A thread for all things ToolShed Amps.
I wonder why lol
We all have our various quirks, preferences and general likes and desires. The first time i texted with Matt of Toolshed amps i knew i had found another “Brother-in-arms” He’s a “talker” and genuinely passionate about his art. I love the look of his pieces, & he had to talk me off the ledge when we started talking about brass, copper (CA 110 1/8” laser cut) and bronze plates and knobs being incorporated into the aesthetics, the cost can be crippling
During our extended conversation he hit multiple names, Charney, Radu Tarta, Gordon Rankin, Dave Slagle, Joe Roberts, and R.I.P Mike LaFavre & Roger Majeski. His admiration and relationships in the community favored so many whose equipment, skills and knowledge I’m an admirer of.
Many fine builders have passed unfortunately, their equipment still circulates throughout the market popping up from time to time and I’m constantly itching to try various pieces. I’m thankful that there is enough of a niche market for folks Like Toolshed amps to find it worthwhile to dedicate their craftsmanship to in order to eek out a living. Congratulations @Souldriver on commissioning such an interesting custom piece for yourself from a great builder I’m so excited to follow along in your Hi-Fi adventures!
^ This.
It felt like talking to an old friend and we were on the same wavelength when talking about sound. It helps he had the same musical taste and headphones. I gave Matt a description what I was looking for, concerns, and needs and he did the a few mockups and we chose what was best. During this he also convinced me to go to concerts again as the pandemic still has me worried, and if he didnt i would have passed on 3 outstanding performances.
While I still am in the waiting phase, it looks like I am a few weeks away from it shipping to me. But all delays and challenges he was upfront with and some were simply queue times and 1 month + waits for parts.
To be honest Matt was very communicative this whole time and sent pics at any major milestone. Which he was happy to have me share and ill post some below.
In short my amp will be 2a3 powered, C3g driven, and GZ34 rectified. More details as the amp comes in.
