You should try the Wavelight too.
I was tracking to see if any show up for the price I wanted but this opportunity came first. I think I’m done for now with DACs. Feels like a good balance of price to performance. Once Levante sells I’ll pin down amplification for the downsized system and stop there, everything else is where I want it to be. Maybe except the analog chain but that’ll have to wait.
Installed an Audioquest 707 power conditioner into the system this afternoon. Scored a great deal on an open box one from a dealer called ListenUp on Audiogon. They are super flexible on prices if you ever come up with something they advertise highly recommended.
After my experience with the Susvara Unveiled, I’m a huge fan of the unveiling treatment. Super dynamics, super impact, and super bass. Sweet refined treble. Clarity and separation. Effortlessness and agility.
To me the pinnacle of Headphonery is the Susvara Unveiled, without hearing the highest estats. You just can’t get unimpressed.
So I decided to get the He1000 unveiled, and yes it is what I expected it to be being an Unveiled. Damn. When the prices make more sense, I know I’m going Sus Unveiled.
After trying both the Sus OG and Hek SE, the unveiled versions are clearly ahead.
I saw Wave Theory’s review of the HEk Unveiled and it did make me think it’s a safe blind buy for me.
Funnily enough, the mrs. was in the room while I was watching the review and she said, ‘Why don’t you buy it? It sounds perfect for you.’
I had to explained that I have ended the game and am super happy with HEkse and my chain I run it off.
@Go-Kart Your first and last sentences seem at odds with each other.
+1 for HE1000 Unveiled. I know it doesn’t need more hype, but I couldn’t be happier with this blind buy. I’m down to two headphones: OG Utopia and HekUV, and loving life
…if I were still in the game!
So I picked these up new from headphones.com for a deal with the points I had and gift card from @Alfredo3001
Very good for what I paid. Can’t believe I never tried these. Using them off the AIC10 atm lol. I’ll get around to trying out the mojo 2 and woo tube mini.
Focal Elex
Do you have any other Focal headphones? I’m curious what you think of it vs say, Clear OG?
I’ve never heard Elex, but I happen to be listening to my Utopia 2020 right now. I need to use it more, kind of forgot how great it sounds! Been spending a lot of time with my new ZMFs lately…
I owned the Clear OG years ago. Really liked them and enjoyed their dynamics, clarity, and didn’t have an issue with the timbre that some don’t agree with. Clear was awesome with the RNHP (give it to me ). Elex seems to be in this conversation. From memory it has more bass, bigger stage and I think a slightly warmer signature. I like it! Mids are solid too. Maybe not as much definition in the bass but it’s a fun headphone.
Utopia OG and 22. They’re both obviously better but I prefer the 22. OG wasn’t bad but its highs were just a bit too much at times. Could come off thinner than the 22. The 22 had a better low end to my ears. And I felt the 22 did better with clarity. OG could get a bit rougher around vocals or certain notes within the mids. Maybe this was the thinness I mentioned. OG isn’t bad at all. And if I didn’t have the 22 to compare, then I would have enjoyed the OG as well. This was just in comparison. The Elex’s warmth is closer to the 22 than the OG. I feel Elex has a bigger stage width, but not depth. Its decay and transients are enjoyable too. Just a bit different than Utopia. Utopia is just more refined all around. But I’ll take the Elex being thousands of dollars cheaper lol. Makes them sitting around watching me use the Sus and 1266 a bit easier haha.
Had the Stellia too but very different being a closed back and warmer from memory. Stellias mids could be odd at times and it was weird to pair. If you got the pairing down it was nice.
Had the Elegia and Radiance. Elegia was solid for the price. Pretty neutral. Radiance is a very good closed back at its price point. Probably take it over the Stellia. Very fun!
6080 CV2984 MULLARD came in for the BHC
I’m sure it needs some burn in because it looks to be in crazy good shape. Thanks @Hazi59 for another rec.
That’s my favorite power tube for the BHC. If you can find a Brimar CV4003/12AU7, you will have my favorite pairing for the BHC.
More than the Matsushita 12AU7? Well I’ll get to looking then.
Matsushita 12AU7 is really good. It added some space and air. I really like what it did with the low end too.
This is the same seller I bought my Mullard 6080 CV2984.
I like the Matsushita, but it is only an OK pairing with the Mullard CV2984. The Matsushita 12AU7 is an amazing pairing with a Bendix 6080WB (extremely hard to find and expensive). In lieu of the Bendix, the Raytheon 6080WB or 6080WC, or the Thomson 6080WA would be better pairings.
Would this suffice? Not a terrible price
Thay price is actually really good.
I wonder what Red Bank means on that one…
There’s this one. Free shipping lol.
I paid $175 for mine, but it was only lightly used. I’m lucky I got it at that price. Ive seen them sell for as high as $850.
I was able to snag a pair of Xenns Mangird Tea 2 for $100. I also picked up the new Simgot ET142. Both have impressed me a lot. The Tea 2 holds up well for a pair of IEMs that were released 3 years ago. The Simgot ET142 is a ridiculous price to performance option. It comes with the Simgot LC7 upgrade cable, 4 nozzles with different tunings, 3 different types of eartips, and an awesome carrying case. Previously, I preferred the Letshuoer S15 as my favorite planar IEM…but the ET142 has already taken the crown.
