeping an eye out for a backup pair of UX245 Radiotrons and they are just ridiculous now.
These are great, I swear by them!
I have one on each of my Focals. They are not the most beautiful, but they are super comfortable. No more hotspots! Almost as comfy as the ZMF suspension strap setup. Highly recommended.
Good reminder. I really do need to purchase some spare tubes myself.
Tubes I need:
SW51 - EF184x2
Lampi - 12AU7x4, 5Y3
LTA - 12AT7x2, 12AU7x4, EL84x4
should still be able to get these at decent prices right?
12AU7 is a deep hole and you need 8 of them so depends on how deep you want to dive. It can get expensive fast if you want old stock fancy stuff but decent stuff can be had for not too expensive
I like this line because it’s different for everyone. I consider a $50 dollar tube not too expensive but for some reason or another the tubes I tend to wind up liking always creep up into the $125 to $175 a tube neighborhood. I’m sure that’s still cheap to some of you tube mongers though. I’m just a lightweight.
None of those are expensive with some unicorn exceptions.
EL84’s and 12AU7’s can creep up a bit
EF184’s you’ll spend as much on shipping as the tube, I ended up buying 5 Mullards, because it was the minimum amount the seller would ship. They were TV a tubes, and there are still lots of NOS a tubes around.
Tubes pricing tends to jump when demand does, I suspect Lampizator owners are pretty much entirely responsible for the huge jump in C3G prices over the last few years, and you can probably trace that back to a single forum post. But I don’t think the price change really reflects rarity, rather a willingness to pay.
