Oh, and Welcome to the v550 gang WooHoo!!
I’ve been thinking about joining V550 gang recently but realistically gonna end up with a V222 at some point.
Woo Audio WA23 Luna in the house.
This thing weighs a ton and most photos don’t show the beefy small external power supply that comes with it.
The WA23 is basically a single ended two components design of the WA33 Elite. It’s single-ended triode pure Class A design, featuring a pair of 6C45 driver tubes, a pair of 2A3 power tubes, and a single 5U4G rectifier tube. Transformer-coupled, Point-to-Point wiring. Nothing hybrid like some of the talks about Woo these days.
I heard it at Canjam for the first time and it left quite the impression on me. Probably the best tube amp I had a chance to listen to from my early impressions there. It had the 33 technicalities but a little sweeter and warmer signature
It’ll take some time to break in but it’s dead silent already with stock tubes. I’ll try tube rolling after I get to know it better.
Jack Wu recommends JPS Labs power cables and Takatsuki tubes. Interestingly he said the power tubes would be the most significant impact if upgraded, with the the drivers following and the rectifier last. I do have a RCA 5U4G here so I’ll probably start with that.
I’m not totally in love with how it looks but can appreciate the engineering and thought behind it.
Sweet. I know Marcello Rostagni (Mr Hifi Reviews) really like it.
Looking forward to hearing your impressions after some time with it.
Congrats! Will be eager to know your thoughts on it paired with the susvara and D8KP.
Strangely not a lot of info on this in the public domain. I wrote to Woo asking for power specs but they were vague and just said it’s good enough to drive demanding planars.
Woo don’t quote the power output, but it’s likely no more than 3W, that’s pretty much the limit for SE 2A3 designs unless you parallel the output tubes. The question becomes into what impedance.
Susvara might work, hard to say really. I’m sure the D8KP will be very good on it.
But I too look forwards to the listening impressions.
I’ve heard the number 2w talked about but not sure to what impedance. In any case it’s absolutely limited by the design but from first impressions it drives the Susvara beautifully.
Would be interesting to try it out as a pre to the HM1 when it arrives here as well. Then power won’t be a problem at all (or the other way around to get the HM1 soundstage and EQ features feeding the WA23).
I’m hoping its touch of warmth and sweetness balance the D8KP LE nicely. And curious how it’ll push the HD650.
I sold the mysphere to help purchase it
but it stayed in the community so everybody calm down lol
Nice, congrats! The black and gold will match the D8KP LE nicely.
Definitely a cheaper match than a Lampi Pacific!
Just ordered a DHC triple threat adapter so I can use my Brise Mikumari ref.2 with my D8KP and a ultrashort 4.4mm (female) → 4pin XLR (Male) adapter to use my IEMs on the headphone system.
Now to wait… ![]()
How long is the wait for adapters usually? I know they say it could take longer, but it’s a bit vague.
idk… but I’m prepared to wait a month or two ![]()
or 5…
I can’t cite source but, I recently saw someone post a similiar comment regarding that amp in their system with the Susvara and being quite pleased. Congrats and IMO it looks good.
It’s the best I’ve heard the Sus and it took me only 30min to realize that tbh
Vinh from Danacables underpromised and over delivered on these, expected them in another week, he accepted my minor hardware requests and voila they arrived Thursday.
Lazuli Reference Plus with some mods
Thank you to those who were kind enough to answer my novice questions. After two full days, I have not been able to notice any differences, This may have been an expensive gamble.
Vinh from Danacable was a class act, communicating back and forth in reasonable amount of timed, sending me emails late into the night to finalize one detail, Great customer service!
Danacable customer service is excellent. I happened to email them earlier in the week, asking if they were going to have any ZMF-compatible cables at Axpona, and Vinh was kind enough to answer not just that, but also all my follow-up questions, all in one evening, just like your experience. And I wasn’t even buying anything.
I don’t think we’ve purchased tickets (though my partner often surprises me with fun stuff, so who knows), but I thought this was cool for those that did purchase tickets recently.
Nice of Robert Smith to take a stand on behalf of their fans.
