The tubes are what does the actual work, the rest is just to enable it to work its magic
Can’t believe it’s only been 9 days since I got these on loan. Feels like they are something I’ve always had for some reason lol. Just vibes with me real frickin well. The headphones themselves are probably more broken in now since I’ve put solid time on them, from listening to some free afternoons to waking up early before work to just vibe. I guess it dosent come as a surprise but I’ve just been really vibing with them for vocal music, which makes up like half of my library. It dosent have like the I guess micro detail of other headphones I’ve used which really accentuate the small stuff, but it just brings you very close to the music. In a way that not many headphones have done, the last one that really felt like it did this was the LCD2pf, which was also awesome and probably my favorite headphone after this one tbh.
Everything that I care about is done at a very very respectable level with this headphone. Bass is great and fun sounding while even digging deep enough to where I don’t feel sad about its extension, treble is Def not sparkly lol. Opposite of that but Idgaf. It’s very forgiving for all music which is Def a plus because alot of my music can easily be sizzly through most gear. It’s staging is very interesting to me, it’s hard to explain it so I won’t even try but I really really like it. Mids are sooooooooo goooooood.
Everything about it is just very noice. I did try it out on the sr25 Dap I have and it sounded great too but the crack did add a fair bit of thickness and color that I appreciate.
I don’t know if there is much more that will change in terms of my opinion on it, but I love it! That’s for sure. I’m sure tho that if I had never found my Andros (@sa11297 thnx UwU) and only had headphones I probably would still use something like the LSA or lcd instead because of their technical aspects however with my setup these feel just right.
Edit : even pop is fun af lol. Just a nice ass headphone
Had to buy another 6XX pair since my original purchase was a massive disservice to it (ran off mobo ). Still have the QS in house, so that should be nice.
TIL People dig waaaaaay deeper into the varrients of these than I even thought possible…
That’s pretty intense lol. Certainly going hard on the differences
See when I was asking about any major HD800s revisions, there is always something like that that makes you second guess something. But it looks like even they say differences are all minute, which imho, is what you want.
Just dont go on discord where the shade of the gasket determines if its the best can ever made or trash not even worth trying to sell
Looks like ZMF is now making aftermarket earpads for the HD600-series headphones, might be fun to try out:
https://shop.zmfheadphones.com/collections/pads/products/zmf-hd6xx-earpads
So I wasn’t the only one changing pad on them?!?!? The Dekoni I wound up keeping were the perf lambskin as well.
If the suede ones last longer than stock then maybe they have something there. But for $40, the stock ones hit juuuust right, and are comfy and breathable.
You should ask Zack to make pads for the HD800s since that’s where the demand is apparently!
:scratches chin: you know, you goof, but maybe. Honestly maybe I should trade him the idea for a pair. I bet that the plastic part that snaps in is proprietary or something.
All great ideas start as a goof.
I’m not up on my HD600 lore—are the older versions actually supposed to be better somehow, or is it just that people like the color? 'Cause yeah, a brand new HD600 made today goes for $300.
Did the early Senn boxes not have an embossed senn logo on the actual hinged headphone box?
I have it on watch as I always wanted to compare the 600 & 650. I wonder if anyone will tell him 2014 isnt that early.
Just curious as I just got a brand new HD600 in the other day. How much time should I expect for burn in with these?
Finally got around to trying the ZMF replacement pads on my HD600. (I bought the perf lambskin because of course.)
My initial impression is that the pad-swapped headphone seems more forward/in-your-face/aggressive and it also seems faster/more detailed to me, though that could just be the forwardness creating that impression. Or I guess that could also be caused by the change in the front-damping material. The imaging/staging doesn’t seem better or worse, but it feels like the sound is in a bigger space if that makes sense?
For the first song or two, I definitely preferred the stock pads, but these are growing on me the more and more I listen to them. Either way, the ZMF pads aren’t a 1-to-1 swap, they do sound different to me, so yeah, your mileage will vary!
EDIT:
I guess I should mention that the chain I’m testing on is Bifrost 2 → Quicksilver → recent model HD600.
Also, the size of the pads isn’t /that/ different, but it definitely feels like there’s more space for my ears in the stock pads, the ZMF pads feel noticeably smaller to me.
Eskamobob1’s post just reminded me, I did end up finding some lore on this one. In case other friends were also confused like me, early models of the HD600 had a black silk acoustic screen and current models of the HD600/HD650 have a silver mesh screen instead.
It goes way way deeper than that too if uou want to get seriously into it
I mean, I’m not personally interested in chasing them down myself, but it’s fun to learn about. If you pointed me to some resources, I’d almost certainly enjoy reading about all the minute changes that Sennheiser has made to the HD 600-series over the years.
