Holo Audio「きつね」thread, Cyan / Spring / May / Serene / Bliss / Red

Red it is!

This already seems overhyped to me. Call me skeptical it’ll be competing with the better known streamers around.

Easy wrap job. If it’s solid I’ll wrap that shit up asap. That red is fugly.

I don’t think this is going to compete with streamers like what you have. It’s more for people who want a ddc and streamer AIO and under 1.5k.

Any release date yet?

I had seen about 30 days after the Bliss - so perhaps late December early Jan.

Preference aside, I think abandoning the well established Holo orange and black is a marketing mistake.

Fire engine red does nothing to build their brand.

Red shit sells dumb well in China though. I wonder if maybe it sacrifices wester market for Asian?

It is like the lampi line. The Duracell combo is just easy to look at. That or all black or all silver to match other components

I think if someone is serious in this segment they’d opt for the Pi 2 Design Mercury V2 streamer. It’s got way better connectivity options and the external power means you can probably get it to scale very well with a high end PS for mucho less dinero. It’s not red though. I do find the red sexy. I think the majority of the budget in the Holo is going towards that billet milled anodized case.

realy? I dont feel like ive seen any hype around this thing basically at all.

Yes. This is kind of my attitude. Its an interesting product because of the market placement specificaly. TBH between a pi and a blue sound node, not much of anything even exists on the market.

TBH man, I am not guessing a pi competes even with a well updated power supply. Holo’s USB implimentation on the may and spring 3 KTE is some serious magic that will be very hard to compete with and its likely to be using much tighter tolerance parts as well. Just from a measurement perspective, the filtering on USB seems to perform incredibly with dumb jitter performance.

idk, I guess I just have fairly high trust in this one given what holo tends to do exceptionally (electronics design above all else) is actualy exactly what I want from a DDC for my system. Plus its a price point thats just not well served right now either.

Yeah I’m hoping the I2S is solid out of it. Supposedly the Wavelight does well with this option.

Just look at the last few messages here in the thread lol
Low jitter DDCs are probably not so hard to do. Look at Singxer and Matrix as well iirc
There’s obviously more to a digital source then just that though. I agree the USB implementation on the Spring I owned was excellent but with such a lower price for the Red surely there’s some corner cutting as well. We’ll just have to wait and see where that happened.

I owned a Node. Its sound fit the asking price and lower. It’s a step in the right direction though for someone using a computer I guess

I think if it was just a ddc it would be ok. But having the streamer added in is nice and can be a good option at this price. That’s if it’s around the 1-1.5k range.

Thats fair. I was thinking more broadly than just this forum.

eh, yes and no. Like reduced jitter DDCs are easy, but the performance here is really really high from initial measurements. IDK if that will translate into good performance (the su-6 for example wasnt great IMO) but holo’s usb is damn good in my experience so im willing to give it a shot at least.

You mean lower price vs the spring? Cause I mean, one is a full ass dac while the other is a DDC and its still 50% of the price…

It should be sub 1k. I just dont remeber if they said 700 or 990 tbh

That would be nice. As long as it’s decent for the price. Hopefully it’s a native Roon endpoint too.
