I never wondered about the 872 while wanting the 812, can you recall the differences and write them?
Has been almost a year since I heard them (for about an hour each).
Amp was a V550 fed from some Phono Pre and some Trans Rotor player, no idea about the cartridge. Test Album was Yosi Horikawa - Vapor.
Like you said, the 812 is the AKG sound at best. Wide stage (but very coherent compared to my 712, there instruments sometimes get lost by themslevees), “bass” is mostly in the lower mids than actual bass region. For example, in “Maki”, there is definetly slam, just not in the bass. In “Cave”, the bass was more present, but still too rolled off for my liking.
The 872 is similar to the 812, except the stage is significantly smaller, yet still impressive for a closed back, and the bass will definitely become overwhelming on a warm setup.
Had a pair of D1.1, loved them, only ditched them since I upgraded to Borresen 01, also they really take well to decoupling btw, Ansuz Darkz T2S pair fantastically
I actually didn’t mind it on the right amp, that was really imo why the 812 got it so bad, people just didn’t pair it well
I can absolutely see that being a huge issue.
Bought LG C2 42in for my desk, that’s right for MY DESK
Check out my post in the my setup thread for finished pictures
I have a asus 34 inch ultra wide but I’ve been thinking about this tv for some time. I like the 42 option, better than a 48 for desktop use imo. Only concern is burn in and of course upgrading the gpu to run it properly. I know there’s things to help with burn in and apps to make life easier. Guess I’ll have to figure out if I want to deal with those things.
How’s using something like word docs or email? I heard some say the text can be a little off vs a normal monitor.
I feel the same way, it’s very tempting and I will update my monitor this year, but I need something I can use for productivity as well as gaming and I think that leave me with a 42 or 48 inch LCD monitor instead.
Honestly from what I have heard in the community, burn in on these new generation panels is not really as big of a concern as it used to be say 4-5 years ago. That is of course only if you make sure to follow best practices, like if you put a static image on the screen and leave it on all night and don’t set up WOL sleep settings then yeah it’s gonna have retention or possibly burn in, but if you aren’t stupid it seems like a non-issue these days.
not great out of the box. But you can tune it to be better. Cleartype is one way to do it but there are other programs that can make the text reading experience a lot better. Still not gonna be as good as a traditional lcd monitor but I feel like it is passable. the trade off is worth it imo.
I’d say if you can, give it a chance and order off of amazon, if it’s not gonna do it for your productivity needs then you can easily return it. If you buy before the end of the year you will also get the extended holiday return period too which is nice.
I don’t think I will be able to go back to a backlit panel after this
Great info. I appreciate the reply.
Yeah I have a lg oled 65 in my family room and it’s awesome. I don’t like my other screens around the house nearly as much haha.
I’m definitely interested and will probably make the jump in the near future. Just need to really look into the applications to prevent burn in.
np for more info check out this subreddit and guide for a bunch of good info regarding what needs to be tweaked.
Thanks, makes perfect sense, the force of the slam they produce might reach fotex levels on closed back, sounds like it would be a charm on a neutral setup.
The 812 are already one of my all time favorites, its the huge size I was looking for with the forward aggressive presentation I was looking for.
I prefer it to the hd800 I demoed but they are very different and the hd800 was connected to a fisher price setup. (With higher end gear the 800 should be a lot more resolving)
Never had the pleasure of spending time with a higher end Fostex.
Omega Junior 8 XRS
Going to take me a while to find the right placement for them in the room but very excited about these. Also found a great deal on the deep hemp subwoofer but that’ll be here mid next week.
They look great!
Extremely pleasing grain on the veneer
once settled into position just FYSA the spikes are meant to be driven directly into the carpet and don’t require the disks. I don’t use mine because i want the ability to slide the speakers out of the way when i am swapping and the spikes are so sharp they pierce my rug and gouge the hardwood beneath. Congratulations on finally getting them in hand. So very happy the seller was able to package them well enough to survive the trip.
Congrats, hope you get a lot of listen time this weekend. Out of curiosity, how much did it cost you to get them shipped? Every time I look for used speakers I try to stay local or at least within a three hour drive time because shipping and fear and expense etc. You got those from FLA and they got there in good order and quickly.
I was extremely lucky that the seller offered the shipping be on him in his original ad. The two speakers including shipping and fees ended up being $1650 for me (25% off new and no wait). I’m assuming he paid a few hundreds for shipping and fees out of it since he insured them each and each box was over 40lbs.
They are the one shown on the Omega website
Good to know about the spikes, I definitely want to remove them.
The Rendus seem nice but I wish they weren’t like 10x the price of an rPi
Let me clarify on my spikes. I did not pull them off. I just don’t spike them into the carpet. My vent is on the bottom of the speaker so I need it raised off the floor to operate. I simply use bench cookies under my spikes to be able to slide them. Its a cheap man’s solution to a small preference quirk
Yes, my carpet sheds like crazy😤
I’m going to try with and without them and see how I feel. These are pointy MFs
