For me it was a couple hours of warm up, but otherwise not super long
Tbh ive gotten kinda use to like 90% in 30 min and 100% in an hour so i was kinda caught off gaurd by 90% after over an hour. Am i maybe just use to quicker warmup for tubes than normal?
Was it a new or barely used tube? Since that will contribute to it, new tubes might take longer to warm up sometimes. Also depends on ambient temperature to some extent. Could also just be getting used to the amp so you hear the warmup more
Yah. Its a NOS tube (or at least i wad told it was). As for temp my office is pretyy rock steady year round so shouldnt change mych
I’d probably say that’s a contributing factor then, over time it should get a bit quicker, although the tube naturally just might warm up longer compared to others regardless
Even tubes that aren’t real NOS, which short of readily available Ex Soviet tubes most tubes sold as NOS aren’t, if they’ve been sitting for a while do have a “break-in” period of a few 10’s of hours.
Interesting. Guess that makes sense (getter need time to work). Ill have to see how it changes over the next week or two
Ok, so I think my Brimar may be a bad tube (not sure how I can even check that tbh). TBH It just gave me 0 tube magic at all and detail felt fairly lacking, but most importantly it was realy realy lacking energy within the texture that even the JJ had in spades. I just threw in the G73R (and granted this is supose to be a super tube according to HF shills) but the difference is truly just night and day and its not even warmed up yet. Guess Ill have to see if anyone I know has another brimar they can lend me just to have it as a good refrence point tbh
Well that sucks that you got a bum tube, but good you got something that you like with it. Tbh I’d just stick with the tube you have in there now and call it a day if you really like it. Then again this is coming from someone who hates swapping tubes around lol
Add me to that list, there are groups of tubes that are clearly better, but generally you can end up in a never ending circle of change the tube and just like it because it’s different.
I did a bunch of rolling in my 2CH preamp when I first got it in the 90’s (and sourcing tubes was more difficult back then) the thing that finally made me swear off it was using it for a month and swapping back to a tube I’d tried earlier, at that point it became clearer to me that just changing something was enough for me to at least temporarily prefer it.
Of course I did try half a dozen 12AU7’s and probably as many El84’s in the Pendant when I had it, and I’m not running stock tubes in anything I own, so I’m not completely cured.
12AU7’s are at least not silly prices to roll.
Yep, and in the end the amp itself isn’t going to radically change, doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile to change, but you aren’t going to make an amp into something it’s not with a tube change imo
I’m not even touching the tubes in my preamp, leaving that alone lol
lol
not yet at least, but they get more expensive year after year for nice older ones and imo the new production side of things isn’t advancing fast enough for that tube type
TBH Ive been enjoying tube rolling a lot. It feels like a cheaper version fo amp rolling which I already like. Ill probably end up getting a few more weird tubes just to try given how cheap 12au7 are. I was starting to roll my LC a bit more but the “cheap” 6922s are basically the cost of this G73R…
Ultimately though I think that rolling will largely be waiting/happening between my dac hunt trials. I have demos of Weiss 502 and dave set up for tomorrow (my screaming dave deal fell though unfortunately ) and a demo of pasithea setup for 2 weekends from now. I also have been told I can get Nagra Classic, Tambaqui, and M1SE in on demo but havent sent up times yet. Then lastly I have the ability to set up a demo of the MSB Discrete and Berkeley alpha 3 but TBH that dealers really rubbed me the wrong way so I’m probably going to try and find somewhere else to hear those.
so, tbh, I am feeling that weiss 502 and blue mk2 + dave are actualy quite similar levels (which was slightly unexpected) with a very clear preference for the weiss. Dave separates better but weiss sounds way more natural and almost effortless with more natural timbre. It also feels more, idk, lithe? Im not realy sure how to put it but its like it just does what you ask it to while dave feels like it sometimes doesnt like what you are asking it to do
@bmn1251 what all does it come with tube wise?
Ey! Gz!!! Will be excited to hear yoyr inpressions!
Quick impression notes after 2 days.
Pretty much a direct upgrade to the Liquid Gold(og). Seems like an overall step up in every area.
One notable thing with how it sounds, is the attack it presents, that i wanna describe as an added “energy” throughout the sound spectrum, it’s not overdone or anything, and maybe attack isn’t the right word. The LAu was a bit more relaxed in that way, but still had that energy in the low end. The AIC10 still retains a smoothness to it, but with that added energy…not really sure how else to put that lol.
The AIC10 really hits hard, not only with bass, but mids as well. Lots of sweet punch and control in this area! Nothing really sounds sloppy. It can be very very fun, but also takes on music well that wouldn’t call for that kind of sound, so pretty versatile, and I think the susvara just nails it with that.
Seems like sounds can come from anywhere, and its easy to pinpoint them, I think this plays in with the “blackground” because that aspect is pretty nice, kind of like what the 1266 and mysphere offers, but in an amp lol
To have this much detail but still be this smooth and textured, Its just so good. I’m not at all grasping for more detail.
Not really any faults I can find honestly. It really just plays the music so well. But ofc I don’t have any other amps in this range to compare to lol
Lots of things I wanna describe, but I just don’t have the brain to notepad ability yet lol
YES! I know i have gone on and on like a broke record about this but sus realy lacks that magic energy/attack/transient respinse/just fucking magic/whatever you want to call it and the aic gives it back. I genuinely am astonishingly happy with the aic so far as it solved basicaly my onpy complaint with sus (that i find stuff witjout that energy boring)
