Or the umpteen Aurender server/streamers.
As a previous OG owner, I would perceive the MIL/LIM as a downgrade. The price itself should be confirmation of that as no company would give you a better product for less money.

Can you guys help me identify which version of the Gumby is mine based on this picture? Also, looks like it does not have an Unison USB, right?
A2/Gen5 USB I think
A2 is supposed to be the warmer one, right?
No itās the opposite for Yggy and Gumby, A2 basically swapped the signatures.
Gumby A2 has better treble extension, loses some Bass dynamics.
Yggy A2 is like a super BF2.
Assuming I remember correctly.
I bought my Yggy OG new about 6 months ago, and I donāt feel particularly ripped off or whatever other analogy you can think of⦠It might be nice if Schiit offered a lower upgrade price for buyers in the last year, but I doubt this is a real money maker for them as it is. It sounds like a fair amount of work to move all the boards over, update the ROM, test the whole thing out, and put everything back together. Plus the new case cost is not zero $ā¦
For me the NOS and remote āadvantagesā are not especially worthwhile or must have features.
Iāll upgrade the whole thing when thereās an actual internal upgrade that seems compelling. Until then, Iām contentā¦
Dang, bass dynamics is my priority in every part of my chain
I have a HYPSOS + OOR + 1266 here, just to give you an idea on how much i like my bass slam, hahaha.
Yggy + Hypsos/OOR sounds pretty great with awesome dynamics. I did not have the OOR stack or Yggy when I had a 1266 tc in the house but I imagine that they would be a pretty sweet pairing.
I bet
I feel the same about Yggy + Burson Soloist GT. Itās a pretty great combo, and I love it with Rosson RAD-0 and Atrium. Both headphones sound pretty stellar with this pairing!
is there anything special about the yggy+?
I believe itās a more compact chassis with better modularity. Other than that, itās the same DAC module offerings as before.
I wonder if theyāve improved upon the analog outputs, but I havenāt seen anything yet regarding changes in sound quality.
Yggy+ also has a remote for switching inputs and phase, plus NOS for those who want to try it. Supposedly everything else is the same for now as with the original model.
Modi Multibit 2 arrived today. Cute little DAC!
A little surprising that it doesnāt include a USB cable.
First quick impressions (via BHC with HD6xx), similar āfunā tuning as the BF2 but with reduced soundstage and reduced detail retrieval. But just a quick first impression. Need to let it burn in a bit and listen on different headphones/ampsā¦
Thereās the little fella!
It should make a decent pairing with the Piety I see lurking in the background.
Report back after a decent burn-in, curious what you think. Your initial impression sounds right, but time will tell.
I leave my Schiit on 24/7, pretty much. Especially the DACs. (fwiw)
I changed my test setup to better A/B with the BF2, using my HPA V550 since it has two RCA inputs:
Iāve let the MM2 run for the last 12 hours to burn in.
Both BF2 and MM2 are being sourced via USB from the same Raspberry Pi. Playing from Roon, both USB output are linked (playing the same music at the same time). This letās me do quick A/B switching between the two.
BF2 is using basic power cable. Both RCAās are simple Worlds Best Cables.
After some listening tests this morning, the two sound VERY close. More testing to do today. But this is very interestingā¦
Burn-in has helped, but Iām definitely still hearing a difference in soundstage. The BF2 is just more relaxed, spread out, and layered. The MM2 isnāt bad, but a/b comparing itās clear that the BF2 pulls ahead in spacial presentation. But regarding tonality and tambre, to me they sound very close. Maybe a little more mid-forward in the MM2, but not by much. BF2 is also eaking out a bit more detail retrieval. Again, not huge, but itās there. Especially listening closely to bass texture and cymbal crash decay, the MM2 falls a little behind.
Overall, this is shaping up to be a solid $300 DAC.
What cable are using for USB A to USB C on the MM2?
I havenāt investigated decent options for that, seems much more challenging than A to B, which has tons of optionsā¦
Yeah, I donāt have any good USB c cables. All of my audio USB cables are type B.
Iām using this cable from Monoprice:
I discovered Audio Quest makes A to C cables; not a huge fan personally, but they do make them fwiw in a range of product. Didnāt check pricesā¦
