what’s wrong with the spring 3?
Nothing really - I was an early adopter of the Spring3 KTE, I mean a first day pre-order of it and as such my unit shipped with the USB module that does not play well with AMD CPUs - and I have all AMD platform systems so I was a bit bummed when they started shipping the very next batch with a new module etc. etc. Let myself get caught up in that whirlwind for a bit. It all smoothed over though, but I still think it could have all been avoided if I had waited a while and let some of the kinks work out first, as I was advised by a few folks here to do. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth and I’m gun-shy now of early adopting.
The Spring 3 KTE: I really dig this DAC even with all of the above I’ve had it the longest of any DAC and I don’t really see myself letting it go anytime soon. I think of the few of us who had them early on I am the only one that still has theirs. For me it is “just right” and for now it sits in my primary chain, the one I built up to work the Susvara from.
700-1000 usd iirc. FWIW, if you plan to use it as a streamer, its the only one on the market that will do 1.5mhz PCM
Yeah and I will either need to update to a new May or Take Tim up on the offer to replace the module in my Spring3 - as I still run Threadripper and 5950x systems and I cant get above 768 with the OG Titanus module.
Oh and thanks for the pricing info - That’s in the same range as my ultraRendu with LPS so hell yeah I’ll be game to pick one up. I’m wanting another streamer to take the place of the last pi Allo DigiOne I have in use.
FWIW, if you use this as a streamer you wont need to worru about the spring3 usb module since ti will bypass that issue
I think I may have to get one of these. My X-SPDIF 2 is long in the tooth with the 3 recently released, but this looks like a better option.
Yes, because it is a streamer as well its pretty nice - It’s the reason I have not picked up a Hermes or Gaia yet because I think I may be able to solve to wants/needs with one device.
Going to guess @Hazi59 might be an example lol
rofl. I hate the color, but its interesting enough I may jump anyways
I was just typing out I bet I know a cat who would not think so but, he’s bought into the Denafrips line so no worries lol
Haha, fair enough. I like red myself.
Have you seen the Wildism facebook page? The red there doesn’t look so brite
Idc how bright it is. I want black. Like I’d litteraly pay more…
It’s Pi based so there will be SW options, looks promising especially if they can keep it sub $1K and it performs as we’d expect from Holo Audio. Can you say Kitsune Tune Edition? lol
Although I’m thinking this will be about $1600 price range.
Maybe the KTE will be in black if they do release one.
I wouldn’t be super confidant on those sw options. The ethernet commenucates directly with the USB module instead of using the normal route (how they can stream 1.5mhz) so it may use some fairly custom software
No plans for a kte according to Tim. Already askex
