I like it a lot. I didnāt anticipate the 2541 to be such a large jump up from the 1321. And the V281 definitely benefits from the balanced out of the 2541.
It totally is a big jump up. I was surprised too.
OMG Iām so from California. Never realized it until nowā¦.dudes.
Like totally tubular dude!
Whatās up dude, from another dude from california dude
Jokes aside.
KTE-SU-2 sounds like something Iād like, I want the slam and the overexaggerateness of details of the Dangerous Music Convert 2 to slap me further in the face
Where in California?
Near L.A Socal
@rgdelato How are you connecting to your Exogal?
Hello hello! Iām currently connecting over AES!
So for a little bit of background, when I first got my Exogal, I could hear USB noise from my laptop through my Quicksilver even if I unplugged the Exogal from the wall. (Pretty sure this was caused by a ground loop, but yeah, on modern MacBooks, all the USB ports are also charging ports.) As a quick fix, I bought an iFi iGalvanic, which broke the noise, but suffice it to say that Iām assuming that Iām starting from kind of a bad place in terms of USB signal quality.
So yeah, my chain now is MacBook Pro ā iGalvanic ā SU-2 KTE ā Exogal all connected with Audioquest Carbon cables.
How about you? Whatās your setup looking like for your new Singxer?
Mine arrives today, but I plan on using AES also. Iām interested in the I2S out, but by current DAC doesnāt Have an input.
Yeah, my DAC doesnāt have I2S either. Also, my DAC maxes out at 384kHz, so you may want to take note of that if youāre using any kind of upsampling. (The SU-2 can accept 768k, but my DAC wonāt play it.)
(P.S. Iām also living in California near L.A.)
I would be happy to use AES/EBU - I use that with the xspdif 2 ā dac1541. The Spring 3 also has input for I2S and I read that it was ābetterā so that is why I mentioned it. My problem is that if I use any digital input (spdif over BNC/Coax, AES, or I2S) I have to disable PLL or I have an approximate 3500ms delay for the PLL to lock when sample rate changes.
Perhaps this is specific to the DAC and PLL implementation and I should move to another thread?
Yes Iād agree to use I2S if you have it, my post was more tongue and cheek, different dacs prefer different inputs, with the spring I2S makes the most sense imo, but on other dacs itās different
Yep, with a good pll that is more sq focused, it will sacrifice low latency for better quality, thatās somewhat common
It is not a low latency issue there are no operation issues with video sync or ālagā - it is when the sample rate changes there is a delay while the PLL gets a lock, it cuts off the first part of the first track played using the new sample rate. Very annoying if you have a playlist comprised of tracks with different sample rates. I can work around it in roon by setting a hardware sync delay, but anything else no joy, at least with the software players I have. I can disable the PLL locking and all is fine. So thats another question, am I putting too much into the PLL locking
OK I see maybe I need to move to a general thread⦠I only posted here becuase I asked specifically to Tim if my xspdif was not compatible (it is) and should I get the Kitsune SU-2 or an SU-6 - where he replied saying the PLL lock delay would still happen, basically implying it was not the DDC.
Ahhh thatās fairly normal with most dacs, happened to about half of mine, no real fix for that depending on the dac
It is the dac itself, not the ddc. If you donāt observe this problem on USB, Iād just use that personally as itās likely going to be either just as or almost as good as the ddc
OK, Yep thatās what he said too and made me feel like an idiot saying most people know this and never ask about it⦠And thatās when he explained, using that Titanis USB I have on the KTE is the same as the May DACs and is just as good if not better⦠Also, that the USB is set to the priority device in the PLL and locks much faster (it does no delay). Iām going to drop it as it is what it is.
Action shot!!
No impressions yet, just plugged it in. But I will be connecting to the DAC via the DDC and through usb, so AB testing will be exceedingly easy.
You should try it with the USB disconnected from the DAC, depending on how the DAC deals with USB you could still be getting noise over the power lines.
Ah. Would never have known that. Thank you!
My long term rationale for having the USB direct into the DAC is for gaming. Iām assuming latency introduced by the DDC will be meaningful enough to need it? I need all the help I can get against these quick reflexed teenagers!!
