Roon Runners Corner

Was that a Roon vulnerability, or a QNAP one, and people just happened to be using them for Roon?

Agreed low popularity is not a guarantee of anything, but Apple survived on it for years, because no one was targeting OSX, until they picked up in popularity again, hell they even advertised it as a feature at one point.

Neither, I’m pretty sure that was a Linux vulnerability and it affected more that just qnap, synology as well was affected among others . Not really anything to do with roon and their security.

Update forced itself tonight. My core went wonky. No music off ROON for me till I can figure this out :triumph:
My turntable is looking might sexy at the moment but that’s a pain in the ass too so Innuos Sense to the rescue. I like having options.
Computer dummies like me require a proper day to dedicate to figuring out stuff like this. It will require me waiting for the weekend :triumph:
I’m jealous of you tech savvy folks.

If you are trying to get your main setup going and trying to ignore ARC, your core should have auto prompted to update and the other half is updating your remote by updating/reinstalling the app.

If it’s more of a problem than that, then I’m sorry.

Yes outside arc configuration and having to update the IPad Roon app, this update was exactly the same for me as all the others.

I thought that was what should have happened. The core just kept “updating” for a half hour w/ nothing else going on so i went and hard booted it. My patience w/ these things is limted. I’m one of those people that will smash a button on the keyboard till it pops off out of abuse…
I know it gets me nowhere but my nerves and anger require the smash.

I have no screen or keyboard access at the moment and i’m too lazy to move it to my desk to see what’s actually going on.

That’s what Remote Desktop is for, haven’t plugged a keyboard or screen into mine since I installed the OS.

There is no problem a 2lb lump hammer can’t solve…. My favorite automotive tool, though often results are suboptimal.

Unfortunately i have no idea what that is nor how to go about it… I know computers have many fancy functions nowadays , I’m unfortunately barely able to use the simple features.
I will look into this remote desktop option at some point soon.

I got some more real world usage time on roon arc today, in two different use cases. The first with my galaxy buds+ TWS from my samsung s21 ultra while doing some random tasks at work that didn’t require me being alert. The second while on lunchbreak using my P6Pro as a bluetooth dac/amp endpoint streaming roon arc from my phone via LDAC.

Both instances worked without any problems and zero hitches or wonkiness. I know a lot of people are having issues with the new update but my personal experience has been flawless. I’m very impressed with just how well it all works once you get it set up.

I know you have a monitor those nice 8" mini ones one of which you gave to me, they’re great and a keyboard & mouse, I know you have those. So lazy must be the only excuse.

No. Roon Server on QNAP devices was specifically targeted. Synology and Linux/ROCK were not affected. When this happened I was debating moving my Roon Core from a Synology NAS to QNAP and scratched that option.

Yes, i’m being lazy but also for some reason the screen isn’t actually showing me anything. I plugged up the peripherals and got no response so I hard booted and still got nothing. I’ll play w/ it when I have more time, im sure it’s nothing. User error is common in my household

I’m going to go with you’re plugged into the wrong port for the video. Even if the computer is hosed restarting it should show you something in the display when you restart it.

I played around a little with playing downloaded files with Roon ARC and no Core connection. Worked. Even scrobbled my tracks when I got home. That’s a win.

Ha, @dB_Cooper it works! The ROON is operational again! Your power over magic and mumbo jumbo is incredible even over Vast distances :star: :star: :star:

@dB_Cooper so the real question is, are you really tech savvy or is nick just really tech illiterate, even though he has self admitted lol!

He started w/ the master moves, “power that bitch down at the wall stupid!” I truly am THAT tech illiterate :face_with_peeking_eye:

I don’t quibble with details, it’s results that matter. lol

Finally got a chance to enable ARC tonight, and no issues getting it running. Just had to forward the 55000 port.

Installed app on Hiby RS6. It plays 44.1 and 48kHz without sample rate conversion. But for some reason down samples 88.2, 96, etc… to 44.1 or 48. Hopefully just a bug that gets fixed, as regular Roon doesn’t down sample on Hiby.
