Radu Tarta Thread, Shiny Eyes / Simple Pleasure / Custom Builds

:man_shrugging:

Some people just like to troll or piss in others cheerios. Iā€™ve seen that guy around in many threads and he always seemed helpful so something must have rubbed him the wrong way.

I think with some people when there is a classified that they want but canā€™t afford it or donā€™t get it they just are jealous or angry for the people that did. Iā€™m always happy for others when they sell a product and it goes to a new home so I guess just a perspective shift.

Anyway Iā€™m excited to hear feedback on it once youā€™ve had a chance to list and if you are able to post pics of it in itā€™s new home even better!

Yeah, i was at work and i saw he made a bunch of posts, some saying it only sold for X but was originally Y etc etc. I was going to read it later but it was all deleted. I think maybe he wanted it but thought it would stay around, then it sold and if he poopooed it the buyer may have resols or something. Its not worth diving into or spiking Nickā€™s blood pressure again.:anatomical_heart:

Guys, itā€™s real simple. The rules say, you should NOT ever shit on a ā€œfor saleā€ thread and absolutely never slander a manufacturer with NO hands on experience with a product. When you post opinions like that you are causing monetary damages and I was ready to contact Radu to allow him the decency to respond to the accusations.
All of this is inappropriate in a for sale thread, especially one that was preparing to close with a happy ending for all.

The individuals words were inflammatory opinions based on zero hands on experience and he was causing monetary damage to Mr Radu and our own @Souldriver was about to get stuck with an amplifier that he would have a very difficult time selling afterwards because the buyer, ME, was livid with anger.

I look forward to getting home and setting it up to play with soon. Iā€™ll post pictures and give impressions relative to other gear.

And they were misguided, better organized wiring is not better wiring especially in point 2 point devices which always tend to look a bit untidy.
Justinā€™s stuff at Amp and Sound is very tidy looking, but I think the way he goes about that is a part of the reason his amps commonly have higher noise floors than some of the competing options.

I look forwards to hearing your thoughts.
Might make a good ā€œarticleā€ since we havenā€™t posted a new one in a while. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was think about making one for the EC and maybe comparisons to the Shiney, and it just being 300B amps in general. Maybe Nick does one on the Shiney and i do an EC one.

Oh shitā€¦:flushed: there will be soooo many words forthcoming on this amplifier over the next few days and weeks. I had to jump through some hoops to get my hands on it, the timing was simply off for me, cost me a one-of-a-kind item and a bunch of other stuff, time, blood pressure spike, and money but yes, worth it. :pinched_fingers:

Iā€™ll even try some HPā€™s on it at some point :crazy_face:

Iā€™m telling you write a front page article :stuck_out_tongue:
It is a very pretty amp, and I think at the price it went for a great deal if itā€™s the sound your looking for.

I promise, iā€™ll take it seriously and put some time and effort into detailing my adventures w/ her. Sheā€™s a heavy beast, real pretty wood and pure DHT, 300B old school sound signature. Liquid gold here at first listen.

The traffic and pizza probably didnt help :face_in_clouds:

It also looks like it belongs in that spot.

Agreed!

Just dont get him started on build quality :hot_pepper::grimacing::hot_pepper::grimacing:

There are touches i love on the amp. The vented tube sockets i absolutely adore, and the connectors on the back are premium. Switches and knobs are all sturdy. And no screws fell out during shipping or shakey sockets that cant be tightened up (cough EC cough). The price was getting so low it was going to be just as good to buy and part out. A real steal.

Lampizator Baltic 3 and Radu Tarta Shiney Eyes amplifier exhibiting stupendous synergy. So much so that i did something i have never done before, I pulled the Vinnie Rossi out of the equation just to see if this incredible soundstage would change and no, it didnā€™t. Widest, deepest and most delicate performance I have experienced in this room to date. I am forcing myself to listen to entire albums, just so i donā€™t get annoyed getting up to adjust volume, some tracks make it feel as if I am on the stage w/ the musicians, the soundstage just enveloping me. There is also a particularly smooth presentation, no edges or sharp distinctions between instruments and voices that is working well with me. Excellent level of detail but it doesnā€™t ā€œfeelā€ like detail  Very nice. I look forward to more time w/ this piece.
Note, 2 channel set-up being used.

And he 100% told me I get first right of refusal if he sells it.

Give the 2.2pf a spin on it when you can. And if your not using the xlr is recommended to have its ground lifted.

How is it working with the subs?

Absolutely no issues, no noise, no hiss, and yes the subs are on and no feedback or wackiness of any kind between pieces. Damned amplifier is so heavy though, so damned heavy, Iā€™m not walking this upstairs any time soon. :flushed:

Which 300b do you have on it?

Heavy, and the weight distribution is awkward.

I am looking forward to even more of your thoughts and of course that eventually article.

I am using Electro Harmonix tubes on it today. Yesterday i played w/ the Acmeā€™s. Both brands exhibited good weight, punch, clean midrange and a very nice smooth top end. Zero complaints w/ the few hours i have clocked on them thus far.

The Radu Tarta Shiny Eyes-end game DHT amp requires a warm up. Yep, gotta have it, w/ HPā€™s on there is an unpleasant harshness otherwise that grates on my nerves. (15-20 minutes seems to do the job) This unpleasantness is centered in the upper midrange frequencies and irks me similar to fingernails scraping across a chalkboard, (for anyone old enough to have ever experienced an asshole purposely doing that to irritate people back in school.)

Next, my REL subwoofers and their connection direct to the speaker taps continue to be an irksome issue, they need to have the ground lifted as directed in the instructions, to be connected to a balanced amplifier, otherwise an ugly ground loop noise occurs on the HP output of the amp. On a good note this can be rectified depending on the connection procedures used. This is user error but should be noted because otherwise an uniformed/uneducated user may spend several hours pulling pieces, disconnecting cables, swapping components, kicking the dog, cursing and generally being in a most foul mood trying to figure out WTF is going onšŸ¤¬

Time spent diagnosing and figuring out the quirks and eccentricityā€™s of a new tube based piece of equipment is important for the end user, pieces this large and delicate come w/ a stupid fee and it can be very expensive if you mess up. :face_with_peeking_eye:

I used Audeze LCD 2.1 HPā€™s last night and early this AM. @Souldriver per your request. It took me a while to settle on music to do this with and finally i went with a band called The Dead South (Folk-Bluegrass, country, strings). Also, due to the above mentioned issues figuring out proper connections/ integration w/ this amp and my equipment, my front end wound up being: PhoenixNet ethernet switch/clock > SoTM LPS > SOTM streamer > SOTM USB regen > Baltic 3 DAC > SPL Phonitor X pre-amp > Shiny Eyes > Audeze LCD 2.1 pfā€™s. All connected via simple Mogami gold XLRā€™s and using Wireworld silver electra and electra 7 power cords. (For what itā€™s worth) (Acme 300Bā€™s in amp, EML 274B mesh plate, NOS 1958 MELTZ 6sn7, and 1950ā€™s NOS Tungsgram Red label E80CC in DAC)

Vocals and midrange came at me well forward, accentuated and w/ a pleasant richness imbued in them. There is detail though and itā€™s not soft or ā€œgooeyā€, there is more detail than I am used to in this HP, is it extended decay i am hearing? :man_shrugging: I can distinguish each and every pluck of the strings and the raspy nature of the lead singers voice is at the extreme of what i find comfortable but the sibilant ā€œSSSā€™sā€ are tamed, just barely, but tamed enough to not be irksome. In live tracks i can hear the background noises of the audience distinctly and w/ detail. Next are the highs, and there is no lack of treble energy. Considering i always found the LCD2.1 ā€œlaid backā€ it felt extremely energized. :flushed: The quiet passages were the most beautiful to listen to, the accentuated richness in the midrange combined w/ the extremely black background and great space and separation really make for an experience well worth the full cost of admission. Lastly, the bass has a nice bloom to it that envelopes the overall presentation, it feels like it is hanging in the background like a halo around the overall presentation. Itā€™s a nice sensation, full feeling and filling the space around my head w/ its presence. The punch, when present in the music has grunt and i canā€™t complain or find fault w/ the low end.

There is a really good sense of space and separation, no noise or hiss and excellent blackness in the background that adds to the level of detail present in the music. Overall this combination of equipment is presenting extremely well. What i am truly excited about is the amount of raw power that seems present in this very large beast of an amplifier. Most of you probably canā€™t tell due to the pictures and possible lack of scale, but this is the 2nd largest amplifier i own, it dwarves everything but my Monoprice- Monolith 5 channel, 1000watt A/V amp. and it weighs in at a hefty 65lbs.

Very low listening is extremely dynamic and it took me a moment of care to adjust the volume correctly to prevent painful and possibly HP damaging excess in output when combining this amp w/ a pre-amp. I am very excited to try the amp w/ my HE6se, Autuer, HD800s and other HPā€™s. I donā€™t think I have anything else in the house that is a dedicated HP amp that can power planars w/ this much authority, ease and comfortable control :flushed:

Now that i properly understand how to integrate the amplifier w/ other equipment safely and correctly i look forward to trying it w/ different DACā€™s, w/ and w/out a pre-amp and even on my desktop if i ever manage to get it up to the second floor (itā€™s heavy and Iā€™m cautious w/ my back). I look forward to taking some notes and writing up an article based on my experiences.

This was the most convoluted (and stressful) deal i have made to date, trying to get this beast in my possession and i donā€™t plan on wasting the extra effort i put into this, iā€™m gonna put some words to paper and leave them on the internet for posterity. Iā€™m gonna e-mail Radu to verify my suspicions, but i think currently this is the only version of this amplifier he has built to date, i am pretty sure it is only one-of-one. The other version floating around is a physically lighter, less complex design w/ different components which to my good fortune was compared in cost at one point by many and allowed me to get a good deal from Souldriver, (The original owner truly lost his shirt on this  by not offering it up on Audiocircle and USAM to a more diverse audience) I made sure to compensate Souldriver well and i think i made the deal well worth his pleasure :+1: ( i hope you are enjoying those WE 300Bā€™s and the other goodies brother.:hugs:)

As i write this up i have moved on to my Audeze LCD 2.2 pfā€™s. Overall, the bass is a bit more delicate, in a good way, on these. A bit less bloom, barely perceptible unless you are doing a side by side i would assumeā€¦who knows maybe my ears are tired after 3 hrs of this and there is no difference between the 2 versions, i could be mistaken but i feel like i have felt the same distinction before between the 2 HPā€™s. :man_shrugging:

Iā€™m gonna enjoy the day and look forward to my new BMR towers arriving sometime later. ugh, Iā€™m gonna have to put together a whole different set-up to play w/ those and figure out where to stash some of these other speakersā€¦lolā€¦i love my life.
