I can’t believe I’m just finding this now. Recently discovered Mateus, and just yesterday stumbled upon this. In my opinion, one of the greatest guitar pieces I’ve ever heard. Putting this on my list of things to attempt to learn for sure. Loved it so much, I’ve been telling everyone at work and home “give this one minute of your time, please”.

I really enjoy this live version of Daughters. The audience interactions really place the listener “there”.

I have been addicted to Reel Big Fish the last couple of weeks. I’ve always loved them, ever since first seeing the video for “Sell Out” back in 1996 when I was 12. Never got into any other ska-punk bands. I’ve tried, but none of them get me like RBF. Their hooks are so fucking infectious, with incredible walking bass lines in every single song, and the lyrics are often extremely dark, sarcastic, and self-deprecating which is always in start-contrast to the generally upbeat, and happy-sounding music behind them.

Their original drummer, Andrew Gonzales, is fucking amazing. It’s such a shame he quit in 1999.

Their live album, Our Live Album is Better Than Your Live Album is truly one of the best live albums I’ve heard, bootleg or official.

Anyway, here are some favorites from the first two records and live:

“Sell Out”

“Everything Sucks”

“Alternative, Baby”

“Somebody Hates Me”

“Down in Flames”

“The Kids Don’t Like It/In the Pit”

“Good Thing”

“Your Guts (I Hate 'em)”

“Good Thing” and “Your Guts (I Hate 'em)” flow right into one another, so it’s kind of weird they’re not a single track like “The Kids Don’t Like It/In the Pit”, but regardless, it’s the perfect 1-2 punch: first song about being in a great place in a relationship and how quickly things turn into a terrible breakup and the aftermath (“Your Guts”).

I know ska isn’t for everyone, but these guys are something special.

A good way to check out Caribou today for name your price money on Bandcamp. Bowls on the Album Swim is one of the test tracks I use as it’s got a ton of organic texture.

Today also is a Bandcamp friday.

Unrelated or potentially unrelateable… either way, now I got this bit from a Wings tune filling my head

" Band on the Run, Band on the Ruu’un … "

Great song.

I know there isn’t a lot of or any modern hip hop fans here, but this is one of the coldest diss track I ever listened to. You can really feel the emotion and hatred Kendrick really have and I think he displayed his emotion perfectly in this track. The beat and Kendrick verses really goes perfectly with each other. The phrase “the pen is mightier than the sword” hold so true in this because I can really feel how sharp his words feel in this track and how deep it really cut. Man, Kendrick really is probably the best modern rapper of this generation.

This is music history

While there are 3 other club friendlier upbeat diss tracks from k dot, meet the grahams really does something for hip hop that hasnt been done before, both musically and stylistically in the battle rap subgenre

Emilie is a Juno award winner and has been a favorite of mine for quite a while.
Fun to see this live, club performance.
I also Really like this song done by Marilyn Scott, which has a bit different
feel and some interesting backup vocals as well.

There are very few good tribute albums, and this certainly isn’t one of them.
I had to listen to this one just based on who it features, and I have a soft spot for Iron Maiden, I think Wasted Years was one of the very first tracks I taught myself to play on electric guitar.
