I know it has taken time, patience and blood equity but I think you are finally hitting well beyond your monetary spend point and are enjoying quality that would otherwise have cost a much prettier penny. DIY for the gold win!
I’ve learnt so much about electronics in generally and particularly audio gear, which has just increased my hobby enjoyment too. I’m so glad I took this route, especially as originally I just wanted to learn to solder cables as a stepping stone to jewellery, totally got sidetracked on that!
so I decided my bedroom was the best for music so uh, I made due these two pics are taken from the same chair
Here’s the updated setup… kinda.
I have Tyrs now, I haven’t had much time with the Susvaras off them, but so far they sound great with my speakers (I also love that they don’t get nearly as hot as the aegirs lol). Also I am now using one of my SVS PB1000 subs behind where I sit to fill in the lower octaves of my RP600Ms.
The Equi=Core (the thing is really heavy btw) and Deep=Core power conditioners arrived as well but you may notice they aren’t hooked up in the pictures… Unfortunately as soon as I turned on the equi=core I tripped the breaker for my office lol (and that was with all of my audio equipment turned off in preparation to plug stuff into it). That breaker is currently being shared between two adjacent rooms that my wife and I use as office spaces btw. So both of our computers, lights, and all of my equipment are running off of a single 15A breaker… so it’s no wonder it got tripped lol. I tried both the deep=core and equi=core off of an outlet on a seperate breaker and both work fine, so I know it wasn’t a product issue, just a “using too much power on one breaker” issue lol.
I probably could get it to work since everything runs fine without the equi=core/deep=core installed and the equi=core only pulls around 9 watts at idle, so the equi=core is probably tripping the breaker from a short power spike when it’s turned on. But to get it to work would mean turning everything off in both rooms, turning on the equi=core/deep=core, then turning on all of my audio equipment before turning everything else back on in both rooms, at which point I’d just have to hope that the breaker doesn’t trip when my wife and I run a heavy task (or games) on one or both of our computers lol. Not a good solution.
Instead I have reached out to a couple of electricians to get quotes on having a dedicated 20A circuit outlet installed in my office. Have yet to hear back, so for now the equi=core/deep=core combo will have to wait until I have an outlet to take the load off of an already overworked 15A breaker.
That’s all from me for now. I will give impressions of Susvaras off of the Tyrs once I get some more time with them (not planning on AB testing Aegir vs Tyr due to the breaker issue lol).
Really appreciate all of you btw, Happy Listening!
Congrats on the Tyrs, I really enjoy mine. I don’t see too many pictures of people with them and I think they are a really solid amplifier for the price.
What tubes are those in the Freya? I’ve been running a serene for awhile but would be fun to roll some tubes in the Freya again.
The fluffy whale speaker dampener makes it for me.
So many awesome setups!
I’m glad everyone is enjoying their gear.
it’s a shark! there’s a difference and it affects the sound!!!
I’m using a quad matched set of Linlai Global Elite tubes. I’ve read around that the ones they sell on viva tubes are different from the ones on the Linlai’s website. But the quad set costs $450 on viva, and a quad on linlai’s website costs $610 so I took the risk lol (apparently the ones they sell on viva are a “not for export” version, so it’s essentially the same tube but who knows I could be wrong and spending $610 is the only way to know you’re definitely getting official ones). They’re a good set though, but take some time to burn in. Maybe I’ll get another set from Linlai or Grant Fidelity so I know for sure that I have the official ones and compare the difference to the ones from viva in the future. But the Linlai are imo one of the better new production 6SN7 tubes out there, they still wont beat a nice set of NOS tubes though. One of the best combos I’ve heard on the Freya+ was a pair of RCA black plate in the gain stage and GE tubes in the follower. Valvesnmore sells a few sets of well matched tubes specifically curated for the Freya+ that’ll probably give you better performance than the Linlai do. I mostly use my Freya in solid state mode anyways, but whenever I wanna add some tube flavor I’ll switch it over to tube mode.
Whale adds more space, shark gives more bite.
Linlai will voice tubes differently depending upon the intended market: tubes for their regional market will sound different than those intended for NAm to accommodate different musical preferences. Whether this applies to all their tubes I dont know. It applies to some of their 2A3’s.
Expensive for what it is (plastic grip with long soft brushes), good for dusting off mixers, synths, guitar pedals, keyboards, etc.
Your room looks very nice I love the home office space with the dvd player
Those speakers you have, what are they?
R600m plus a good sub makes a world of difference, to me its much better than the tower version r8000 I believe because of the crossover control.
I have mine setup like that powered by exogal and lemme tell you I wont feel the need to upgrade in years
Klipsch Forte IVs and Decware Tiny Radials on my desk
Version 0.2. I took the plunge and removed the tv from my room and made it a pure listening room. Stage was the first thing I noticed that got wider or rather less claustrophobic. Word is still out on bass, it feels a little more detailed but need to listen more. Overall separation is better. Still need to put hours on it.
Lovely! Where is that lamp from btw
Wonderful pups, Shepard and Retriever?
I literally have no idea at this point - it feels like I’ve had it forever lol (perhaps a roommate left it?)
Yessir, Ellie is a 6yr shepherd and Wilfred is (almost) 8 yr golden. They both enjoy blues and jazz and Wilfred tolerates metal while Ellie leaves after a song or two and stares at me from a distance lol
room treatment.
