I recently got some soffit bass traps from GIK acoustics (not showing pics because they are basically boring black boxy things).
I had a “consultation” over email with one of their guys which was pretty detailed although it might have been a template but the guy did ask me for pictures of my room and we exchanged 3-4 emails and he suggested I start with a couple of bass traps (with range limiters since I didn’t want to kill high freqs) and a couple of diffusors/absorbers that I can move around.
I started with just the bass traps with range limiters and it took almost a month to get them and they delivered one wrong as I had ordered with walnut top and one didn’t look like it had the range limiter. I don’t know how to tell if it but one had some stuffy material on one edge and the other didn’t. But the customer service was nice enough that I didn’t have to return the wrong one and they sent the replacement within a week. The replacement still doesn’t have the stuffy material so I still don’t know if it has the range limiter…I don’t even know how to place the one with range limiter since the stuffy material is only on one side so how should that be facing?
Overall I’m a little annoyed by the experience but they have made a lot of difference and haven’t killed the high freqs completely. I feel like I’m missing some of the shimmer and decay but the improvement in bass perhaps makes up for it. I didn’t think the bass was bad before but its more visceral and feel in your body type bass now. Plus my room looks more professional lol
I had a similar experience with them on the shipping. In the end they made it right and even got some “freebies” in the process but not a well run production/shipping department. The profit margins have to be huge given the inefficient way they run the production and shipping.
Move things around, and closer to the wall will take less “air” out but will not be as efficient with the trap. You can get a good ballpark with theoretical placement of panels but in the end you’ll have to play around. My before and after were very much noticeable but I started with a clean slate room with the treatment designed as a first step. I’ve got 9 panels 4 of those refractors and two of those with high frequency absorbtion fro rear reflections. The entire thing is a 10 X 12 X 10 box with one of the 24" X 48" 3" thick panels on the ceiling with their corresponding brackets, well worth it but it wasn’t a seamless experience.
Yeahh, they made a few mistakes with my order too back then. They didn’t hesitate to give me a partial refund though. I personally regret buying them, they don’t actually get enough rate and level of absorption (for low-end). Good you seem to like them so far
That’s good to know that I’m not the only one. I had looked up diy options but I don’t have the space for such a project so figured I’d go with something prefab.
Yeah I’m always moving my speakers around here and there a little. I have them widest right now which is quite close to the walls and the traps (they are in the corners) as well. I haven’t got the diffusor/absorber panels yet as I repositioned some book cases instead for now. I don’t have a rear wall so that’s another thing kinda different that I need to figure out.
I rent my apartment so I’m wary of putting anything on the ceiling, although it has this popcorn ceiling so I keep hoping it scatters reflections to extent which might be helping (or making it worse lol).
So I have one of those open room type situations where I don’t have a back wall, well I do but it’s not a “clean” back wall and quite a bit behind my listening spot so in terms of reflections, I would consider it pretty farfield and don’t think it would help much to treat it much so I started with back and got the bass traps only for now which I put in the corners behind the speakers (see here for reference).
Okay, cool. I had thought about moving the speakers to the living room but not entirely comfortable with giving the dog access to the rug I have in the listening room lol. Might grab front wall traps with the first reflection treatment and see how that fairs before making anymore (audio) purchases. I’m definitely at the point where I know I should take care of the room first before anything else.
Aqua La Voce in the house. Up and running but need some cable management which will be numero uno after I get some relaxation time with it. My sincere thanks to @Polygonhell for the sale.
Well packed and well shipped. Good sized Dac that equals the Bryston footprint pretty well.
Well, it’s been a very long time coming, some may remember me talking about them years ago at this point. A8000 intrigued me even before I bought the A3000 in March of 2021. Finally got my hands on a set. Haven’t had a listen yet, will happen a little later. I’m SUPER excited about this one because of how long it’s been on my list.
