What have you purchased recently?

I mean if you want your system to be as forward as possible I’d say get a Dangerous Music Convert-2, AFAIK that is the most forward sounding DAC there is haha. Cables can only get you so far, but if forwardness is what you’re after I’d suggest a snake river boomslang if you’re using SPDIF/BNC/AES. Maybe some Shunyata V14 power cables for your digital devices (they have a C7 plug option that you could use with your 2541). idk, other people who’ve tried more cables than me can chime in.

I have been looking some time for a desk stand and I found one at Balolo; they have 2 sizes and the big one was just what I was looking for. Despite the bad light, I hope you can see it.

These are interesting. Ordered a pair as soon as I saw the announcement post just since it seemed like it might be hard to get in the future. They don’t sound amazing out of the box but not bad either, I’m just not blown away haha. I have an Empyrean II on loan so will probably be drawing some comparisons between those 2 headphones soon

Nice, I’ve always been interested in these.

It’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on the Empy 2. I’m still debating if I want to try the Diana MR.

Cool!

I was curious about them as well when I got the email, but not enough to buy. My HD 650 already gets pretty much no use

Quick thoughts on empy 2. Very comfortable but the performance for 3k is not great. I don’t like the vocal presentation, it sounds lean and pushed back. The bass is nice but the top end is a bit sharp for my tastes. It’s pretty detailed though. With tungsten at 1.5 to 2k I don’t see a reason for owning the Empyrean unless you want something comfy and easy to drive. Could see these as being a good work from home headphone.

Lol you should work for the Meze marketing team :joy:

Interesting assessment, we came to similar conclusions when I tried the same two headphones at CAF last weekend. My choice of words of course were quite a bit more to the point.

Goes to show it is not the message, but the delivery that matters. Thank you for sharing Christof!

But you said the top and bottom was cutoff, with a nice midrange. This sounds opposite? Like it’s a different headphone.

You got the first part correct, I did not say I liked the mids.
A few things you left out;

  • We also came to the same conclusion that the Tungsten would be the better play over
    Empy2.
  • Comfort was great, performance not for its price point

Seems more similar to me, than to you.

Have you heard it yet?

No but seems like the original with impressions all over the place.

When you mentioned “they chopped off the bottom and top of the frequency to focus on only mid-range. Which if one enjoyed midrange then that is great,” I thought you actually liked the midrange. So I take it the whole signature is off.

To my ears, yes it sounds off and less baanced in terms of a tonal frequency. Wheres the Tungsten had a more balanced tonal frequency, which is important to me and the Tungsten reflected this more than the Empy 2. If one is paying that much, going with a D8k variant would be the right move. I get what they are trying to do with the updated version, the end result felt like the overall sound was compressed and less vibrant.

New is not always better, it is only new.

I searched and couldn’t find any impressions on this forum. Any chance you could post some? This seems like such a cool amp and I’d love to hear your impressions.

Thanks.

I haven’t heard the Empy 2, and I probably won’t get the chance any time soon, but it sounds like it makes much more sense to grab a used Elite for less money if you want to get a high-end Meze headphone. The Elite with Angled Alcantara pads sounds very balanced from top to bottom with the best comfort I’ve experienced in a high-end headphone. The only top planar I’ve compared my Elite to is the Caldera. I felt they were equally capable headphones with personal preferences dictating why you’d like one more than the other.

As a side note, I did prefer the Elite to all the ZMF dynamics I’ve owned/demoed (Verite Closed, OG Auteur, Auteur Classic, Atrium Open, and Aeolus).

Mate you really really like heavily lush headphones and I respect that.

I know this is the purchase thread but both the fostex ltd and the walnut zmf auteur classic didnt sell to me because “CONUS ONLY”

So ill get them next year

Im upgrading all my cabling instead, and also got a ticket to see Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, LCD soundsystem, Peggy Gou and FKA twigs. Im hoping for the best concert of my life.

Oh hey, nice! I’m actually really interested to hear about the JAR600 whenever they break in and you feel like you’ve gotten some real time with them.

Impressions have improved since I first listened to them but I should probably run them for awhile along with the original 600 just so I can compare and not worry about break-in

While still with almost no time and having plenty going on and going back and forth with leaving hobby I got a green light from my wife for early Christmas. The price was right and I finally have the first headphones I was able to demo before purchasing.
Big fan of these.

I got this about a week ago, Arctic Talos v2. Titanium carbon splitter, Furutech XLR.

Materials and build quality are phenomenal, I couldn’t ask for more. By far the nicest cable I own. Plus they were a real pleasure to work with.

Thanks Dave @PaisleyUnderground, and @Rhodey too. I saw your postings on headfi as well, very helpful. :+1:
