Next level racks here
Good question, not entirely sure but I look at mine and donāt like it and have been browsing for a while and didnāt like what I found so far.
I want to change my entire office and get something nice to sit on when I listen and get a little further from the computerā¦ canāt decide really
I use a big tabletop for mine so I have everything in one planeā¦ ikea gerton to be exact. Then do whatever isolation to the components
I always liked the idea of being away from the computer/distractions , especially if you are a developer or work with computers 8-10 hours a day. Partially the reason for my move to 2ch and focus on analog.
I also canāt work and listen to music, especially things I like on a good headphone chain. So it was always easier for me to decouple everything from the desk.
@orrman Maybe get a chair/couch and see if moving your main gear over there works and a ālesserā chain on PC perhaps? If everything is not too heavy then a rack on casters might be an option but might not be very practical if moving between the seats everyday. Just some ideas.
I have enough room in my office to actually have both a desk and couch/chair from each side of a rack if thatās what Iāll land on but another option I was considering was two full systems (Iām missing only a second DAC for the desk system and an iPad to control Roon in a nice way to make that happen really)ā¦
This is something I hope to get done and have my wife join me once in a while so probably not in my office upstairs but having little kids and a high end speakers system doesnāt really go well together lol
When it does happen itās probably the main system (from the two systems talk a couple sentences above) thatāll move to take on the work.
One other route would to go a furniture route that specializes in analog.
I wasnāt sure if you were still interested in a custom dust cover, but here is your guy. He admittedly said his pricing is not right, but has to complete with companies who bend single pieces of acrylic and flame polish. John uses muli pieces and hand wet sands to finish. His pricing is really not where it sould be considering his craftmanship. He also designed a floating cover if you wanted to go minimial which has been copied by many companies. Iām going this route and you can see examples on his website. He recommends 5/8" for weight and durability, but you can go up to 1/4". Had a long talk with him. Crazy knowledgeable. I was gonna get multiple quotes, but he saved me several phone calls.
Iām stuck and it looks like my easiest solution would be to make a make shift shelf. Kinda like the one @Souldriver made, but much smaller in scale and quality lol. This will allow me to avoid getting a new rack.
I would need feet at least 4.5 inches tall and 10x10 inch platform. Any ideas would be helpful?
Hereās my DIY shelf (although I didnāt build itā¦ had help from someone local put it together for me).
I thought about using an 18x24 butcher blocks for the shelves if I ever redo mine.
It is pretty easy if you decide you dont want fancy chamfers and more regular legs. You can message me on the side and I can help out.
Any recommendations for a night stand organizer? I was hoping for something to keep my keys wallet. important notes, etc. I would also like a second one to fit under my shelf to hold cables and adapters better. that is best to if it was a pull out
I found this at my local Marshalls but it is a tiny bit too tall. Amazon.com
Looks great!
That looks really nice.
For many years I used Timbernation racks. They were great, but in 2022 they had an unfortunate fire, and afterwards seemed to have had a rough recovery. I ordered something from them and it took many weeks longer than they promised, and seemed to stop responding, and finally when they shipped it the dimensions were wrong. Not sure I would ever use them again at this point.
Butcherblock Acoustics, however, is amazing. Very responsive, very fairly priced. I bought two stands from them and both were delivered within maybe 7-10 days after my order.
You know Nick, this is why i keep you around. I still like those case type organizers (think of ones people use for watched or knives) but I kind of ignored I have drawers. Let me clean those out and maybe the organizer trays will be what is best. I have one shelf that is the length and perfect for cables, BUT something jammed in it and it is stuck shut.
Thanks.
I think it was polygon that has a rack from these guys, but I wanted to mimicā¦
too bad, the local builder and i had a communication problem and by the time he informed me, it was too late to move the legs to the outside. lol. It still works but I would have rather preferred the legs on the outside.
Please explain the spike set up. Did he deep sink the spike plates into each bottom? Did he insert the little thread steel thingies the spikes themselves screw into in each foot?
Which spike kit did you purchase and did you consider the material the spikes are made of?
Any form of leveling used on the bottom feet?
I need a rack for my small room that is going to need to have 5 if not 6 levels and in order to accommodate the height of my DAC in the spot I want it in will need one particularly tall shelf, 14ā which is weird.
I also want spare shelf made when Iām not in need of the extra tall shelf and the lower shelves will be shorter so that all they need to do is accommodate the gear but also help keep the overall height manageable.
This rack will sit on a carpeted floor, and I want to do what I can do that the rack itself helps minimize and isolate vibrations on each level.
A local friend will built it but I need to find the accessories, and parts I want to added and feed him dimensions
Those look so damn good! Beautiful. Love the wood grain and contrasting shelves and legs.
Yes, exactly how you described. No leveling used on the bottom feet currently, but something that can be added later.
Spike I got is - Dayton Audio - DSS2-BK Black Spike Set 4 Pcs.
Hereās him explaining the discā¦
