Ahhh yesss, let the hd 6 series lore take you in.
Got a aimilar post for 580s or he60? Tbh i think 580 have cemented that i need to buy he60. Now just to find am he90 under 20k…
Used to be able to find the entire headphone and amp package under 20k, 15 even, now prices are just absurd, look at r10s and how stupid expensive those have gotten
I seriously wish they were even somehwat normal. I had the whole kit offered to me at 20 a while back but didnt want to drop thatuch at the time. Hearing the 600 and 580 and knowing how good he60 are though i realy want to hear a set now…
New pads and took the grills off
Honestly, both made prety shocking changes to the sound. The new pads smoothed out the mids while colapsinf stage in a bit and taking grills off noticably improved detail gave a bit more natural of a staging (not much bigger but much better used). Tbh i am realy impressed by these things
My HE6 is actually a financial investment
Seems to be how discontinued products go.
A reminder to clean your hd6##. When you pop the pads off you see where all those skin oils collect. Or I am just a greasy italian.
Guidophile.
Rofl. Yah, cant say ive had that issue. Pads getting nasty? Sure. Not not cans through the pads
It always collects on the outside rim where the pads snap in. Between the pad and the plastic lip. Maybe i AM that oily…
You might benefit from using some sulfate free soap and shampoo. Sodium laureth sulfate is a highly effective but corrosive ingredient in most soaps but it is not kind to the skin as it strips it of the protective sebaceous oil coating. It is also the agent added to soaps to make them satisfyingly foam. People with dry skin get drier skin and people with oily skin can sometimes find their skin produces extra sebaceous oils to compensate. The is fine for the soap companies as they can then sell us moisturisers and conditioners to fix the damage.
I qualified as a makeup artist a few years ago and the science of skin products is some crazy interesting stuff with a huge amount of BS added in at the consumer end. It was fascinating learning from professionals instead of product advertising and packets.
Yes, this. For some of us oily people its like your skin isnt oily its just sitting there and the skin under is dry and flaking.
As my beard grew and head hair shortened i switched to more beard products, which do a better job at not stripping away all the needed oils or replaces them a bit more gentle. I also went away from face washes that get you squeeky clean taught skin and those that “preserve the moisture barrier” but sometimes make you feel still oily.
In the end I still think the hd6## pads absorb a ton of skin oils. After 5 years of 3+ hours daily, i think they absorbed enough that it started to rub off and deposit on the inside of the pad lip.
That would do it yes
So I’ve had HD580 for a while now and with my susvara and energizer both out on loan they are what’s been getting the most ear time recently (on P6P → AIC-10). Ive got to say, they really do an excellent job at giving a complete sound. Like shockingly so. While obviously I know what I am missing compared to higher tier stuff it shocking just how little of a hint there is that more even exists while using 580s.
Onto the sound as a whole. TBH, to my ear, these sound a lot like midfi susvara. I know this sounds crazy (@krack has been telling me it is for weeks) but stick with me for a second. The tonality is obviously fairly close to sus but that’s not what does it for me. Instead it’s the presentation that truly makes me feel that way. While smaller in stage, obviously far less detailed with less distinct images, as a whole. I feel like the can places images within space in the same manor susvara does. As in, its just incredibly, incredibly organic and coherent. Now I am certain that my chain is pulling a lot of weight here, but just even that it gets to the point I’m hearing it at is incredible IMO. Combine this coherency with the fact that 580 somehow doesn’t even really hint at anything being missing and I do see the where the love comes from.
What I don’t understand however are the infinite scaling memes. Yes, these do fully scale up to my AIC-10, but lets go back to what I said earlier. They sound like mid-fi susvara. The people putting these things on deep 5 figure chains just don’t make sense to me. You’re running wavelight → old EC/DNA/cavalli/etc? Yah, I can totally see 580 being a good stopping point as Sus needs a bit of help and those amps just wont run it. But you are running if on WD XLR Sig → Studio T with maxxed out tubes (a chain I know of a few people using for 580 as a main can)? Well then we just go back to how I started this comment. What makes 580 so excellent is also what makes sus so excellent, but on a much higher level. If you are running a chain like above, I have no idea why you wouldn’t just build a sus chain tbh. Like you like HD800S/HD600/etc? Sure, I get it. Its tough to find other higher tier options that feel like a direct step up, but 580 has an obvious one that isn’t even hard to track down.
IDK, overall I’m left with pretty mixed feelings. On one hand 580 will be entering my recommendation pool <$500 and TBH ill probably keep a set on hand for the foreseeable future. On the other, the SBAF/discord meme chains make even less sense to me now. Maybe this is just because I haven’t heard how excellent vintage EC/DNA is and those not being able to run sus limits options, but idk. I guess that’s an issue to tackle another day (when I can finaly have exposed tubes and massive amps in my main chain)
It is pretty crazy how they scale. I quite enjoy both the HD600 and R70x on the Berkeley Alpha Ref > Crayon CHA-1 chain.
THE SENNHEISER 600 OG IS SOOOOOOOOO FUCKING AMAZING
ITS 2:55AM AND IM JUST LIKE, THERE’S NOTHING ELSE I’D RATHER BE DOING RN THAN LISTENING TO IT. I WOULDN’T EVEN BE DEEP INSIDE SOME CHICK RN OVER LISTENING TO THIS HEADPHONE. Here’s the thing it’s such an obvious step up in midrange detail over anything I’ve heard including my VC. It’s nuts also the Soundstage is actually decently wide in comparison to the newer 600 model (to my memory). Although I’d rather hold off on saying anything about the newer model since I didn’t consider it but it’s possible it was different because it wasn’t fully broken in. Either way, the 600 is such a unique sounding headphone with such an intimate forward sound without being too claustrophobic, it really is as close as you can get to the singer without sweetening it up either. The bass on it is in the lighter side for sure, but it’s workable. Like it’s got enough punch to not make me kind of just give up on a session, although I haven’t heard hip hop in it yet. So far I’ve heard everything else except hip hop lol. Treble on it is awesome too btw!
Great you enjoying them. I have only new hd600 and those are super nice for the money on the right amp.
In addition, should we expect these for sale in next 24 hours?
Yeah I can’t say I can comment on the new ones because I lm not sure what the difference would be with the whole break in thing. But the new ones were awesome too, I remember that
Don’t think they are in production anymore lol
I meant the one that you just bought lol
