Need more and bigger. 32 and 24 just not enough!! LOL!!
Its seems like everyone i know super happy with 13r uses rockna. Its made me pretyy damn currious about trying the combo to see if it improves my fairly unfavorable opinion of the amp tbh
The amp isn’t neutral or a detail monster. But the dynamics and overall presentation make up for it. I’ve read some calling it “liquid,” Not my words, but I think the description fits.
The Rockna is pretty awesome, but it’s the only DAC in anywhere near this price range I’ve paired with the Bakoon, so I can’t say if it’s a good synergy or value.
Rockna+Bakoon/Enleum camp… love that
Been extremely blissfull with my system in recent times.
DACs:
-
Wadia 25: R2R Non-discrete - Extremely bassy, impactful and generally fun sound. Listen to everything but particularly enjoy Hip Hop, Pop, K-Pop and alt rock. It presents music in a completely different way than I’m used to and I absolutely love this new perspective on music. A true bass-head’s DAC.
-
P6P: R2R Discrete - The most neutral-natural DAC, I’ve ever heard. Attack and decay is awesome, blackest background I’ve heard, the most organic timbre/tonal balance with an emphasis on walking the line between being neutral and musical enough. Most importantly it has soul even if it’s not a big focus. Listen to everything in it too but generally enjoy vocals, post modern music, classical in it most.
Amplifiers:
-
Woo Audio WA8: Tube based amplifier - Lovely amplifier with focus on organicness and Soundstage width. The sound signature is completely dependent on pairing, it can be the warmest, most impactful, gooey and soulful sound or it can be fairly neutral, quick and very detailed. But the key point is that it’s inherently organic and big sounding.
-
P6P? : It’s technically a DAP, but I haven’t had the chance to use it as one. Don’t know how good the amplifier is yet. Just use the DAC section, but it’s nice knowing I can use it’s amp (albeit only when paired with its own DAC)
Music Source:
-
Big Knob: Passive music interface. Passive preamp for my speakers and volume control. It’s fine, but I really would like to upgrade Preamp since I’m a big believer in preamp being half of a speaker system.
-
Mutec mc-3+ USB interface: Was difficult to appreciate at first since the Wadia 25 DAC was literally unusable without the mutec. But I’ve noticed the biggest jump in audio quality from switching the phone connected to the music used to play music. It made the Wadia sound levels above after just switching the smartphone I used as the music transport. Both using the USB Audio player mind you. After hearing that, I thought to myself that the Mutec must be doing wonders for the Wadia 25.
Cables: Almost exclusively Audioquest cables, interconnects etc.
All of this is inside the best sounding room I have heard, my sister’s room . Don’t worry, she dosent live here anymore, but a combination of the carpet, the almost exclusively wooden furniture, the spacing from the walls to the speakers, the massive padded bears, chair, foot rest in the room, book shelf filled with books. It strikes the perfect balance of a lively room without adding too many negative sonic aspects.
Last but not least my statues: at the top of the the audio rack is Siddhartha Gautama, my best friend statue keeping peace. A 5 foot statue at the side of a speaker also keeping the mood lively and around 3 more statues on top of the bookshelf.
You’ve reminded me that I need to get a case for my P6P still, mine never came with one
RIIIIP. U Def need one bro. I’m a big believer in the case making the cellphone, the tablet and the Dap. Lol. It’s one of the 12 rules of life. Having a case for your gear is right under loving your parents, but in top of being kind to others.
Also might have offered some protection pre coffee-incident.
Nice setup, you are indeed a ‘hype boy’. haha
Now I’m curious what the song sounds like
BRO, U GOTTA CHECK IT OUT. Disclaimer: The following track, is K-Pop
SO FUCKING HYPE ON THIS TRACK, ON THIS GROUP. ON THIS MINI ALBUM. Don’t ask me much about the music video, I don’t quite understand it myself.
That’s true, although it’s a bit late now after two coffee incidents
been looping this album tonight too lol
There can always be a third lol. And the third one will try to fully wipe out the remaining functionality.
LETS GOOOOOOO hahaha. Seriously tho, really solid mini album. And I was talking to mon about this, bought it on Qobuz download store (as I do most of my music). 4 song mini album, all awesome tracks. 3.99 USD… THREE NINETY-NINE. Easily the best 4 bucks i’ve spend on my life.
Latest setup looks fantastic! And when the sound brings “bliss”, you really are doing something special. I also really like that it’s a lot of less common / unique gear you are using.
Haven’t seen Buddha’s real name in like 15+ years lol
Thank you very much! Appreciate it.
Yes, it’s something I noticed along the way. Wasn’t really on purpose (with the exception of the Wadia purchase which came out of the thought of it being fun to get a vintage dac for my vintage headphone, OG Sennheiser HD600. But besides that every other component was more of a product of opportunity/necessity. As a big portables/Transportables person the WA8/P6P just made alot of sense. Not to mention that they naturally gravitate to my preferred sonic characters, in particular the pure focus of organicness and mid focus. That’s where the OG HD600 also came in, with its utter focus of mids. Funnily enough I’ve now owned more R2R dacs than the other architectures lol and have enjoyed what they offer in sound. The WA8 isn’t there because I’m a big tube fanboi but I do happen to have a preference for headphones that generally perform well on tubes.
The Mutec has been awesome for upgrading my digital, which has been awesome because 100% of my music is digital.
All parts of my chain where things that coincidentally came together because of a mix of budget, sound preferance and usability. It ended up being a weird mix of old and new gear. Ranging from 26 years old to stuff produced this year.
I’m a man of culture
Dunno if this belongs here, but seriously considering canceling my Spotify sub for Qobuz b/c it’s the only player that actually fits in my glorified rear-view car mirror of a monitor.
Holy crap! Is that five feet wide or really really tiny?
