It’ probably nothing to do with what machine your running on or Linux vs Windows. It’s a .net app, so it likely runs better on Windows than Linux.
Unless your doing significant processing (upsampling filters) It uses close to 0 CPU time, so power of the machine in question is irrelevant.
They’ve had ongoing issues with memory leaks, but the current build will sit just under 1GB used on my machine.
This is usually a bad internet connection.
It also causes massive pauses in the interface, even if your playing local content.
Yep i thought a laptop would work fine exactly for that reason, it makes no sense that i would need specific hardware to run Roon Cor.
I have a fiber internet modem directly connected to that machine via cable, every time i see Roon freezing i go to speedtest and the connection is perfect and fast.
Do you happen to know if Roon keeps logs i can access to find out what caused the freeze?
I absolutely second this sentiment, those guys there are an immense help IF you are capable enough to provide the information they need in order to help you.
Thus my sincere appreciation to those in THIS forum who have helped my technically inept ass out more often than not
I knew 1353 had come in like the proverbial bull in the china shop. Apparently they did f’up things with the new build. I knew it’s been like molasses for me since the latest update.
Restarting the server daily does help (at least with the long pauses and drop outs in songs) but search is still hosed.
You were playing music at 5am and the device can’t back up while its being used? Is the lesson learned to set your back-up for weird times because it won’t work while the system is being used?
I had this happen a few times, especially when I was working from home on a project on the west coast so my work hours were all fucked up. Threw me off the first time I saw it too.
Luckily you can always force a back up at anytime, and hopefully you have it set a few times a week so if one fails you have a recent one to pull from.
Something must be in the air, I have been up until 3 or 4AM since last weekend! Made for a long work week
I recommend periodically browsing your Roon backups to make sure they’re there. Roon was reporting successful backups but the most recent one was many months old. Only after I deleted and re-added the backup job did it start making new backups.
Yes I follow the approach in Roon as if it was a CD transport pushing out 16/44 as I hear a better sound playing CDs vs. playing Flac files.
I prefer Roon for its ease of use and instant access to my local music library. I do not have subscriptions to Qobuz or Tidal as I have Apple Music, and while it doesn’t integrate into Roon it is free and free is good enough to discover so I can buy a CD and rip it.
So call me a purist if that is applicable, could also call me ignorant as that would be equally applicable when it comes to using DSP in Roon
I was in the purist camp as well but when trying some minor tweaks with Roon on the 2-channel I just couldn’t hear any negative effect and the positive was a nice full bass, not to much, just right, that extends deep. Empirical evidence won from OCD I guess…
Some things I learned:
There were cases when I did hear some negative effect from the DSP in Roon. Not sure what’s going on but when applying a lot of DSP I guess there is more computing noise maybe so keeping the DSP changes to a minimal is a base rule with my EQ.
The ‘headroom management’ in Roon sucks and I could hear negative effect from that as well. To create headroom I dropped the full FR with 3db in ‘Parametric EQ’, from this zero negative effect and room to create some changes without distorting.
Nice to hear that they want to get back to focusing on their core user base. Hopefully this really does mean better audio quality, better reliability, and better user experience.
And thank god we are finally getting back to not requiring an always on Internet connection! But I can only imagine the number of customer service calls they will get for ARC not working without an Internet connection
Having upgraded this morning, my first impressions of this release is very positive, navigation and playback feel snappy.
But after reading the announcement yesterday I clicked on the upgrade button with my fingers crossed of course. lol Like you nothing negative to report after a wonderful blissful evening of listening.
Gotta say, everything since Harman Kardon came onboard has been on the right trajectory. They’ve focused a lot more on the quality of life and simple enjoyment of the platform and immediately implemented changes on feedback received from the customer survey.
