I had no idea method 1 existed. I wouldn’t trust it though and given all the work I had in the folder hierarchy I put in before I switched to Roon, I also use method 2 always.
I’m probably just a little bit slow…
… but has anyone else used Roon’s CD ripping feature?
I just discovered this a few days ago. It’s only supported with ROCK or Nucleus. But you just plug in an external USB CD drive into the ROCK or Nucleus. It’s then auto detected by the OS and adds it as a drive in the web interface. When you put a CD in it automatically starts ripping it to an internal folder called cd-rips. And makes the resulting ripped albums available for playback.
So far it’s worked really well. A nice additional benefit to using ROCK over other Roon Core options.
Was this one of their recent Roon Master’s email series? I didn’t know but I’ll try it and see what I get with my next CD Rip!
Not that I know of. But at some point I’m sure it will be.
I’ve been on/off thinking about switching to the SGC SonicTransporter with CD drive, because it includes CD ripping capability. And on a whim decided to Google if Roon supports that feature. Sure enough, it does! Saved quit a bit of money with this little discovery.
It’s been around since the big 2.0 upgrade last year, prob one of the least highlighted features, yet most useful for convenience!
I use the ripper on a regular basis. My Nucleus has it built in of course. super easy to use and works well.
Anyone else experiences issues with the latest version of Roon Server?
Looks like it’s leaking memory again, I rarely restart roon server, and I noted it was becoming unresponsive, looking at my server it was using 18GBytes of memory.
Surprised you’re using Server. I switched out of server when I got a dedicated ROCK and put it into a fan less case. The experience improved tremendously. Server was good especially when I connected it to the same switch as my streamer but it would still require a reboot for me at least once a month and then I had the Windows updates to contend with.
I know you’ve mentioned leakage before with Windows but using the full client as a remote/server. Didn’t know it also applied to just the server.
My server is massively over spec’ed 32 GB RAM, i7 CPU, 50+TB’s of disk, passively cooled, and optically isolated, it also acts a a fileserver on my network.
I haven’t had a lot of issues with RoonServer recently, it’s had leaks in the past, using a rock your still running server, just on Linux. And given it’s a dotnet app, I’d expect less issues on Windows.
But I’ve been having responsiveness issues since the last update, it’s probably exacerbated by the amount of memory I have, most Rocks would just crash well below 18GB’s and restart the server.
Interestingly I discovered recently, while most reasonably priced Music Servers run cut down linux’s (likely to save licensing fee), the Taiko extreme is a windows box.
I’m running the dedicated server.
That leak was addressed and this one is an order of magnitude worse from what I can see.
Yeah, no issues on my end of late. The last Roon problem for me was recent time played when it disappeared. My Roon gripe at the moment is ARC, the network connectivity on the mobile client (iOS) sucks balls and I’ve got to reset it once a week at least.
I have not noticed anything unusual but I’ll keep an eye out.
I just noticed something odd in that my recent listening time is zero’d out for that last four weeks, which is not correct.
As roon is contradicting itself by showing me time for some albums I listened to in the past week.
I’ll try rebooting when I’m finished with the set I have playing now and see if it’ll correct itself.
not a biggie just odd.
Edit:
It was just roon being roon did not even reboot the ROCK, just closed the remote and reopened…
Depending on your last update, that was a known issue as of two releases ago, it was fixed since. Reboot and see if it comes back as a reboot or the core would always restore it.
Got a free Roon code that came with something I bought… I don’t use Roon so thought might as well…
Code expires on Dec 31st '23, 60-day sub

No. 3 looks like a zero to me, could be the letter O though
You’re just afraid to use the code yourself.
I don’t want to take the Mojo thread off topic, I am curious how you have your device set up in Roon. Specifically this settings view:
That is of course if you don’t mind.
Sorry to butt in but I remembered that you have a totaldac, I thought Vincent’s manuals said to use a Resync delay of around 2000ms? I have a totaldac as well and mostly the same settings as you except the 2000ms resync delay plus some DSD settings as mine has that module (not that I really ever use that feature though).
I do have a totaldac, these are the settings for the Pi2AES as that is the only device I have with an AES output.
Trying to help @SaberPunch sort through his issue with AES and Mojo+streamer issue as I had a Mojo X in house and used the same Boomslang cable with it and didn’t have any issues. My thinking is it could be a Roon setting vs. the DAC or streamer
That function in Roon is to sync different zones that might be at different distances so the sound would not be timed aligned. So for use when playing multiple Roon zones at the same time.
Ah sorry my bad. Didn’t know the full context and just wanted to make sure my settings were correct.
