Thank you for mentioning this and speaking up about them. I have been on the fence over the Herbie’s for a long time and my cheap ass could not bring myself to spend the money. I will now, I needed someone like you who speaks up vocally to give them approval
It’s probably dependent on the amp or tubes.
I have some on the Pacific (or rather don’t currently) wasn’t a significant difference there.
I was in a similar thought process as you. This is why I only bought 2 dampers for the BHC…less risky if I wasn’t satisfied. Now, I want to buy 4 more for the Quicksilver, lol.
If you want to dip your toes in they have ones for guitar amps that are basically rubber / silicon rings. Theyre more common there as, well, the amp usually sits on or is integrated into the speaker cab and there is a ton more movement and vibration.
I would agree with @Polygonhell , effectiveness will depend on the tube and environment.
I have it warming now. And yeah even in person the engraving is very hard to see. It all barely fits on the lumin, the lps has its feet right on the edge so it needs to overhang a bit.
I am hoping my ears will settle down and pop soon, not great with humidity, allergies, and the a/c mixing
No, I just needed someone like Hazi to speak up, I have microphonic tube issues regularly, and tried regular O-rings I had sitting around my shop w/ no positive effect. I’m not gonna buy Herbies for all of my tubes, but enough to use them here and there, these buggers cost allot and I have allot of tube slots…
As always i still stand behind the USPS. Two packages in two days arrived 1+ day early. All basic service.
From @Veritas: Some say these were just a myth
It’s doing a splendid job already!
Plugged it into my bedside alarm clock and there is for sure noticably less time jitter, couldnt be happier!
But my plan for this weekend is to clean out the room and rearrange some plugs if i can. A lot of outlets are trapped behind a desk leading to power strip usage for a few things. Got to get one wall outlet clean for this one.
I hate when I rubber-band back into bed from the doorway. Bloody time jitter.
Mine comes today. I hope this was a worthy upgrade for both of us.
P.S. The cord feels like a weapon huh?
I love when I rubberband back into bed.
< insert rubber use in bed joke here >
Dekoni Lambskins for my LCD-XC (2021) and put simply, they’re a solid upgrade. I actually bought the perf version of the pads and that was a big mistake, but the non perfs get rid of a good chunk of that upper-mid->treble abrasiveness.
I’m also getting my hands on some digital signage, more specifically one of those ultra-wide bar monitors they use at grocery stores. I have some ideas for it that’ll look pretty sick w/ my setup, so hopefully the thing arrives in one piece.
Amperex ECC83 tubes just arrived. Very early observations are extremely favorable. I have them in the Quicksilver paired with the Admiral branded Philips Holland 6BQ5 tubes I recently bought. Very nice combo and I personally think that combo is my favorite so far…but I need more listening time to say for certain.
Sunday delivery! Technically on trial period so haven’t purchased yet…
No idea how it will compare against other AES cables but I’m hoping I’ll like it more than using the usb callisto.
Ok, so after having listened to this combo for most of the weekend and this morning, I can confirm that this is the best my QS has sounded since I have owned it. It actually sounds so good, I want to go shop for a few backup versions of both tubes.
Amperex and Philips Miniwatt tubes really seem to have some of the best full spectrum high and low end extension I’ve heard. This is was true of the 6922 Amperex PQ Gold Pin tubes on the Liquid Platinum and the Philips Miniwatt 12AU7 on my Bottlehead Crack Speedball as well.
Are those long-plate Amperex tubes from the 1950’s? I have been using early to mod-60’s short-plate Amperex 12AX7s in my Quicksilver for almost a year. They are my favorite so far. I really want to try the older long-plate version, but they’re so expensive!
According to the date stamp and codes they are from April of 1958. I was lucky to get this pair of tubes for $75 from my buddy down in Florida, whom I served in the Marine Corps with back in the day.
Here and there, he runs into a stash of tubes as he owns a vintage 2nd hand store with his father. When he does, he normally calls me and asks if I’m interested.
Let me know if he has any more at that price!
My first foray into boutique digital cables. Got one for a nice discount through TMR.
Pro tip if you haven’t already figured it out. If you see something at Audiogon posted by TMR, go to their site instead and give them a lower price offer. They’ve not rejected anything for me yet.
Lower price on their site or on audiogon? I was under the assumption it’ll be easier thorugh Audiogon because you can automatically send an offer of your choice
