Violectric v590 / v550 / v380 / v340 Headphone Amps

I’ve sent him several things, including the Oor & Hypsos and MZ3. I’ll vouch for him if you have concerns.

Not to defend how he handled it but he was manipulating a 30pound with one hand while using a camera on the other.

Yes it could have been done better I think he didnt expect the metalic finish to nick, thats a weak paint finish.

Might want to let him know that the “s” is silent on “chassis”
If you do decide to send him something…

EDIT:
Oof, I just saw him spin it on its top side against his rack and casually mention the not so nice scratch he just created! Yeah that is a no no despite how heavy it is. Don’t ever treat gear like that, he could have done a jump shot to show the back side as there was no reason to turn it upside down.

Hello, im asking for a friend.

Has anyone tried the v550 with the th900? (in this case its a purple LTD)

He’d like to get a used v550 because his amp is an aune s17 very warm, he is looking for a reference sounding amp upgrade.

My friend started just a year ago but really got into this.

This year hes buying he1000 v2 stealth, diana v2 and LCD24 but he wants something that can handle both the planars and specially the th900ltd which are very picky.

I think @Delta9K uses a th909.

I would say it depends on ones preferences. I used it with Aqua La Voce S3 dac.

I really liked v550 with my th900 and it is still the best pairing I heard those on. I guess for me that combo was somewhat raw and animal and super fun.

I kept Paltauf because of mysphare synergy but I am considering to pick v550 in the future again just because I enjoyed it with th900

Thanks a lot, is it a regular red th900? My friend has the purple one but I think the synergy is the same.

Do you have a preference like for examples bassy tunings, neutral/studio/reference tunings, brighter leaning treble, cleaner or dirtier bass? (dirty as in basshead boomy).

I have sapphire blue edition but iirc I had also th900 og and th909 at the same time and liked all of those on v500 just sapphire blue is better tuned for different type of music.

As for the preference I converted for standard consumer bassy tuning to somewhere bright neutral. I originally had to had punchy bass and a lot of it but that changed significantly with mysphare and now with adx5000. I am not treble sensitive so for me nice treble usually means more clarity and detail. And bass has to be clean and tight and present but not main star of the show anymore.

If I want to bang my head around with proper bass I always pick th900 though. It still sounds great even on Paltauf.

Yup, thats why my friend picked the LTD version, more of a generalist and based on your comment I believe the v550 will give a detailed, extended, powerful bass but clean and black background with the th900ltd.

Thats crazy, I had a very similar come up, started with punchy bass as my #1 priority but after the ad2000x I got the adx5000 and everything changed. Mysphere 3.2 is in my shopping list for this year and im very excited for it.

Im considering not getting the utopia og to favor the mysphere after talking with a friend, but id like to get both; although I have my doubts about both being keepers (utopia og may be too clinical and mysphere is just clampy, clamp destroys my XL head in the temples).

I have no treble or mids sensitivity, I do get fatigue but sibilance doesnt hurt or bother me (unless it ruins a good song).

Treble priority, I need my dose of sparkle and clarity, the bass has to be present but as tight and clean as possible.

@elementze hello!

Could you give some initial impressions on your nimbus when you can? Thanks

Has anyone on here heard the v281 LE? If so thoughts on it vs the og 281?

I can’t imagine it’s any different. Isn’t the LE just a new run of the same amp due to popular demand?

I had the original v281, then upgraded to the v550, and later to the v281LE. The v281LE didn’t sound like the old v281. Was it something entirely different? Not exactly. It had a tad more treble extension and wasn’t as “warm.” There is a person on Head-Fi who owns both models currently. Multiple people have asked him to compare them, but he keeps evading the question. My chain was different when I had the original v281, so take this with a grain of salt.

It’s not exactly the same. The v281LE uses an upgraded volume control that’s not available on the original v281. I think it’s newer and similar to the Niimbus or v550, but I’m not 100% sure.

On another note, Zeos is really something. I’ve been following the v281LE sales for a while. It was stuck at 11, but after Zeos’s video, it dropped to 8.

Edit:
11 available units dropped to 8 available units.

Has anyone here ever compared V550/590 to a DSHA-3F?

The V550 will certainly drive “difficult” headphones, but I am thinking about synergies with headphones like Utopia (2020), Clear OG, and ZMF dynamics like Atrium, Verite, and Eikon. Also have a Rosson RAD-0, and Tungsten DS incoming at some point.

My chain is iMac > Apple Music/Lossless Switcher or Qobuz > Yggy OG A2/Unison > Nitsch DSHA-3FN and a Flux FA-10 Limited (currently on hand for Tungsten). If I got a Vio the Flux amp would go, along with some other gear sitting around.

I’m eyeballing the V590 that’s on sale at the moment, which I’d mostly use as amp only, and it would be an excellent amp for Tungsten (it seems), among others…

Any thoughts on synergies or vs DSHA-3 for the dynamic headphones? Thanks!

Some info I found while doing research on the MJ3 at SBAF is that most people there swear by the Nitsch DSHA-3FN for the Utopia and Clear. My guess is the Nitsch DSHA-3FN would pair better with those, since it was designed with Focals in mind. On the other hand, I used the v550 (+2541) with the Utopia, and it was a nice pairing that lacked a bit of bass, which shouldn’t be a problem with your Yggy. We have @Delta9K and @elementze who pair the Yggy OG + v550 with great results.

My personal opinion: go for it, LOL. I’m thinking about jumping to get one myself since I miss the v550.

That is interesting, and that would be my same observation with the Nitsch vs the Flux amp I currently have if I listen to my Focal and ZMF headphones.

The Nitsch is definitely not a bass heavy amp, but it sounds so good with almost any dynamic headphone! The Vio wouldn’t replace it unless it blew the DSHA-3 away (doubtful), and I’m probably kind of dumb to consider buying it! But I’ve been curious about Violectric for some time, and that V590 is a very good deal. From reading other forums it sounds like the stepped attenuator “pro” version has definitely had issues, so it seems you’re better off without it!

If you plan to get the Tungsten, I believe the Violectric amps are an excellent choice, either the V281 LE or the V550. The buyer who purchased my V281 LE got it specifically for his Tungsten (6 months delay and still waiting, I think). He told me—better check the Tungsten thread over at Head-Fi to confirm—that people recommend the Violectric amps for the Tungsten alone.

Regarding the V550 Pro, I didn’t have the Pro version, but I had the V281 LE, which comes with the relay reed volume control. I’m not sure how I feel about it. Some days, it annoyed me too much; other days, it was like it wasn’t there. I noticed that letting it warm up and scrolling the volume a few times reduced the static sound.

Having just got a 281 a few hours ago, I must say it’s incredible. Seems to pair well with my Comet Plus, too!

The Comet Plus is one of the recommended synergy pairings for the v281, along with the 2541 and DAC2, based on what I’ve read. It’s one of my favorite amps, both in terms of sound and design. Enjoy!

The Comet+ is well known to pair well with the 281!? Well aren’t I lucky! I just had a basic understanding of their signatures and hoped for the best!

I can’t wait to throw some more headphones at this chain tomorrow. It had me grinning from ear to ear with my HE-5LE.
