I keep forgetting the size of the AIC. I always think shoebox when its not next to something
What do you intend to use it for?
What the purpose of the Knipex branded too and how do you use it? I’ve never seen anything like that.
The digital caliper will be used for all sorts of stuff, measuring circumference is obviously what it does. I have some home projects I can finally work on, like changing out water hoses and pipes.
For audio gear, I will occasionally build some cables or adapters and instead of guessing the size of a shield or sheathing, I can buy the appropriate size.
@dB_Cooper its an auto-stripper, smaller gauge (18-28 AWG) for internal wires. I had to do some emergency re-soldering on one of my Sonic Frontiers DACs, and my old wire stripper lost its edge so it was a good opportunity to upgrade ![]()
A good caliper comes into play more often than you would think. Cant wait to see what projects come out of it.
In the last few years there have been countless times I needed a quality caliper, ended up estimating with a makeshift tool to get an estimate. Silly not to have this tool in the box.
Back when eBay was still mostly individuals selling old crap from their attic, I bought this for a song. It’s been one of my pride and joy tools. Simply opening the case knowing I’m going to use it for something is a joy.
Sweet!
All of my family that are engineers (a few uncles in aerospace) rely on dial or vernier (mechanical) calipers because precision is an absolute requirement.
Very sweet find you have there.
This is art, such a beautiful looking tool you have there!
It weighs about 3/4 of a lbs. all stainless and the dial housing is cast aluminum. It’s funny, there are a lot of tool dweebs here apparently.
I probably own 4 or 5 sets of calipers and a couple of micrometers.
The big issue with cheaper digital calipers is they tend to randomly turn on and the battery is almost always flat when you need them. I know I curse mine every time I have to measure something, since I seem to use them exactly infrequently enough to always have to find a new battery.
I like analog ones, but the only ones I own are all imperial and I’d much rather measure in mm.
I’m not so concerned with accuracy that I need to own a decent caliper.
I just discovered the random thing. Have not used in a month or so and battery was dead. Took forever to figure out how the cover came off as instructions do not show that… I build a lot of RC vehicles and finding the right small (stupid small!) screws and or bolts is much easier with these.
I got new pads for the Susvara. Ordered the ZMF auteur hybrid solid pads and the Hifiman rings. Heard great things from people posts all over the forums from SBAF and headfi. Thought I would give these a try to see how they sound.

New silencer
Just kidding…
Part of a new woo stand. Now I have a stand for all of my headphones. Shoulda picked this up a long time ago.
Pads are still good but I figure I’d replace em once a year hits, which isn’t too far off. I’m glad they’re less expensive to replace than utopia. Also, the box it comes with is really solid lol. It even has dedicated inserts to hold the pads in place, nice touch!
Just put in a deposit for a custom Zynsonix build. While my current converter box has been doing a great job with my Tyrs, Headphones, and Klipsch speakers, I feel limited in my choices of amps/speakers in order to avoid going over the 200W threshold my current Zynsonix box can handle. I know that if I go for less efficient/lower impedance speakers and/or upgrade to a more powerful speaker amplifier I’ll constantly be worried about that 200W limit. Sure I’d probably never put 200W through my system any time soon, but I’d rather be safe than sorry with this kind of stuff. The converter box has been really nice so far since it allows me to run everything off of my power amps instead of having two separate systems for headphones and speakers.
Anyways, I reached out to Bryan today and he’s going to do a custom build for me that can handle up to 700W. Super overkill for my current system, but will definitely put me at ease when using it with more power hungry speakers and/or upgrade to more powerful amps in the future.
Here’s the rundown of the build if anyone is interested…
1.0 X 700 Watt Amp to Headphone Converter Box
Ultra premium non-inductive resistors, dual output (0dB and 12dB XLRs on front of box), Cardas CCGR billet copper posts plus second set of CCGR with premium speaker output switch, EAR feet, Kimber Hyper-pure Varistrand copper, doubled up for all binding post connections, black aluminum chassis.
