Stands, Storage, Organization

Personally I am a fan of the Pangea audio Vulcan or Vulcan-x racks, Super sturdy and quality built for good pricing. What’s not to like.

Thanks for your input, trying to go with a wood or wood looking shelf system. I have a few buddies who have them and love their simplicity and build for their price.

I believe @karangovil has one

That is some serious outlay of cash there, I cannot tell much about them from the tiny pictures on the web page but the concept seems reasonable. My own current issues are height clearance for many of my tube based pieces when I want to add isolation or vibration control. The height of both DAC and amps just gets well beyond 13” and most shelves seem to top off somewhere between 8” and 11” of height clearance.

Personally I want something sturdy that I can also adjust as needed and desired. :muscle:
Good luck in deciding, so much out there. At that price range maybe take a look at Fern And Roby too, they are Va locals.

I recently bought a VL-4 in Walnut that I use as a VL-3. It was pretty easy to put together, very sturdy and easy on the eyes. Each shelf’s capacity is 100lbs and the width is just the right size I think, at least for my room and setup.

The only thing I kinda dislike about it is the depth, I wish it was slightly deeper but that might not be an issue depending on your gear. My current gear actually fits fine but I needed to get a separate small rack for my turntable which is small beast in itself.

VL-3 racks are notoriously painful to source as well so that might affect your decision too.

Edit: VL-3 typically goes for around $1200 or so from a dealer. Due to a series of incidents, I ended up getting a VL-4 for the price of a VL-3.

They are wood? well actually manufactured wood, but solidly built. Just trying to throw out a suggestion.
I am so used to mine I forgot it was not real wood.

Solidsteel VL series have MDF shelves but they are quite heavy and look quite premium. I’m also getting a 2 shelf rack for my turntable from butcher block acoustics which has real wood and much higher capacity per shelf. They’re slightly more expensive and a different look.

I actually would have gone with butcher block had I not already ordered and paid for SolidSteel, although I think SolidSteel is more stylish looking (at least according to my sister who claims to have better taste than me in such matters)

Thanks for sharing your experience, and input. I didn’t notice availability being an issue with some of my initial searches, maybe it’s model specific.

Depth is something my salamander also falls short on, gear is right up to the rear with some slightly sticky out :joy:

Sorry, should have been more clear in my wood response. I don’t want black shelves, my current shelves are walnut and would like something similar in color tone.

no problem, I chose the closest thing they have to cherry as that is the color of my desk etc. They have different finishes besides black. Everyone can choose whatever they want yet another advantage to this addiction,

Ah, I have only seen them in matte black.

Amazon has them and shelves can be added or removed easily if you decide to have a look, Mine currently easily holds my tube amps (Quicksilver and Feliks echo) My Aqua La Voce DAC, Iris DDC, Roon Nucleus, a 4port switch witch as well as a passive preamp for my powered monitors. shelves hold like 85 pounds each. Really good for really little money in my mind

I’ve tried this model in faux walnut. My only gripe is that you cannot adjust the height of each shelf. They only sell the poles for a single height for this model. You can add shelves. I really need one more shelf and I’d be golden, but it would really stick out. They are sturdy and have held up well. Im not sure how isolation is on my model, but i imagine the top of the line model will be much better. Atacama might be worth checking out. Solidsteel can get pricy.

Crutchfield seems to be pretty good at stocking Solidsteel if your local dealer doesnt carry it.

Unrelated question - is that a custom turntable cover? Is yes, do you like it and mind sharing the details?

Also nice setup!

Thanks man.

It is not a custom cover. I bought the tt and cover as a package. It is the one by Clearaudio. There were some custom dust cover companies I looked into that seemed to do a better job in terms of materials and customizing sizes. As it is, i wish it were a tad bigger as a hit my tt 8/10 when lifting and lowering. That maybe a reason to go custom.

Thank you for sharing, especially the pros/cons you have experienced!

It is funny, the adjustment feature is what pissed me off yesterday as I was trying to change the height of one shelf and that led to 20 others things I needed to chanage since I was moving gear around. So a big fucking mess, got pissed and went into av rack replacement mode.

Nice rig you have!

I seem to hate all racks these days… what else is out there to get your audio gear on?
