Antipodes streamer/server thread, CX / EX / S / K

I would like to know more, as in will it even make it to the S-Series.

They asked me a while back for suggestions but i kind of had life happen and never got around to it. Hopefully it is good.

I’m thinking of selling my K50 and getting a new K22 instead. It’ll get me all the latest generation upgrades but it’s a baby server instead of the full blown one K50 can run. Player and reclocker are identical.
With my relatively small library size and not using DSP I don’t see any real downside to this move.

Has anyone researched these options?

No experience with the K22 but seeing it has all the right outputs, that looks like an intriguing option tbh.

Some good news from Mark at Antipodes, and a bit of clarification.

The S-line WILL receive updates on the software side. So it will be able to upgrade to the upcoming AMSv5.0 . BUT, due to the chassis size, the hardware cannot be sent in and upgraded like they do for the other models.

I let him know my confusion with the ā€œdiscontinuedā€ wording they used. As it is still supported and will get software updates.

Update is nothing revolutionary but very nice.

Note your settings before updating! Mine were reset to default.

Booked and paid for the G4 upgrades for my k30.

I was tempted to upgrade to one of the new K models but retail pricing on the k50 was too scary to entertain and I haven’t been limited by USB yet…

I can now cast from the server to my chromecast. That is a pleasant surprise.

Anyone get a chance to listen to or audition a Grimm MU1?

Can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a used one out in the market and they’re not moving off the shelves quick either.

I wonder if there was just a mass of customers moving into the MU2 and that’s why there’s a lot of them on the used market but they’re not even the same class of device as the MU2 is a streaming server/DAC and not just a streaming server?

Being in the K50 category, was wondering if anyone came across one in their journey?

Probably a funcion of the MU2 shipping, thought it’s been out for a while now.
Grimm has a bit of a following over on What’s Best.

The thing of note is both versions are up samplers, the big marketing point is the proprietary upsampling algorithm.
I don’t remember where I remember seeing that, but it appears to be optional.

I assume many move to MU2 to fully fledged Streamer/DAC/Pre.

I’m very happy with my MU2 and the Roon integration is quite awesome and pretty fast. Would say not too far behind from Antipodes or TotalDAC.

Hello Antipodes Gang :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: !

I finally did it and got a new K22 Kala G4 and I’ve to say, as I was very biased not going this route… as I was looking for some replacement for Lumin U1 player-only and not wanting another Grimm MU1, nor another fancy 6kg alu-chassis and NO not going to oversized Taiko :face_with_tongue:

As many of you, including myself had quiet good streamers in the house, I’ve to say: K22 player outperforms easiley many of his contenders in the >10k<25k streamer range, I’d so far. As someone wanting all kind of digital outputs, K22 does it properly well.

How I use it currently?

  • K22 G4 in Roon-only Player mode, no server app (roon-bridge) activated (squeezer wil test in later stage) and my beloved Acapella absorber base and 4kg speedblock on top of the part where power supply is placed
  • Cube Audio Lotus (special TQWT edition, only made once  ) full range speaker with Sternklang speaker cables (Japanese, highly recommended, very good price/value - of course not for low-efficiency speakers where you need current and certain cable gauge!)
  • Amp: Audio Note Meishu Tonmeister 300b Silver Signature with my beloved ELROG 300B-Molybden (outstanding sonics)
  • DAC: my tube-reference from Abbas Audio HERMES Signature with PCM63P-K and Audiomica cabling (I know, I’m an Abbas fanboy, but his new PSYCHE/HERMES series plays in much higher league, triple the price!!)
–Ethernet Switch: Paul Pang Quad with Ansuz Ethernet cabling
  • Roon bridge via Grimm Audio MU2 as roon core (Qobuz)

First impression (-100h) ?

  • way deeper soundstage as with Lumin U1
  • pretty damn ^precise-machine, as highly detailed and sound-depth (full-range driver show immediately the difference :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: )
  • is it better or equal to Grimm MU2? NO, different, but both I’d not exchange them anymore as they are pretty perfect match in my very different hifi chains

So K22 G4 with latest AMS v4.4.0 I can highly recommend!

:germany: Greets from sunny Hamburg,!

Congrats! It’s an awesome unit for sure. I’m still using mine as a Roon player as well. Already have a Roon rock that I built a while back so I think I’ll keep it this way for now. I’ll eventually get some more files over to the local drive that I installed in the K22 but I’ve been busy with other things lately. Definitely want to try out the local files via squeeze.

I’m using it via USB and have no complaints. My current DAC responds well to it too.

It was definitely a step up from some other streamers and AIO I had before. Comparing to the more recent built in streamer from the Rossini, it wasn’t close imo.

Anyway, glad you’re enjoying it. Awesome setup!

Hi, using it now with USB Siren from Ideon Audio + Ideon Audio ION DAC - neat match! Not comparable with Holo KTE/USB (too flat, too relaxed or I’d call it: too-impose)!

I see you’re using IsoAcoustic footers on your speakers. Give the Stack Audio AUVA a try, may be very well worth it for you.

Have them already in my main chain, love the Auva’s. There are fine for the Cube Audio’s, those are the big boys: Gaia I (cubes dont proceed low-pass and weight is 60kg each)

@gerihifi may i ask what those white 2 piece tube dampers you are using are called please? Who sells them?

If I’m not mistaken, they are Duende Criatura, can be bought here stateside, prob elsewhere as well: Shopping

I have a pair, I’ve tried them but can’t say definitively they made any difference in my system. On the flip side, I don’t recall hearing any negative things either.

Duende Criatura from holland, they are pretty awesome (pure teflon). They make a difference (not per se), depending which tube gear you have and how close are other components, like large transforrms right next to it, or big sized tubes (Micro) vibrations are pretty bad for tubes and dampening rings make sense like absorber base  unfortunately for my Elrog’s 300B-Molybden I need special size and need extra order…

Recently inserted a Melz 1578 and listened to it without and then slipped a Duende on. I think I noticed a positive difference in more clarity and focus? It’s not a bad thing, may be cumulative if applying to multiple tubes.
