@NickMimi does my lill one work as room treatment?
A year and half of work turning a garrage into a listening room. About 60/40 absorption/basstraps to diffusers.
Front wall and back wall are mostly massive diffuser panels. Side walls are mostly absorption. 2 large clouds on ceiling.
7 corners of the room have massive bass traps.
Listening chair is surrounded with tunned membrane bass taps. Tunning is set for 100-200 hz.
All treatment is diy.
Speakers are diy Gr reaserch NXstudios with upgraded crossovers consisting of vcap odam and duelund silver caps, mundor foil inductors, and duelund silver resistors.
3 rythmik subwoofers in a swarm.
Amps are mola mola kalugas,
Dac is holo spring 3 kte w pre. Soon to be upgraded.
Source is macbook running bacch4mac software with roon as the source.
What material did you put into those boxes/panels, out of curiosity?
Safe and sound rockwool. Depending on the pannels function, i have it in 6 to 18 inch depths
Impressive; labor of love, and a work in progress. How would you say the array behind the listening chair helps? I find it intriguing.
If by array you mean the tunned bass traps.
I set them behind around the listening chair because that was the most effective spot for them as displayed in my measuments and listening tests.
They increased the detail in the upper bass. Bass sounded an lot tighter to me and the image of bass elements was more distinct.
Frequency response was a bit more linear in the target range. Raised a null by a couple db and reduced a peaker a couple as well.
I’m paying attention to the placement of your subs, happy to see I’m not the only one who puts them where they sound good and doesn’t simply place them to match the cosmetics Great job and thank you much for posting the pictures!
I was lucky in that the best places for the subs are in the conners of the room. Might have too do with the volume of bass trapping i have.
A lot of sweat equity in that room. It looks really great!
That’s a lot of work and looks like a great listening space. Very impressive, I’m just starting to dip my toes in this room treatment space so lots to learn!
I love Sonus Apparatus system diagrams! Well done!
And every time I see your dedicated 20A feed I get power envy!
It was sheer luck as the second bedroom had a dedicated line for it’s power outlets. I only realized when I was checking what’s written on the panel against what’s actually there. I lived 21 years in my previous home and was never 100% sure what was in the home. Didn’t want to repeat that here. lol
Same! I should do a new one.
My setup now is pretty simple, but I’ve reached a point of real satisfaction with it, I enjoy it a lot.
Headphones are not pictured, but I have iMac 27 (2019) with Apple Music & Qobuz (both hi-res/lossless) feeding Yggy OG, to Nitsch DSHA-3FN and Nitsch Magni Piety. The Magni/Loki is strictly for preamp duties to some venerable Monsoon 2.1 planars. The speakers are mostly for AV sound when I watch movies/shows, and for background music working at the computer. The Marantz is for SACD playback direct to the DSHA-3 via SE inputs, and as a CD transport output to the Yggy via coax.
The headphone collection includes Utopia 2020, ZMF Verite Open, Atrium Open, Rosson RAD-0, and Clear OG. An embarrassment of nice headphones . I’m really happy with the synergies of everything overall.
That’s incredible! I’d call that the ultimate man cave, except it’s not in the basement!
I’d love to drop by and check it out, figuratively speaking. I bet it’s amazing, quite an experience. You put a lot of thought and effort into it, clearly.
Enjoy the fruits of your labors.
This happened a while ago but I never posted the updates…bare walls no more.
This really upped the game a lot. Sound is thicker and tonal density is improved quite a bit. Stage is quite 3D with good depth and roundness to it (roundness is a function of better recordings and much better on records most times but not always). Staging is pin point but it was always amazing with the Devores and treatment might have helped a bit. I feel that tube rolling impact is noticed more easily.
Very pleased overall and as tempted as I am to say I’m done, I see either a triunity or a DHT in my future.
That is one hell of a cozy space! Love all the wood tones and the diffusers in the back are perfect. Given where you’ve got the base traps and then the area behind the sofa, you’ve got a lot of best practice implementation there.
Don’t be afraid to play around with the panel locations but you’re probably more than ballpark where everything is already.
Looks F’ing amazing, and love the guitars!
I was going to post my set up as I finally re-organized and moved a bunch of stuff around. Now I’m embarrassed to after seeing how well put together your room is
Bravo man, great job and effort!
