Kobo is great if you don’t want to be stuck in an ecosystem like any of the kindles. It’s like an iPod vs any audiophile dap. Lol
Now that I got the real thing coming in, I might as well try something fun
What about an apparently direct clone lol?
Sure it’s a mkI clone not mkIIR which I have on the way, but the mk2 is too new for it to be cloned yet. Let’s see if the ancient Chinese process of R&D (research and duplicate) truly gets anywhere close to a real one lol
I’m not even going to look inside it when I get it or even care about how it feels. If it can get anywhere the real thing in sound, it will be a success on their part in my mind. I don’t support buying clones btw, I’m just curious. It is absolutely true that a lot of what you pay for in the original product is the effort it took to design the circuit in the first place, and you can probably make it a lot cheaper without that, even the real ones don’t use that high end parts so you can’t make the super expensive component cost. But from what I know (similar to lamm) the reason it’s so good besides the effort put into designing the circuits is the very careful matching of said components and extreme attention paid to assembly, which is something I expect is going to be heavily skimped on
We’ll see lol. If it ends up being good, I might get some “matching” clone power amps as well
That sounds like fun. Lol
Looking forward to your findings.
I typically wouldn’t be interested in doing something like this, but from what I’ve been told, the clones of FM stuff can actually be good given their simplicity. And now that I can test that for myself, I have to find out
I could give a more fair chance toward clones by getting one that’s actually probably got some effort put into copying it even better, but I can’t really bring myself to buy a really expensive clone given that’s just supporting blatant theft
My also biggest concern is that it will just blow up, so I’m going to hook it up to stuff I can afford to lose first lol
I am actually really interested in your findings.
While i am not that much into clones… I am probably never going to be in the price realm of an FM authentic so, it’s, kinda, feeling, very, grey, area. As in they wouldnt of gotten my money either way.
My worry would be what mon said with getting a bad unit.
But hey, if even looks like the real deal (if you squint)
Tfw someone mentions kobo and its not mass kobo
Its one of their longest standing ancient traditions, some say it’s from BC. Before copyright.
I’ll be looking forward to impressions!
I’ve never heard of those, it looks really cool actually. I’m a bit curious now lol might be a good idea for me for books that I’m interested in but don’t necessarily feel like spending the premium for a physical copy, also it is bound to be useful for the fan translated stuff that hasn’t made its way over here yet or ever will for that matter.
Which model do you have? Any info or feedback on your experience would be cool to read. I’m gonna maybe look into this a bit more
For sure, I’ll send you a PM in a bit just to avoid clutter.
I haven’t really been buying much audio related stuff recently, mainly been relatively happy with what I currently have but I have been really into mice now so I picked up a mod for one of the g305s that I have by PMM that is based on the shape of the Finalmouse Starlight 12 Medium.
Cheaper than audio gear! BTW, that little Razer mouse bungee is the best! Highly recommended.
Yeah it’s a really nice one, had it for a few years now, although most of my mice are wireless now, I just have my za13, Skoll & EC2-C (on its way to me this week)
Thanks to @dB_Cooper 's generosity I never had a base level rca interconnect (canare, belden, mogami) to compare anything to.
I saw someone selling some BlueJeanCable LC-1s and for $20 i figured i would grab them. These are the ones sporting very low capacitance.
Nice and thick. These will be a good reference and backup pair.
Caty… I could have sent you a pair fo’free. Shame on me. But that’s a very good baseline. They’re detailed if a bit bright but I only found that out when I started changing out cables in the $150 to $300 range used pricing.
I had an old radioshack pair of rcas and those were cats scaping on a tin can bright.
And no need to send me more, i have a box still of the AQs that i am sharing with my friend. I actually had to pay fkr an interconnect for once.
I wonder how it will affect the hd600, too bright or stringent? The hd6xx, does it move it closer to the 600 maybe reveal sone technicalities? The Atrium, maybe it ruffles up that ultra smoothed nature. We will see!
Just received my Bifrost 2/64 card. Installation took 10 minutes, maybe less. SD Card update took like 30 to 45 seconds. I’m obviously going to wait for burn-in and acclimation before I offer up any observations.
Just purchased the BF2/64 card after lurking around the usual spots for impressions. I don’t think I’ll be letting go of this DAC anytime soon, so why not.
So far, I feel like the new BF2 card has more depth detail. It definitely isn’t as thick in comparison, but still on the thicker side overall. Treble sounds way more dynamic and the soundstage has a better sense of vertical shape. These are impressions after 4 hours of burn-in, so things may evolve further…
Any of you guys try the OG card but with NOS mode?
I think that is what i am going to try next.
