It is the yggy+ yes but dunno how the old one sounded, but schiit says the og is the same as the old a2 just an upgradable chassis for future upgrades like the new bf2/64
You could already upgrade internals on the non-plus but it was a pain in the ass to get into.
Cool, thank you.
“Only” needed 400 hours of 24\7 burn in to let the magic out. The muddiness is in line and the glare normalized, the bite and treble is beautiful and voices have soul now. Stage opened up and I get surprised by some sounds coming out of nowhere and passing by. The higher you go with gear the more burn in you need it seems never judge before. It’s a keeper
Ha! You should have said it was new. In my experience when I had it, it took about 4 days to come into its own after being powered off for a few days!
The yggy is one of those dacs that really need time to be on, and one you just don’t turn off lol
The Yggy is somewhat renown for needing an extended warm up, not even burn in, there are people online who claim 3 weeks+ from cold.
I’m definitely one who’d agree with over three weeks warmup for the Yggy. I noticed some slight improvements here and there over the next few months afterward as well, it’s been a trip. A very enjoyable one! The Yggy got rid of any glare left in the upper mids of my LCD-24s, which blew my mind.
I like my LCD-24 best too from the setup where I have the Yggy doing DAC duty.
Amen to all that.
The only times I ever turn mine off are in a lightning storm (I try to unplug everything), and when I’m in a major heat wave (no a/c in my listening space)
Me too! Even with my Bifrost, etc. Took a while to finally “get it.”
Lol, speaking of turning these DACs off, I got my Yggy on a Thursday and the power went out that SUNDAY, it was hilariously awful timing.
Are you a time traveler? lol
I mean, it was just a matter of time before it happened lol
Thanks for including the Urd in this thread @Polygonhell, I’ll post impressions once it arrives in a week or two.
I’m also interested in why you picked it up.
I think understanding why people go with a transport over say just ripping CD’s is an interesting discussion as well.
I still have a bunch of CDs and have been interested in trying a CD transport for a long time. The Schiit Urd is affordable compared to other transports and has a lot of flexibility with inputs and outputs. It might just turn into a fun experiment or maybe I’ll end up preferring CDs to streaming / local file playback through Roon.
Also I think this will let me do PC into urd, usb out to pc headphone amp, and aes out to my main system. Will be a nice way to integrate cds and my gaming pc with some isolation (I think) to avoid noise from the pc. If I can combine my PC into my audio system without introducing noise that would be awesome but if not I’ll leave the Urd just in my main system.
Given they have the DDC in there, I’m somewhat surprised they didn’t just throw an Ethernet PHY in there and call it a transport/streamer. Though I suspect while the bulk of the hardware to do it is already in the Box, software might have been a significant issue.
I am curious if someone will eventually compare this with the community favorite, Jay’s Audio. Different price points though.
Had the exact same thought. I think the target audience is for people with Tablet or laptop as their source as more and more and more people are just doing that and calling it a day.
