Where can a fella get a decent looking rack these days?? I was gonna go for the Solid Steel VL 4 but there’s a 5 month wait! I’m in a new house and the focal point of our living room is missing cuz of this. Any thoughts?
Ugh, most fancy racks made of nice material are gonna take months to get ahold of unless you find someone selling their own used rack. Good luck on whatever you find but you are best off going to Ikea and grabbing something temporary until you find and have commissioned what you want.
The difference between the level you posted and what’s available for immediate delivery is night and day.
Try some of these…
You may have lick with a local woodworker. If you can find one, speak to them and see whats up.
Our own @Polygonhell got a hold of a most awesome rack.
Maybe something from his guy?
Hot damn what a nice price! Gotta take note of that. However, yesterday my partner took the initiative and grabbed something from Ikea. Wasn’t my favorite decision but after putting it in I gotta say it looks amazing. I’ll post pictures soonish But even so… Might have to get one of those racks down the line…
Should be in the purchase thread but figured since BBA was mentioned that I should show off the custom one I ordered from them for my cute little Exogal stack here…
Not to be a copy cat but could you pm or post the exact measurements and wood choices you went with? I’m terrible at that kinda stuff but what you have exactly what I want.
Also " Included is all the hardware you need to assemble them (12 screws), and a “#2 square recess power bit” which you use to drive in the provided wood screws and a bottle of wax."
For the power bit are you actually drilling a hole or is the hold pre-drilled and the bit is just to insert the screws?
Let me PM you, might be a week or so, I’m currently on vacation with very limited connectivity.
But IIRC, the shelves were 1 inch deeper, all the leg heights were, custom, walnut legs, and maple shelves. Those are pretty much his entry level woods, he’ll do almost anything he can source.
Missed this, they are pre drilled, but the screws are “cutting” the wood with their threads, start it with you fingers, and I just ran them in with an electric screwdriver, but you can’t really misalign them, because the legs have an L shaped cutout for the shelves.
No hurry enjoy the vacation
The “Best for Color” slogan is awesome. Apparently audiophiles aren’t the first to debate the qualities of different tube manufacturers.
Yeah those stands are awesome, ever since poly talked about that shop I’ve been keeping them in mind for when I finalize my desk setup. Maybe looking at getting something made for a desk to replace my ugly metal rack mount that I have now
Anyone have a good spot for a butcher block type of top / slab? To make everything fit i need to make a shelf for the desktop. I figure a slab of wood with some legs is more than adequate.
Right now there are some decent sized slabs from ikea and such but they are either too shallow, or waaay too deep (and too big overall). Finding the mythical 17" depth stock seems tricky.
Ideas? I want to avoid the metal rack if possible
They also do custom orders but should have the size you’re looking for already. Maybe I misread what you were looking for lol
I’m having two custom sized slabs made currently. Why custom sized? OCD I guess and I get to pick my own wood, my own finish and I keep the money with a local craftsman. I’m over paying but you know, the entire hobby is littered with things we over pay for.
BTW IMO, these IsoAcoustics blocks are a good value IMO given that you get four of the ISOAcoustics feet embedded in the block.
I sent a text to my contractor friend to see if he has some bigger cut offs since that stuff is all the rage.
The butcher block stuff i thought was way more expensive. The iso acoustics is out of my price range tbh. I am trying to keep it around $150.
Did you want just something clean to place your gear on or are you hoping to do some vibration control as well?
Following. I would like something custom also to fit height and width to my space.
I was thinking of using black pipe. There’s a kit on amazon, something like this…
I just need to find the wood. It’ll match the look of the bar table I made for the basement.
(Rear surrounds have been upgraded. )
Mostly something clean. I figured a riser, or desktop shelf to put the amp, dac, whatever on top of, then some things underneath. Id i can reduce vibration as well so be it, maybe those pointy feet? But its not the primary goal and vibrations should be minimal with headphone use.
