Riviera thread, AIC / AFC / APL / AFM / Levante

We’ll that’s good, at least. Shipping damage (as opposed to lost in shipping) is harder to make a claim with the shippers. Warranties are a good thing!! Bummer to buy a new car only for it to spend it’s first weeks in the shop, though. :disappointed_relieved:

We’re a long way from Aeolus’s and Tuba’s, huh?

Well thats extrenelt good. When i was looking at a demo unit they told me no warrenty. Thats ultimately why i didnt hiy it tbh. Different dealer though so that may well be the reason

Does anyone have a favorite speaker they pair with the AIC?

I’m using a set of falcon ls3/5a in nearfield which to me sound good but they were bought specifically for a prior amplifier and may not be ideal here.

Thankyou

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately I don’t have experience with the AIC, I just wanted to welcome you.

Im sure someone will chime in soon enough, however.

Cheers.

I personally really enjoyed voxativ hagen monitors and fritz carrera be around a similar price point, but there were other solid options as well, lots of options out there, will depend on what you are after

If you find the falcon to sound good and don’t really have any qualms with the pairing, I’d probably just stick with them admittedly unless you’re specifically looking for a change in direction imo

I don’t have the AIC amp specifically but I am familiar with speakers and low power and I own the Falcons.
They are 15ohm speakers. The amp puts out 10wpc at 8ohm. Thus you are getting 5wpc @ 15 ohm roughly. In near field not bad, you will lose some dynamics at louder volume but at under 65db or so you should manage the power swings ok. The falcons slope off at about 75hz so you don’t have punishing bass pulls of power.

At 10wpc what you want in an ideal environment is a speaker rated @ 92db sensitivity or higher. There are several out there that are rated properly, the harder part is finding the correct size and price point that fits you. Performance will vary based on your personal expectations.
I wouldn’t sweat your current equipment combo too much.
Add a powered Rhythmik sub to get some better space and depth if you can manage to put it in the appropriate location.

Maybe look at the Devore baby/bookshelf O’s if you really want to spend some money.
That’s a really nice amp and the falcons are really nice speakers. Just not necessarily the best combo. At 15wpc into 16ohm you would do them justice. Just remember at 8ohm you half the power output of your amp.

Honestly, I don’t believe that 10wpc rating, both looking in it and hearing what it can power, I’m inclined to believe it’s more than double that. I’m guessing that’s a very conservative rating. I’ve not tried the falcons on it though so can’t say for sure how well it may drive them

If that is the case, and the amp is under rated, more reason to leave the combo alone. Personally for desktop use at moderate to low volume I would not find that combo bad at all. Both pieces are quality.
That’s me though, and taste is subjective.

He’s also talking nearfield use which even at the rated sensitivity power should be plenty.

@127b is your question out of curiosity about what is better or do you want to go in a different direction signature wise?

The list below is a relatively inexpensive list of suitable monitors that @M0N shared not long ago that would be likely be good desktop and cheap enough to try or find used to give you ideas about alternate signatures.

BMR Philharmonitor
Goldenear BRX
SVS Ultra Bookshelf
Klipsch RP600M
Omega Compact Alnico
Focal Chora 806
Emotiva Airmotiv B1
Polk L200

10 WPC is “what it can comfortably handle in class A” from an interview back when aic was released. Same with the 120W rating of levante

Thank you for the list.

At the moment I am not happy with the synergy with my dac into both my headphones & speakers.

Once I nail that synergy into headphones I will consider how the falcons fit.

The downside to using speakers is I’m yet to drive any of my headphones from the rear taps but it’s just too easy to lean over disconnect my headphones, flick it to speaker mode and kickback.

Speaker switchbox may be an option. But yah, I realy wish they would get rid of that resistor on the front out. It’s realy annoying tbh

Ended up going back to Riviera in the end, ditching my FM stack and have a pair of AFM50 being shipped to me, should be real sweet to have something like the AIC but hopefully better back in the house lol. Also should now hopefully have enough juice to drive the borresens if I want to use it for that

I’ve read this a while ago and of course it made me curious and envious of whoever owns gear like that.

I look forward to your impressions

I was actually going to go with the 25s, but I was able to get a pair of 50 right away at a good price, so I traded in my FM stack and hopefully that should be a decent upgrade to it (also I am still washy on the FM for if I was going to keep it or not for headphone usage) and I will assume it will work well with headphones given the aic 10 lol. Not using one of their preamps but instead was able to also secure a K15EX that I’ll be using instead

Also have a very interesting tube amp I might pick up to replace the studio t for headphone usage, but we’ll see on that one lol

:hushed::hushed: Super curious what you’ll end up with

:eyes: is that something obscure?

Working out a good price on a wavac ec300b, always wanted something wavac after hearing some of their higher end stuff, hopefully works out lol, they’re old and not brought up enough to where I can get a real solid price on one

Kinda one of those that really I’ve had my eye on a long time, and now I have a reasonable excuse to try and get one lol
