Just don’t try adjusting anything in the 2nd image
Tune in Tokyo
You mean all by itself? You didn’t even invite it over?
yup! It’s these damn Chinese DACs trying to invade my privacy by showing up unannounced! I knew I should have stayed made-in-america with an Yggy…
Just got these Tago Studio’s today. These are pretty sweet, supposedly for studio use but they manage to sound gentle and delicate!
***UPDATE: Wow, I’m enjoying these! I can recommend it to people that want a work/studio headphone that’s relaxed sounding. It’s unique in that it’s work sounding but not at the same time . It’s balanced, everything is laid out in front of you, yet it’s infused with natural and gentleness, almost encourages you to work more. It sorta sits in between work and leisure. A visual analogy would be like wearing Uniqlo to work LOL
So, the Soekris dac2541 arrived today. Couple of points:
I’ll let the combo simmer for a bit and add more opinions to the Soekris thread. If the brightness is tamed as my brain adjusts or I tinker with the filters enough, I might be in a real dilemma, lol.
*Should probably that when I use “dilemma” it’s more like having two similar stacks with slight variation. I do plan on upgrading to a higher end warmer amp (prob the Violectric V222 or something sub-5k used) to have a “smooth/warm stack”. The amp needs to be of similar dimensions, not VCR-sized.
Can’t speak to the 2541 specifically but R2R tends to want a good long time to settle in on power up. From a day to as much as three days depending on the DAC.
Unless they remove the feature on the new Soekris, I think you can fix the volume/line output level so you don’t have to worry about the volume pot.
I… I think i got a little lucky.
I kind of went down the vintage HD600 rabbit hole as the more modern one i had left me split if i should keep that or the hd6xx.
I saw an ebay post and noticed the black vs white filter. Consorting with @Littledrummerboy I took the educated roll that this one was made a bit earlier on.
Thanks to @j.fopps as well for a bit of help and contrasting notes, and getting me a solid hd600 to begin with.
I think this is where i stop looking, cool the OCD, and stay slightly jealous of those with 1st revision grail vintages.
But this should be a decently earlier pair. It needs a TON of cleaning and it must have been well loved as the pads are basically down to the plastic.
Ill throw listening comparisons in the usual thread.
That “brightness” is why I ended up going with a warmer amp with my soekris (v281). I ended up leaving a Bf2 on the Jot 2 for that reason. YMMV
Wait most importantly - Congratz!! I forgot to say that first…
And yes, you can fix the volume of the DAC - download the manual - its pretty easy to setup. Its been too long for me to attempt to tell you how, correctly.
I know I know, not another allnic cable!
Fwiw, I decided to keep the demo cables I’ve tried (aes & pc). Liked them a lot.
I decided to buy a e-reader since I’m getting back into reading books and i thought it would be fun and very useful to use one with manga since most of my manga reading is digital already.
I ended up going with a Onyx Boox Nova Air, should be here in a few days
Those look stout and well insulated.
Sweet! Looking forward to hearing how it is for you.
Not a purchase I was expecting to make but the Soncoz QXD1 I was using for PC audio out started to die bit by bit so I needed a replacement. I wanted the option of a line in as well as full compatibility with Linux - so no software. Now that all my music plays via a separate sound chain its function is less all around and very specifically about decent enough sound reproduction and low latency.
