They raised the MSRP by $200.

Just bought one for $380, no box and a chihuahua chewed up PS but that’s okay, everything else looked clean.

Joining the RNHP gang, they’re small and will fit the chain I’m committing to for my desktop.

It’s still my favorite SS amp that I’ve heard.

What are the more popular synergistic HP pairings with it?

The common one is the Bifrost. It’s such a transparent amp, but it does tend to have a narrow presentation. Anything with a more open soundstage is helpful in that regards.

XLR seems to be a little bit better than RCA (slightly sharper, and more refined) so a balanced input is nice.

Overall I’d say it’s a natural, holographic sounding amp that has a surprising level of transparency, and detail.

Th only amp that I’ve enjoyed more with a similar character (transparency, and holographic soundstage) is the LTA MZ3, and that’s a significantly more expensive amp.

Edit: just realized you asked about headphone. :man_facepalming:t4:

I like low impedance, efficient planars with it. The Focal Clear was a popular pairing, and Fostex are also excellent with it.

I’d say things like the clear and potentially utopia, lcd x and xc (potentially new mm500 but no clue there), th900/909, kennerton gh50, adx5k is pretty good actually same with awas, the t1 gen 2 pairs well although you need to crank it a bit, d8000 pro surprisingly good, ps2000e were actually enjoyable, hd800s is pretty solid too.

In terms of pairings that I thought were misses, I didn’t like most hifiman, the older audeze aren’t the best, the high impedance beyers can be good but might be a bit too hot with the combo, abyss stuff was a no, honestly the senn 6 series wasn’t to my preference on there but some might like it, didn’t think DCA was good on it, zmf were just meh on it, didn’t like higher end sonys on it

Thanks guys, I see there’s a good bit of flexibility, so I’m covered. Worst case scenario would be the D8K which is probably not a bad place to be. I may wind up having to go fish for a BF2 again! lol

Why oh why did I get rid of it? lol

I can vouch for the X and hd800s. It may not be an endgame 800s amp but it helps round the can out a bit more, and it still has that natural easy going nature. Which is surprising as i thought it would be too much for the amp.

This is also from using it with the hd6xx, which that pairing just felt flat and really just ill-powered.

Also the PF audeze where left way too dark and thick.

Both the 600 and 650 sound pretty flat on the neve I’d agree, great for studio work I guess but not really engaging for listening

Given the list you put together @M0N the good pairings are somewhat all over the place. If it worked with an 800s you’d think it would work with the HD600 series, there are some planar and some dynamic and at a high level it’s not clear to me why. Goes to show how complex and non linear predicting synergy can be I guess.

Yeah the neve is more on the hit or miss side of things lol. That being said, the 800s and 6 series are very different from each other with different demands paring wise, so imo not that surprising

I’m being simple, both Senn, both 300 ohm, simple right? Guess not. lol

Tbh, I had the BF2 OG + RNHP and everything sounded good to excellent with it.
The synergy was wonderful.
I used the stack with dt900 pro x, hifiman he5xx, tygr 300r, t1.2nd, and some others. All of them sound amazing. I miss my RNHP (sold it after getting the soloists 3xp).
I dont like my current setup BF2 + 3xp as much as I did the RNHP.

The HD660s works well on it. I think because they have beefier low end. To me the RNHP is something that will not be kind to a headphone that doesn’t extend well into bass or treble. My feeling is it’s not going to pretend for you so the headphones have to bring it themselves.

[Edit] Also the 660s are 150ohm too which helps.

My favorites

T1.2
Clear og and mg
LCD X and XC
ATH a1000z, wp900, ap2000ti, r70x
Akg k702
shure srh1840

I wanted to do the same and it would have been a major mistake for the hps I have, I still got more favorable matchups with the rnhp than the soloist

Now it will be a permanent in my collection, its a classic for me now and hard to replicate

I’ve had the RNHP for 9 days now. Whether it makes a difference or not, my good bud @NickMimi hooked me up with an ifi Elite 24v power supply for it.

This little amp is actually VERY impressive. I have to say the BF2 > RNHP > D8K Pro is a very capable, chain. Plenty of slam, plenty of detail and technicality with just the right signature for late night jams when you feel like pumping up the volume.

I dare say it’s as fun a pairing as the BHC/SB with the HD600 but at an elevated technical level. Committing myself to 2-CH and having heard/experienced much more expensive and much more capable chains this is a great end game for my desktop.

I would have loved to use the Mojo V2 SE instead of the BF2, but the RNHP just doesn’t sound as good. Whether it’s a pairing thing or just the fact that it suffers too much from the single ended output of the Mojo I don’t know.

I do not however want to sell the Mojo, at least not now as I have decided that I won’t be keeping the Weiss 502 and will make it a point to find a Mojo EVO Pro 21 eventually. But for now I’m really feeling like the desktop is where I’m just happy with everything and the 2-CH is perfect, but just looking to change the signature but do not want to take a step back from the Weiss.

What am I going to do when I run out of things to buy and sell? lol

Anyway, back to the RNHP, for the price the only ā€œbetterā€ SS amp I’ve heard is the Pass HPA-1. I’m in love with it, everything it does and how it does it. You do need to feed it balanced though.

It’s one of my all-time favorite amps.

Glad you’re enjoying it.

Regarding the iFi PSU; in my experience it cleans it up a bit and made it even more punchy (which isn’t really necessary with the RNHP). This was a case where it could go either way on which is better, but it definitely changes some of its character, imo.

Cheers.

The way it sounds now, I’m actually preferring it to the Bryston, it feels more capable more grip better control and immediacy to the presentation which is great for the kind of music I listen to at the desktop.

When you nail the synergy for it, it truly shines lol, and it has a level of refinement, balance, and presentation that really is above it’s price class

I’m feeding a pair of cans I paid $2800 for, with an amp I paid $380 for. And it sounds great. lol

I’m keeping it on! The punch is impressive and is what makes it feel a little BHC/SB with the HD600 but with the organics and increased detail of the D8K Pro. Turned out to be a good little chain this and it’s all in less that 1 square foot of real estate.
