I don’t know, the NOS mode sounded like ass to me with the new card. I wouldn’t think it would translate well to any card IMO.
So it was NASS
Purchased the new bifrost card as well. Should make for a good christmas gift for my SO : )
A few more observations from this morning after further burn-in of the Bifrost 2/64 card…
-It seems to me that extension has been inproved in the extreme sub bass and the extreme upper end of the treble (air region).
-Transients and overall speed of the DAC is much faster. This is an interesting one because the overall sound signature flavor has remained the same. Normally when things are faster in regard to time domain, you dont get the euphonic decay of the trailing edges. That isn’t the case here, so I believe whatever Jason and Mike did with the firmware update is just as important as the 2/64 hardware itself.
-The soundstage is still on the wider side overall, but it does feel slightly more intimate in comparison to the old AD BF2 card.
-The improvement over the detail in the layers of sound and the forward/backward depth is a lot more noticeable this morning after further burn-in.
-The NOS mode completely removes all of the good things I’ve said above. It turns it into an unpolished blob of sound (in comparison).
I’ve been using LC-1 interconnects for years now. Up to this point, these are the most expensive interconnects I’ve tried. I decided to take a leap of faith and buy a used set of Audio Sensibility Statement SE RCA cables to go between my Bifrost 2 and Quicksilver. I already use and like the Statement SE Silver USB cable from Audio Sensibility, so I thought I’d stick with the same brand for my first dabble with “nice” interconnects. I’m curious to see whether I’ll notice a difference.
So my Audiophile membership has been revoked for about a year and a half now. What I do have has been collecting dust as I’m rarely home to enjoy.
Yesterday, the Pixel Bud Pros came in and I’ve I reunited the family today for a photo as they all were kept in different locations for different purposes.
Buds A, Link Buds, Final ZE3000, Buds Pro.
I caved in, bought a Singxer SU-6 from reddit avexchange today… will step in between my Aries G1 and Rockna and move to I2S. Impressions later in August…
You get your psu yet?
Stuck somewhere between DHL and USPS and in an unknown location
It arrived in LA so I’m hoping it’ll be here before the weekend
This thing seems to be loved by everyone here even you with higher gear.
The Bifrost 2 > RNHP was my gateway drug into higher tier audio. For the price, that amp is stupid good.
I use the BF2/RNHP combo for all my headphones, and it’s a phenomenal one at that. While it clearly can’t power more demanding headphones properly, when it works, it WORKS. It’s a permanent addition to my collection. LCD-XC (2021) w/ Dekoni Lambskin Pads with that combo is .
Another fuck it purchase, ended up finding someone willing to sell an apl dsd mr mk2 (not SE but that’s fine I could upgrade later down the line), will have quite a chain waiting for me when I get back (well, being held by someone for me to pick up since like hell I’m letting them leave it on my porch or something lol). It does have tubes which I was trying to avoid but oh well it shouldn’t be that big of a deal
Is this in lieu of the FM amp/preamp?
EDIT: nevermind. That’s a DAC.
This arrived yesterday, new remote for the Enleum. Required a firmware upgrade and to send in the amp but I needed to do that for other reasons so might as well. Built like a tank and along the Wavedream metal remote they go very well together.
Its always interesting what you buy in that tier… Brands and companies never heard of, rightfully so. Its nice to know what gear exists.
Some headphone and music pairings just absolutely sing on the RNHP. Don’t see myself ever parting with it either. @M.J looks like you managed to pick it up closer to the old asking price, nice.
Another dac ive never heard of. Will look forard to impressions
