A thread for equipment from the custom builder Radu Tarta. https://simplepleasuretubeamps.com/
Oddly enough this is reminding me of the taboo a lot. Same first impressions where warming up it sounded extremely promising with the 24s sitting on the desk, but putting them on i feel the big mid emphasis. It is not as pushy and dense as the taboo, but maybe more meaty and thick.
But that is 1 headphone, for about 15 minutes so far. Lets see where this goes.
The amp itself is beautiful. The walnut used glows and the carpentry, while not the fanciest, is very solid. The 5 transformers, their weight, and the high end components really feel premium.
@Polygonhell i know you may not dive the deepest technically but i feel you would appreciate the wrap sheet End-game DHT Headphone Amp | simplepleasuretubeamps
CLCLC filtering, everything has a transformer, pretty high end parts, zero hum or noise, continuing our discussion from the eddie current thread this looks to be DC and not AC.
Interested in what you think of it.
Im thinking right now these psvane ACMEs are still opening up. I know the owner did not put too many hours on it.
I should also add that i think im hearing what you mean by the dht immediacy.
I should also note i did turn off my dac the past few days since i had no amp. Whoops. Itll be about 3 or so days for it to be back to optimal, but most of the warm up is done after the first day or so.
I dont know how better to describe that immediacy besides this:
When playing newer multiplayer video games there always seems to be a little lag, or a little something, that makes it feel a tiny bit disconnected or behind or not as responsive.
This feel like playing older simpler games where less is being transmitted and things feel more immediate and responsive. Like its looser and more free, like its battling less of the game netcode and is more …immediate. lol. Also i dont care what anyone says that old id engine netcode (Q3) had special sauce that only Carmack knows the secret of.
@Souldriver look what he posted this morning
not gonna lie that is a beautiful amp
The gentleman who is loaning it will be away from his house for a bit so it should overlap the Studio getting here, and hopefully a WE300B loaner.
In the end the amp was great but fell short in what i need for treble. A great, airy, spacious, easy going easy flowing listen. There will be things i will miss about it, more so than other amps, but the good news is its finding a new home in the community.
Ill comment more once they get it and write something here. I do not want to taint their opinion or listening impressions.
sorry that other thread went sideways and turned into a show…
I do look forward to your take on that amp if you ever get a chance to demo it. Could be a very special piece of gear.
Im not sure what point the guy wanted to make posting those comments after it sold. Is it the most meticulous build ive ever seen? No. But its far from sloppy or anything i would question reliability on. Its very overbuilt, and unlike some other highly praised amps, no screws wiggled free in shipping.
What sucker did you pawn that boat anchor on?
Must have been someone that simply couldn’t help themselves buying component befitting the island of misfit audio toys?
Oh man, they deleted some posts there as well. I guess me saying the following was too much…
*"I am not sure what you mean by that. It’s not the fanciest but everything was overbuilt and done very well. The components are super premium, with only the handwritten connector labels on the back (but tbh they have the hand built charm). The wood is one of the best non figured pieces of walnut ive seen.
Radu posted more pictures of the inside as well and its good work. End-game DHT Headphone Amp | simplepleasuretubeamps
It’s 60lbs is all quality.
While i do agree one is more organized than the other internally, i wouldnt say it is sloppy. Also the builds are both very different with their layouts and use of boards.*
In the end i am happy and can agree to disagree on this one as i feel a very good amp fell into my hands."
I threw in a free pizza and they couldnt resist. And it may be heavy enough to affect gas milage.
But in the end i think this is similar to your switch from weiss to mojo. You can tell 100% how great it is but im more interested in something that fits my tastes more and keeps me wanting to listen. The Shiny and Studio B are close and i have a bit to say about both and comparisons. But I dont want to put it down yet as i feel the newest owner will have enough to say.
We like what we like. That pizza better at least have onions and peppers on it!
I think we have very very similar audio preferences but couldn’t be farther apart in pizza toppings lol
