Ferrum Audio thread, Hypsos / Oor / Erco

No, it’s some type of metal. The rep told me a story about it but I forgot how it went. lol

I was told it was cork and canjam and that certainly felt right to the touch. Uts compressed and hard like a wood though. Dont think wine cork.

Edit: conflicting info. Tbh I would trust my memory less. I did touch it and its not rough like rusty steel would be. I dont remebr it feeling like metal but :woman_shrugging:

Edit2: just asked someone that has one (i think he may be who o heard cork from not the rep thinking about it now). He said it doesn’t feel like metal

I was half joking about the rust. At this price point individually rusting and sealing plates sounds unlikely. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just molded aluminum or even a polymer of some sort.

The pressed cork sure sounds cool. :sunglasses:

Well Corten steel (to my short research) is made so its oxidation looks like it is well rusted but it seems to not sacrifice or affect the steel. Its seen in a lot of architecture or sculptures and its sold in sheets.

I can honestly see it both ways. Some pics look like cork with the grain and texture. Others look like a printed rust look.

It may have also changed though the development. But one thing is for sure that i sm looking forward to others impressions

What’s the deal with this photo? IMO the power should should go on the bottom.

Or am I wrong?

I would put the unit putting out more warm air on top.

Reading through head fi thread, there seems to be qc issues with the oor.

Also the idea is likely to add more weight on top of the amp so it’s less likely to move when plugging or unplugging something

Noooo my aspirations! What are some of the cited issues?

“Add me to the list of gain issues. My unit stopped working at fully +16db gain, it outputs the same power/volume at 0db & -6db of gain but occasionally the volume will suddenly increase to the +16db gain, I have to be extra careful with the volume right now. When it arrived it powered my Susvara to Max listening volume with the volume at 12 o’clock and now it requires volume at 3 o’clock to even full volume.”

Copied from discussion, hope it is not an issue to copy it here

I’d wait and see what happens, could just be a bad batch or something they resolve later, or just something that affected a disproportionate number of head-fi posters.
As long as they are getting resolved I wouldn’t worry about it.
Reports of problems are always disproportionately amplified on the internet, but still worth being aware of.

For sure I fully agree. Just wanted to pass it here so maybe it is worth to wait a bit longer while the production settles down a bit and they fix this issue.

…or affected a small number of Head-Fi posters who are disproportionately loud. :joy:

Agree with you entirely on this!! The internet turns everything up to 11.

@krack remember how one at canjam was quieter than the other? Maybe it wasn’t xlr vs SE input issue…

Oh my, I’m wading through the Head Fi thread right now and it’s full of these comments. Not very useful.

Also this one. Literally a ton of electricity. Do electrons even have mass?

Those are some heck of a bunch of posts. A little worried about that report of volume jumping up and i hope as others said it is an outlier

Literally was redefined a few years ago by Miriam Webster to mean Figuratively. (look it up)
There is literally no word in the American English language that still means literally.
