wow another great @M0N thread! gonna have to reread this over the weekendā€¦ As a 1266 Phi TC owner wondering your take on which of the 4 would be your preferred pairing as a 2nd TOTL HP if you has the TC and could pick one to pair it with?

Hmmm, it could be really any of the 3 here, but Iā€™d probably go with a mysphere or susvara, depending on the source chain you have. I think both of those fill the role of being very organic, having a potential micro focus, and focus more on the mids (because the 1266 doesnā€™t really do that)

While my personal preference would be the MySphereā€™s as a second can if the 1266 is your endgame, I think it depends a lot on what your looking for, if your in love with the Bass impact and sub bass on the 1266, it might be difficult to get past the lack of sub bass on the MySphereā€™s, and even the Susvara can feel light in this regard if the amp isnā€™t up to it.

Yes if you are after another can with something special going on in the bass, it could potentially be worthwhile looking at something like a d8kp, th900, or he6 6 screw. Although those wonā€™t be playing on the same tier (d8kp might be close level though)

@M0N Out of curiosity, how did you get your ā€œOJI Special BDI-DC44B G-Tunedā€?

The only site I know of that has an international shipping option is via worldshopping through https://www.fujiya-avic.co.jp/

unless you just bought it second-hand?

Sorry for all the questions, just curious.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks!

I have a FD8KP and can say it is amazing, also have a TH-900Mk.2, Iā€™d have to admit though that while the TH-900 has more overall Bass, the FD8KP is more controlled and doesnā€™t get washed out when a big bass note hits, whereas the TH-900 drowns out the rest of the music while doing a big Bass note.

I was originally going to pair the TC with a VC due to the focus on mids and TC mid recession. Iā€™m thinking to pair with a mid forward set is the move so a MySphere is likely the correct move for me.

Most days the Susvara does it for me hands down, but there are days when it doesnā€™t work as well for me and I want for something different. My D8000 pro does pretty well at offering something different, but it is not extremely different. Iā€™ve demoā€™d the 1266 TC in house on my own gear and it sounded so goodā€¦ it has a sirens call effect on meā€¦

I would like to pick up a 1266 TC to go with the Susvara, but I would like to hear a D8000 non-pro before I commit to that.

Try the Solitaire P if you havenā€™t and can.

Picked up the superconductor at a decent price (less than half off) and am just listening to it now with the TC. Build is impressive but the split down to the amp connector is still weird. It does sound different but hard to say what exactly.

Thought Iā€™d post some early thoughts of the superconductor cable. I have the 8 foot option with 4 pin xlr. I was using a norne drausk cable before this and before that the stock abyss cable. I hooked the cable up to the 1266 last night but it was still kind of tangled so today I weighed down the amp connector end under my old dac and laid the cable out on my floor. That let me untangle each side and connect to the headphone.

I like the overall aesthetic of the norne cable better (clear sleeving so it shows the copper) but I think the build of the superconductor is superior overall. The sleeving is soft and flexible and the connectors on the amp and headphone end are the best Iā€™ve felt. The 4 pin xlr is very heavy and a snug fit going into the amps I have so have to support the amp when I connect it. Asked another superconductor owner and this is normal for them too. The connectors on the headphone side go in very smoothly and have nice o-ring like things attached to them to denote left and right.

In terms of sound here are some initial thoughts. Iā€™ve never been a big buy a cable to change the sound person but this cable does sound different. It seems overall a touch warmer with added smoothness in the top end. Vocals seems a little more forward and bass has more bloom to it. I do like the sound but will have to go back to the norne and stock cables once Iā€™ve lived with the superconductor for a bit.

Listening to the Susvara today for the first time since I picked up the Utopia (probably 3 weeks or so).
It really is a headphone that never ceases to impress when I come back to it.
The presentation differences with the Utopia are stark.
Taking nothing away from the Utopia here, it really is just a very different flavor.

I posted on this thread in February asking about an amp for 1266. I came away with the AIC-10 being the best choice. However since then Iā€™ve realized the sound I like is a bit different than what I posted about wanting. And I now have the Susvara and want an amp that can do 1266 and Susvara well.

When I posted in February, the Formula S and Powerman was my favorite amp for the 1266. Now however that amp is sitting unused on my desk and I much prefer the Flux Lab Acoustics Volot for all my headphones. The Formula S has more bass quantity and as a bass head and enjoyer of electronic, pop, and rap genres I was convinced that the Formula S was better just because of the larger bass quantities. But comparing to the Volot I much preferred the way that it presents sound. It throws a larger more three dimensional sound stage, treble is airy with more sparkle and extension, mids are slightly more forward in the mix, and the bass slams harder although with less rumble and quantity. I also found that feeding the Volot the balanced outputs from my Bricasti MC1 helped improve the sound further (before I was going xlr to Formula S and rca to Volot. Now I use adapters to connect the Formula S over rca).

So Iā€™m still looking for a new amp but find that I value a clearer brighter sound than the Formula S. More in line with how the Volot performs. So I donā€™t think a tube amp thatā€™s overly warm will suit my preferences. Iā€™ve been chatting with another 1266 owner who has been trying many different amps and got the WA33 Elite recently and is very happy with that for use with 1266, Susvara, and similar music tastes too. So, long story short, Iā€™m planning on picking up a WA33 at some point. Choosing between the different versions is tricky though. I think Iā€™m most interested in the JPS version Abyss sells but if I could get a good deal on the elite from a dealer than I might be able to go that direction too. I will probably end up selling my Formula S and Powerman to help fund this next purchase.

So TLDR is Iā€™m happy with the SS performance Iā€™m getting at the moment with 1266 and Susvara but still want to try a tube amp and WA33 is what Iā€™m planning on at the moment.
