Only reason I knew was because I’d had one on demo before, remember being surprised at how sparce the back was, + the high quality rca

Hey hey! Another Exogal owner, that’s super-exciting to see! (The USB input on it has like no isolation, but it should hopefully sound great from your SU-6!)

Came in a while ago but havent hooked ut up since i dont have sus until now. Prion 4 speaker adaptor

those prion4 cables are sexy af but no way I can justify spending 2K on a cable that I never heard before

Tbh i only made the jump cause pete and i made a big trade deal a while back that made the adaptor a lot easier to stomach (also note that its like 18" long anf not the 5ft of a normal HP cable which obviously helps with cost)

I’m thinking of maybe getting the short adapters and use my superconductor cable with the sus for now

Maybe you can try mine sometime. It elevated my Susvara considerably which is unfortunate because that means cables matter and more $$ to spend…

Can’t help the awe so had to share. I’m a bit simple I know.

Something on its way from Korea, SOtM and Switzerland, WEISS. What’s coming is irrelevant, the point is what a global hobby!

JAN GE 5751 tubes arrived today. So far, I really like them in the Quicksilver. The 30% less gain in the 5751 over the 12ax7 is nice as these tubes are good for low impedance dynamic drivers since they are way less noisy and less microphonic. I also have more range in the potentiometer, which is always nice.

Overall these tubes sound very linear, perhaps a tad intimate, but the tonality and timbre is extremely pleasant.

Oh hey, very nice! I’ve been periodically asking Brent Jessee about getting some RCA 5751s for my Quicksilver and they keep being out of stock. Apparently people have been panic-buying lots of tubes lately.

Is there a reason for that beyond people being people?

My understanding is that it’s related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but I don’t really know. But yeah, my correspondence has basically been:

We are currently out of stock of these tubes, sorry. Please check back with us again in 45 days or so as we have these on the buying list.

Thanks, the tubes have been flying out the door lately!

Thanks for checking in. We are still out of stock of the 7189 and the 5751 RCA tubes, sorry. We also sold out of any pairs of 6EM7 in the recent tube panic buying rush. Once again I am hopeful we may have more stock in another few months.

Huh… I thought the 6em7 weren’t all that common to begin with. Lol

A lot of modern production tubes were manufactured Russia at the old reflektor plant.
Secondarily much of the Soviet surplus tubes that became popular replacements for the getting rare NOS 12AX7’s and 6SN7’s, were funneled through the Ukraine.

But it’s mostly just people panicking, the Chinese are still making new production tubes (though there was discussion of Covid disruption there), and at the more expensive end of the market there are European manufacturers.

Nothing should practically impact NOS tube supplies, they are what they are, but there were a couple of alarmist news stories and people expected a shortage, so they panic buy, which creates the shortage they were worried about.

I didn’t technically buy these, but they will be new to me. I managed to trade my Verite Closed for a Meze Elite. I’ve always wanted to hear a TOTL-level planar, and the Elite seemed to fit my sound preferences the most from what I’ve read. It doesn’t hurt that they are often described as one of the most comfortable high-end headphones on the market. Needless to say, I’m excited to get these things on my ears!

@Hazi59 @rgdelato and any others looking for that 5751 tube. I have a few barely used from my guitar days.

I have to see how many since they have actually been in my friends shop sitting. But i thought i bought 3-4 back in the day.

Regarding panic buying, one of the places i call here and there got a 500k piece tube order they are sending to china. How you even manage that i have no clue.
