Ferrum Audio thread, Hypsos / Oor / Erco

Litteraly litteraly means litteraly as it litteraly has multiple meanings

Really? People misused it so much that it literally changed meaning.

Is nothing sacred? The world is going to hell- Cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria!! I literally have steam coming out of my ears.

So then how much electricity is a represented by a literal ton of electrons?

Thanks to Miriam Webster that can mean literally anything now.:exploding_head:

There was a lot of debate at the time.
It’s had the Actually and Virtually meanings stuck in there for a long time, adding that it could be used for emphasis on Figuratively was recent. Most commenters attributed it to a couple of popular TV shows at the time.
Language evolves and as Wittgenstein stated in his later work “meaning is use”.

You’re right- it’s not up to dictionaries to dictate but instead to catalogue the current state of the language.

But I started learning American English in 1975 so that version will always be the CORRECT English to me. Everyone else is wrong. :joy:

Electricity is the flow of electrons, so no amount can be represented by a weight. It does represent a quite substantial electrical potential though.

Interesting. :point_up_2:Marketing/sales. We don’t actually know anything. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m figuratively waiting with baited breath to hear impressions of this amp. Can’t wait until folks here start hearing it.

@M0N, has your unit arrived?

Not yet, waiting, although even if it did already get here I’m not sure I really want to listen to it right now, or even really have the time to, so I’m not too upset that it’s taking so long

When going with a metric tone: 10^3 kg / 10 ^ -31 kg = 10^34 electrons
IIRC that is 10 Decillion

No idea what that is in bananas per freedom eagle.

I could listen to it for you no problem. :smirk: lol

Hi guys, I’ve been looking to upgrade my GS-X Mini to something new for a while, so as to more adequately power my Susvara. In the absence of any new info regarding the new Holo amp, I’ve decided to try the Oor. I’ll be demoing it tomorrow at my local headfi place - I’m going to take my Susvara with me to test it out. If it makes an impression, I’ll be bringing the Oor and Hypsos home with me. I’ll let you all know what I think.

Please do! It’s an exciting new amp/psu!

And welcome to the forum!!

Interesting, I wonder about that combo, especially about the Hypsos.

I recently watched this talk at the Dutch Audio Event last week where a guy from Ferrum talks about the Hypsos and power in general, interesting talk, wish they talked a bit longer.

I ended up walking out with the Oor. He didn’t have a Hypsos in stock, so that arrives on Tuesday. I’ll add some thoughts to this post when I get some time later. Suffice to say I felt like my Susvara sounded noticeably fuller and more impactful than with my GS-X Mini. My DAC at home is a May lvl 2, so it’ll be interesting to see if that feels like a step down from the Tambaqui.

Nice, congrats on the OOR! Looking forward to some thoughts. I’d be curious to know how it compares to your gsx w/o the hypsos since they’re pretty much in the same price category amp to amp.

I havent thought about that. Yah. If the oor is good by its self its actualy in a fairly competitive market segment

Ok so I have a few valid comments for you guys on the Hyposis and the Oor. I am the one who made the quoted comment above on head-fi about the gain issues and volume jumping. Also I never used capitals so I wasn’t being loud or yelling!

My unit is back with my dealer right now to have the entire board replaced. I tried to get a new unit but cases must be scarce right now and it was more expedient for them to replace the board.

Onto impressions. The Oor without the Hyposis isn’t any better then an A90 to my ears necessarily. With the Hyposis it is several notches better in blackness in the quiet parts and dynamics. Before my gain issues it powered my Susvara incredibly well at 12 o’clock on the dial.

The front isn’t cork. It’s metal. It’s not rusted metal but a hammered steel that has that rust look. It is a great compliment to my Holo Spring 3.

Great sound, great versatility with the Hyposis, and great form factor and size for a headphone setup. Quality control is an issue. When it first arrived it had a single main board screw loose in the case. I had to open and reinstall the screw. They will get their shit together I’m sure, the product is too good not too.

In the meantime let’s get some Holo Audio Bliss talk going?! Anyone with info?

Thanks

Yeah, really good point. I did a quick A/B when I got home and thought that they sound very very similar - this is using the Susvara. Both amps on high gain, both around 10-11:30 on the volume. Noon or higher on either is too loud for my sweet ears with almost all songs. This was literally right out of the box - didn’t give the Oor any time to warm up, and the GS-X had been on all day, so that may factor in for some people.

I’m going to go with a slightly more measured approach to comparison now, and just use the Oor for a couple of days. I’ll switch back over to the GS-X tomorrow evening to see if I notice a bump up or down in sound quality, or if any particular aspects stick out to me.

On the Oor itself, it’s obviously a quite a bit smaller than the GS-X, and it’s lighter too - I suppose because the power supply is external. My unit has one foot that’s slightly shorter than the other three, so if I push down on one corner it makes the unit wobble. The ‘Fe’ that lights up is very bright - too bright really. Even in daylight, if I look at it for more than a second, I have a floating ‘Fe’ branded onto my eyesight. At night time when the lights are low it’s outright distracting, and I might have to cover it over. From memory, the brightness of the same symbol on the Hypsos isn’t the same, which is kind of irritating. I realise these are the world’s smallest nitpicks.

As @OneEyedHito mentioned above, the rusty-looking metal panel is not cork - it’s something called corten steel. It looks like rusted metal that has been covered with a thin layer of some sort of transparent enamel or lacquer. It’s slightly rough to the touch, and as far as I can tell they all look slightly different, which is pretty cool. I’m using a May lvl 2 and the aesthetic matches up. This whole purchase is entirely the result of my inability to wait patiently for the Holo Bliss.

What I will say now regarding the sound, specifically pertaining to the Susvara, I’ve always known them to have a very clean but slightly lean quality to them. This is not the case with the Oor - they seem warmer and fuller. There’s more body to the them, and this was a quality that stood out to me literally straight away when using the Oor and Hypsos together.

I also tried the 1266 Phi TC with the Oor/Hypsos stack when I was at the shop, and… I can’t stop thinking about it. In many ways the antithesis to the Susvara - like the two were separated at birth and the Susvara went on to become a renowned surgeon, whereas the Abyss became a champion heavyweight boxer. Very uncomfortable though - although I didn’t adjust them in any way from how they were set up already. My fear is that I’d buy it, but then Abyss will come out with a new design that doesn’t look or feel like something the army uses to extract information from prisoners.

There is a dial on the back to change the brightness iirc

Was going to mention you can probably change that, for the hypsos there’s a setting in the menus that let’s you adjust that, it was way too bright initially lol

Lol that’s a really good analogy, having both really does cover a lot of bases
