Roon Runners Corner

Has anyone got one of the new roon nucleus one servers yet? Since it is actually available now.

I’m thinking about getting one, looking for any feedback or impressions.

I have the Nucleus (not the ONE). I have had it for a year and it works great! Also using Roon Arc when not at home and have had no problems after upping to fiber for internet. I added a 2tb drive to it for extra storage. Fiber internet + Router to Nucleus then USB out to my Rockna Wavelight then to my Bryston and Quicksilver. I have found 0 problems with the Nucleus at all

It would be very interesting to try, but looking at pictures of the insides, it’s not that impressive. I think I would take my NUC built in a fan less case over it. But just my 2c.

Yeah I get it. I’m mostly considering it for the turn key aspect, I’m not really trying to deal with building my own and set up and all that jazz, I could do it but I’m lazy and would rather just buy something that works without hassle

I need to find it but you can probably buy my NUC if you’d like. Already set up with ROCK in a fanless case

Definitely interested, especially if i can save some money lol

Just let me know, no rush

Here’s a Roon annoyance.

This album was released today, is actually available right now on Qobuz, but Roon still shows unavailable.
I can actually even play the album in Roon through the Qobuz tab.
I assume their metadata is just out of date

EDIT - and an hour later it’s resolved, I guess they must crawl the metadata daily, rather than use some sort of event driven protocol.

Some new roon features incoming

Looks pretty useful actually.

Started fooling around with the Lumin U2 now that it’s fully broken in and I’m using oversampling for 16/44 files. Bringing them up to 24/88. It is minimal but surprisingly there is some tangible gain. Primarily in the spacial queues. Just a bit more convincing dimentionality.

I’m not very versed on the Roon MUSE functionality but it’s being reported back to Roon that the streamer is upsampling even though Roon’s MUSE functionality is not doing the upsampling.

I don’t have a USB-capable DAC anymore…can anyone confirm that a RPi4 w/Pi2AES HAT can work with a USB DAC in Roon? I am 99% sure it can and I used my HiFiMan R2R2000 red this exact way in DAC-only mode, but I can’t remember now and have no way to test.

EDIT: I should’ve clicked a few more results in Google before posting. Just found this thread which confirms it does work this way. Booya.

That’s what I use as one of my Roon endpoints.

YES! Thank you for also confirming. @dB_Cooper what do you use to purify your signal?

The only issue is that you can’t use AES and USB at the same time on all the OS’ I’ve tried. You have to change the output configuration to swap.

That’s good to know, but thankfully won’t be a problem if this plan goes through!

OPRA is AWESOME! I’ve been trying out a few different profiles for the JVC HA-FDX1 and love 2 of the 5 presets provided for the Green filter. I thought they sounded fantastic before this, but the changes, though slight, elevate the IEMs to a whole new level. The clarity is incredible.

This is such an awesome addition to Roon. I’m excited to try out some settings for the Clear and Eikon now, too.

I don’t know, I’ve tried it.
And I’m rather disappointed.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong, but my Atrium open with the setting that’s available sounds really dull, not even close to an Atrium ioen.
I looked at the curve and I can see that the Eq setting is in the negative.
I find that strange.
I have also activated crossfeed as recommended but it has not improved.
At the moment I’m rather disappointed.
Lcd 2 sounds about what I remember with the Atrium Open but also muffled, even the Auteur setting doesn’t sound like an Auteur with the Atrium open.

When EQing the best practice is to take away not add. I’m going to try out the Opra now and see. First thing that’s laughable is that there are two curves available for my cans but they’re exactly the same. This is going to be really messy and a poor user experience if not monitored.

Could you elaborate on what you’re trying to do here? Are you trying to get the Atrium to sound like different headphones or am I just reading this wrong?

You read that right.
The Lcd 2 actually has this signature with the Eq setting, even though it goes via the Atrium open.
The planar driver is certainly still missing at the end.
I have tried the Auteur and HD800 setting.
It doesn’t sound anything like either of them.
I still have the Auteur Og which definitely sounds better without EQ than with the Auter setting with the Atrium open.
As I said, if I select the Atrium open with Auteur Lambskin pads, it sounds really bad. At the moment I don’t understand the point of the function.
I realise that it doesn’t sound the same as the headphones you have selected and that probably won’t work.
I actually expected the setting to be better here and there, but not worse.
